  • Oh thanks for uploading this. I so wish that other instruments will be adopted and integrated in indian music. Subramaniams work with the violin in this respect is just excellent!

  • Very Good..What an Artist..Superb...

  • This is so fresh and timeless...

    (sorry for the contradiction!)

  • its jalajaksha varnam in raag hamsadhwani.......

  • What kind of amp is he playing through?....His sound is full and rich, does he embellish with an effects??.... anyways, to me he is the most evolved violinist on the planet.

  • @COSMICBUM looks like a trace elliot TA200 accoustic (solid state) amp. I don't really know, but the green letters and size look like a trace elliot.

  • Great performance. Subramanian music is wondeful in Baraka sound track.

  • wow.. you are amazing. I still love the raag chaurukesi you performed the most though..in royal albert hall. <3

  • The other violinist is struggling..

  • @TheViolincrazy His violin was out of tune at the beginning.

  • Good show of Hamsadhwani Varnam....

  • serene music ... feel like i am being elevated on listening to it ..

  • this is just wonderful. can I get the music of L Shankar( panthuvarali raga) namely the Storm?

  • enthusiastic music!!!

    love from russia

  • I am a carnatic illiterate slowly getting into it.

    My 2 cents worth observation:

I think "Vathapi Ganapatim" can (has) been been played in Hamsadhvani. When I first heard a couple of lines - I was able to recall Vathapi.

Always liked L. Subs - the fusion boss.

Guys also check "Brova Barama" - I understand this is "bahudari" raaga.

  • Yes, "vAtApi gaNapatim" is in this raga. Congratulations, you're learning to recognise them!

  • you are bang on...it is hamsadhwani....but i am afraid it is not vathapi ganapathim

you came a long way in ID-ing the ragam

  • yes, Vatapi Ganapatim is in Hamsadwani. A lot of film songs are also composed in Hamsadwani. On the top of my head, a cpuple areare Tere Naina from Chandni Chowk (Hindi), 'Manmada Masam' from Parthale Paraavasam (Tamil)

  • This is so soothing. I dunno much about rags but this sounds beautiful

  • I agree with MuzikJunkyAES one month old comment. It is plain, simple and honest comment. Having heard top violinists of the West, I know what he means. A Western violinist, trained under a music based on harmony, will find it exceedingly difficult to perform intricate classical pattern of Indian music based on micro-tones. I hope my comment can resolve the controversy.

  • He puts any Western violinist to shame! Peace.

  • MuzikJunkyAES, he puts any western violinist to shame ? It's sad to know you "exhibit" "appreciation" of music, and yet at the same time you are so intollerant toward other forms of music.

  • You're completely wrong: I want Dr. L. to be mentioned in the same sentence as violinists such as Perlman, Heifetz, Shaham, and Bell, who only play Western classical music--but get much more respect. Peace.

  • MuzikJunkyAES, yes I agree with you here. But I think Dr. L. is not that that well known in the western musical world, otherwise I dont see why a genius like Dr. L. will not be appreciated. Also Dr. L. can play western music as well as Indian Classic. I have herad him myself.

  • And don't forget jazz! Peace.

  • don't worry MuzikJunkey, this chaky guy gets off on posting obnoxious, uninformed comments in lots of videos for some reason (self loathing I expect).

    he is a real dumbass.

    :-)

  • You clearly have no clue what you saying?

  • A new... Paganini!!!

  • And you know that! Peace.

  • Not sure whether the "supporting violinist" makes the performance better ... with his few tailing tones not exactly in tune ...

  • Hey Thats how its is played.. It adds beauty

  • If someone plays out of tune with an uncertain tone control, it never adds beauty. Hey.

  • i agree with u!! the 'support violinist' i think is his student whom he just asked to accompany for experience. because i dun feel he's doing the accompanying or supporting part properly.

  • This is the first time I see LS playing with a 'support' violinist - is this a new trend?

  • on this special day, the grace of the great master fell upon one of us whom dr l subramaniam was very fond of, and invited him to "support" him (dr l subramaniam). it was a very informal affair, but filled with good feelings of inspiration and grace.

  • Informal is so much more nicer - it is more intimate. I remember a very informal concert by LS at Indore way back in the 80s - it was in a small lecture hall in a college campus - it was astounding!!

  • you are right - informal is so much nicer, more intimate. in fact, at the temple of fine arts we do a lot of informal performances in effort to get our students and audiences more and more comfortable with the art of performance. it seemed one of the best ways to bring out the "devotion" and "spirit" in the aspiring performance student.

  • Does anyone know where this concert happened? thanks!

  • this took place at the consecration ceremony of our temple of fine arts new building in conjunction with our founder's birthday celebration in april 2008.

  • Thanks :-)

Is the Temple of Arts associated with the Annalakshmi restaurants? So this must be a new temple in Malaysia - is it in KL??

  • If I am not mistaken, Temple of fine arts is not a temple where they do "poojas" to cater for a mass crowd. It's a place where anyone can learn fine Indian arts. Annalaxmi restaurants are associated with it. They have built a new building at Brickfields. If you are in KL why don't you visit them.

  • sublime, as all his music. shanti.....

  • He just finished a mini concert here about 30 min ago. VERY impressive. Can certainly trance you out if you close your eyes. WOW!!

  • Wow, The violin is really just an extension of L. Subramaniams body! Seems it is not possible to make a wrong move. So lyrical!

Thanks for posting. I have yet to see him in concert!

  • He is a virtuoso in Western as well as Indian classical music. Fantastic sounds.

  • descendant of mother saraswati for sure!

  • he is the best violinist in the world.. thnks unkle ket for uploading this video...

  • He produces the most beautiful sound of any violinist on Earth.

  • Mind your language when on public forum. Its devine touch attached to carnatic music

  • yes, you are absolutely right on this.

  • Such bastards can't understand the divine values of Indian Music System.

  • Which is truly unfortunate because God will manifest in many forms and music is but one. However, one must be "settled" to some extent in the mind before they are able to recognize. Such descriptive words as those used above clearly, are not a sign of a settled mind nor do they show the respect this type of music deserves. I am afraid that it is not so much the fault Yuceturk, but a sign of the sad state of affairs we have found ourselves in as a whole.

  • relax, no need to call him a bastard. he complimented our music system, control yourself.
