  • joni was the best...joan baez, judy collins, carly simon, carol king..those cow werent in joni's league..plus joanie could suck the chrome off a bumper...i was fortunate to get a hum job from her back in her prime

  • Brilliant, hilarious lyrics.

  • the 1 dislike is from contemporary music

  • court and spark was the best version! they were rushing it that time, probly wanted to go back stage and smoke cigarettes with jeffsdolphin

  • court and spark was the best version!

  • The studio version WAS up some time ago...I love this version & thanks for posting...the chirps R annoying!

  • Of all of JM's backup bands, I think Tom Scott did the best job of reminding the guys they were backing up a singer.

  • That is a great live version of this song. I thought it was going to be one of her experimental variations, until it kicked into high gear.... I didn't appreciate Joni Mitchell when I was younger, but now I believe her to be one of the absolute top singers and song writers in music history. My wife and I play some Joni Mitchell in our duo and even though the bar was packed with youth, it was the Joni Mitchell that they loved and appreciated the most. See? Kids do know great music! What chirp?

  • great post--this songs a favoutire of mine!

  • To me this sounds fine. I don't hear the chirp. Too many loud boom-boom noises too close to my ears when I was young and dumb and full of...uhh, mischief...yeah, that's it.

But we should all be aware that the compression algorithm used by YouTube does degrade sound quality noticeably, regardless of anything the uploader may do or not do.

  • Funky Bass, Smooth Sax awesome

  • What is that annoying chirping noise all through this video?

Someone please put up a better version of this great song!

  • @dtblack123 Sorry for that noise! This is what I have. I thought you would like to see it. That's all. Forgive me for posting it!

  • @ckovertime

Thank you for posting it. I just wish there was a chirp-less version available! I love Joni and this is one of my favourite songs from her.

  • @ckovertime Thanks for posting it!

  • @ckovertime pay them no mind...this is energy and JM in a rare comedic side. Worth every penny we paid to see it!

  • @dtblack123 Why don't YOU put up a better version? Otherwise shut yer row and be be grateful. Peasant!

  • @Simonc1952

Because I haven't got a version of it, you idiot. CHIRP CHIRP CHIRP CHIRP

I am not the only commenter who has noticed it. CHIRP CHIRP CHIRP CHIRP

If you don't notice it, then it is obviously YOU who has the low peasanty standards CHIRP CHIRP CHIRP CHIRP

  • That guitar player during the solo was doing the Marty McFly+rank end jam

  • What's this performance from, anyone know?

  • I really wish this version of the song didn't have that really irritating sound in the background. It is one of my favorite performances of this song on youtube

  • Saw many live performances "back in the day", wish i had seen Joni.

  • Sittin' on my groceries. She is so awesome it's ridiculous "My brother bought a '57 Biscayne he put it in a ditch, he drank up all the rest that son of a bitch" Hilarious. The woman of my dreams.

  • Robbie Robertson played on the original version of this song on Court and Spark.Saw a doc about the Toronto music scene in the 60's,with Neil Young,Gordon Lightfoot,The Hawks[soon to be The Band,}-all guys except for this beautiful prairie angel. She must have fought them off with a stick.

  • @oleole52

Great info - explains why i dig the guitar on the album version so much :-D

    *taps along to song*

  • @oleole52 Wow, I didn't know that. Thanks for the info!

  • Can Joni rock 'n' roll?

I said, CAN JONI ROCK 'N' ROLL?!?!

  • i wanna have breakfast and smoke cigarettes with joni mitchell.

  • London 1974

  • hey joni , why cant i find jaco?

    p

  • @bubbles9816 I always thought that Jaco Pastorius played with Joni Mitchell on Miles Of Isles but I investigated it further and I was surprised to see that it was in fact, Max Bennett.

  • Please put up some more court and spark stuff! I'm finding it hard to find, don't know why.

  • Oh my, I remember those days! I was 15 years old, and worshiped Joni Mitchell like she was the goddess made flesh! Court and Spark was so fantastic. Then came Hissing of Summer Lawns and Hejira, neither of which rocked at *all*, and I lost interest.

Ahh, musicians, who knows WTF to think about them, or what they'll do next.

  • 36 years later and the Leafs still suck!!

  • People usually forget about where these musicians came from; Joni with the L A Express, Rondstadt and Jackson browne with the Eagles, etc. Thanks for sharing this great video!

    Joni rocks.

  • Do you mean Joni gained visibility through her collaboration with LA Express, or vice-versa? Joni had already released five albums by this point, including Blue.

  • This song made me a big fan of Tom Scott!

  • Just So GOOD!

  • thank you so much.

i love this song. i mean really, joni mitchell. sitting in the lunge at the empire hotel? you are the genius of the english language and i have had a crush on you since high school.

    thanks again,

    Paul

  • I had the pleasure of playing this song with a great trio of beautiful classmates in a simple talent show at the high school I attended in Chicago. Wow....great voices great acoustics.........please ask me more!!!!!!

  • I like the sex

  • I like the sax.

  • yOU didn't dig that "chicken pickin' "??!

    Shame on you.

  • CANCION DE SU ALBUM COURT AND SPARK DE 1974. No.309 DE 1001 ALBUMES FAMOSOS

  • Crappy guitar solo.

  • nice version, different fron the one she did on the Shadows and Light tour (which is also a very good one)

  • You're right! I think the tempo is rushed.

  • Everytime I wanna cheer up this is the song I gotta play, Joni and Tom rock it!...send chill up my spine :)

  • i like free man in paris

  • would be wild if JM did some antic footwork during the song, like Chuck Berry's duckwalk.

  • Could be wrong, but I think this song first appeared on the album, 'Court and Spark.' I still thinks that's the best cut of this I've ever heard.

  • You would be right.

  • @fedinvest1530 I believe that you are correct. This song first appeared on Court and Spark, which, in my opinion, is Joni Mitchell's best album ever. I love every song off of it!

  • @fedinvest1530 you got it!

  • Let's try this again...failed the first time. This looks a lot like the gig I saw Joni do in Anaheim in March 1974. Roger Kellaway was on keys, but Joe Samples was the LA Express's normal keyboardist, so I thought Kellaway only did a few dates...could be wrong. This doesn't look like Old Grey Whistle Tests I've seen before. I have photos I took at the concert on Flickr...keyword search ultomatt

  • I once saw Rita Moreno do this song on, I think, the Ed Sullivan show Las Vegas style with dancers who lifted her

    in the air.

  • This song rocks.....still great!

  • would have loved to see her prance as she played. maybe chuck berry's duck walk!!!

  • skinny girl can get down when she wants to

  • This is my favourite "housework song" of all time!

  • I saw her on this tour in Durham,N.C. They really tore it up, but sadly sound a tad dated now.

  • I saw her at Wembley Stadium in London the same year, - the bill included The Band and CSNY, What a day that was. Nice guitar solo from a very youthful Robben Ford!

  • I think the album version is much much better. The original sounds classic, fresh and original. There's something missing here imho.

  • My most favorite Joni song ever!!!

  • Robben smokes

Tom Scott dances like your Dad

...and at 1:55 Joni utilises stilts to great theatrical effect.

  • so true dead funny was thinking the same ha ha

  • wish she'd do something rock-ish, like duckwalk or something.

  • skinny girl can rock when she want to!

  • I'd love to hear Tina Turner cover this......

  • Cool! A young Robben Ford on guitar.

  • ckovertime, if you have any more vid's of Joni with her great band PLEASE share. Not sure if we will ever see an artist of her caliber again...singer, song writer, musician, painter, what a treat. Not to mention a stellar band!!

  • wow. god, thank you. she is it.
