@Mooseracks they still use the same method but instead of people throwing them on deck they have these mechanical fishing poles that do the same thing.
I fish for Bluefin, Albacore, yellowfin and bigeye tuna. We start as soon as swordfish harpooning is over, which means when we catch our quota. We also rod and reel but I had no idea this is how it used to be done. It looks like great fun but maybe a little dangerous. Thanks for sharing
Beatiful footage. Just like the old timers talked about. I worked in the tuna seining industry for over 20 years and all they talked about was fishing the corner rack. When we spotted schools of tuna we always based the size of fish by 2 pole, 3 pole or 4 pole tuna. Thanks Surfratt
stolen from 'deep colour' video made years ago now by Inside fishing productions....Michael Fowlkes would be wrapped lol

NO offense to ANYONE, Do people still fish this way commercially... or is most tuna caught by hook (troll) or seine-net???
Just watching the no of fish being pulling in (tons) Looks to me as being a pretty good method of filling a quota
Cheers
