Whatever happened to 'a cop is never off-duty'?! @ten96lt I hate to break it to you, but your income has nothing to do with it. It's SUPPOSED to be based on the severity of the alleged crime and criminal history. The purpose of bond is to assure your appearance in court not your detention in jail. However, if this were true why, if someone has made all of their court appearances and the state upgrades a misdemeanor to a felony, does the bond amount increase? Because the state is broke! I don't think you live in Chicago, or Illinios.

The point of bond is not to punish. It's against the constitution. The point of bond is to put up something to make sure you will show up to court. The judge based it on his flight risk and income. If you have a flight risk that's high, you probably wont get bond. If you're poor and a low flight risk, the bond will be lower. Bond is not based on the crime (against the constitution), its based on how much you make and flight risk to make sure you show up at court.
