joni was the best...joan baez, judy collins, carly simon, carol king..those cow werent in joni's league..plus joanie could suck the chrome off a bumper...i was fortunate to get a hum job from her back in her prime
That is a great live version of this song. I thought it was going to be one of her experimental variations, until it kicked into high gear.... I didn't appreciate Joni Mitchell when I was younger, but now I believe her to be one of the absolute top singers and song writers in music history. My wife and I play some Joni Mitchell in our duo and even though the bar was packed with youth, it was the Joni Mitchell that they loved and appreciated the most. See? Kids do know great music! What chirp?
To me this sounds fine. I don't hear the chirp. Too many loud boom-boom noises too close to my ears when I was young and dumb and full of...uhh, mischief...yeah, that's it.
But we should all be aware that the compression algorithm used by YouTube does degrade sound quality noticeably, regardless of anything the uploader may do or not do.
I really wish this version of the song didn't have that really irritating sound in the background. It is one of my favorite performances of this song on youtube
Sittin' on my groceries. She is so awesome it's ridiculous "My brother bought a '57 Biscayne he put it in a ditch, he drank up all the rest that son of a bitch" Hilarious. The woman of my dreams.
Robbie Robertson played on the original version of this song on Court and Spark.Saw a doc about the Toronto music scene in the 60's,with Neil Young,Gordon Lightfoot,The Hawks[soon to be The Band,}-all guys except for this beautiful prairie angel. She must have fought them off with a stick.
@bubbles9816 I always thought that Jaco Pastorius played with Joni Mitchell on Miles Of Isles but I investigated it further and I was surprised to see that it was in fact, Max Bennett.
Oh my, I remember those days! I was 15 years old, and worshiped Joni Mitchell like she was the goddess made flesh! Court and Spark was so fantastic. Then came Hissing of Summer Lawns and Hejira, neither of which rocked at *all*, and I lost interest.
Ahh, musicians, who knows WTF to think about them, or what they'll do next.
People usually forget about where these musicians came from; Joni with the L A Express, Rondstadt and Jackson browne with the Eagles, etc. Thanks for sharing this great video!
Do you mean Joni gained visibility through her collaboration with LA Express, or vice-versa? Joni had already released five albums by this point, including Blue.
i love this song. i mean really, joni mitchell. sitting in the lunge at the empire hotel? you are the genius of the english language and i have had a crush on you since high school.
I had the pleasure of playing this song with a great trio of beautiful classmates in a simple talent show at the high school I attended in Chicago. Wow....great voices great acoustics.........please ask me more!!!!!!
@fedinvest1530 I believe that you are correct. This song first appeared on Court and Spark, which, in my opinion, is Joni Mitchell's best album ever. I love every song off of it!
Let's try this again...failed the first time. This looks a lot like the gig I saw Joni do in Anaheim in March 1974. Roger Kellaway was on keys, but Joe Samples was the LA Express's normal keyboardist, so I thought Kellaway only did a few dates...could be wrong. This doesn't look like Old Grey Whistle Tests I've seen before. I have photos I took at the concert on Flickr...keyword search ultomatt
I saw her at Wembley Stadium in London the same year, - the bill included The Band and CSNY, What a day that was. Nice guitar solo from a very youthful Robben Ford!
ckovertime, if you have any more vid's of Joni with her great band PLEASE share. Not sure if we will ever see an artist of her caliber again...singer, song writer, musician, painter, what a treat. Not to mention a stellar band!!

Of all of JM's backup bands, I think Tom Scott did the best job of reminding the guys they were backing up a singer.
