Alan Arkin is a great actor and he did a great job in Little Miss Sunshine. Jennifer Hudson gave a very good performance in Dreamgirls, but I think Adriana Barraza should have won.

Actually, I believe that Rink Kikuchi was the best among the bunch, but Jennifer Hudson was also good in Dreamgirls because she had emotions in her singing

You're right--there are MANY factors that go into choosing an oscar winner besides performance. Kate Winslet's best performance was NOT "The Reader", but many felt it was finally her time, so she won this year. Jennifer Hudson WAS Florence Ballard/Effie White. She was voted off IDOL for not having the right stuff and not only found her niche` but shoved it right up Simon's ass!

Jennifer Hudson should not have won! It wasn't an Oscar worthy preformance, she is beautiful and talented, but in Dreamgirls all she did was sing her heart out. Now thats worthy of a grammy, not an Oscar. An Academy Award is mean't for actors and actress' which JH is not at all. She is a singer- and only one because of it. She didn't do any real acting, i dont think she can act at all!

I agree but the other nominees were bland and stale except for Cate Blanchett. Hudson was a crowd favorite like Marisa Tomei in '92. This movie should have been made 10 years ago with Queen Latifah as Effie and Halle Berry playing Deena.
