To all those naysayers out there. I have had 3 of the 65 watt versions of this and currently own 2 of the 212's. I have bought and sold these over the years. Sold one and got a Marshall... went back to the Crate. I bought a Fender Prosonic which I love, but still I cannot part with the Crate, and actually ended up pickin g up a second one. I can use this amp for anything from amping my V-Drums, playing my piano through it , and the yellow OD ch. 2 scooped is freaking unreal OD. Pure liquid dist!
Well, does this Crate GLX 212 120 watt guitar amplifer really suck? Like you can compare it to a Marshall. My friend has a marshall 230 watt amp, it has 6 effects, and this one has 16. Whats more expensive? 120 watts is more then enough to Play live. And It also depends how good your guitar sounds, the quality of the guitar and the pickups. Also how you set your settings. Clean= Mid-10 Tre-9 Bass- 5 or 6. Then give it a try
The Crate Flexwave 65 also sucks.Bought one new sent it back because it was shorting out. They gave me another new amp and a week later it to started shorting out.So now I have had the thing in the shop 3 times. They finaly put a whole new circuit board in the thing. Is there anyone else out there who has had troubles with a Flexwave 65?
man idk what you guys are talking about. i have a glx120 and have had it for going on 5 years. never failed me. the tone i get from it is untouchable. i gig with it all the time and it has never let me down. knock on wood.
@mrandyp Hey, I saw an ad for one and I was going to get it but I see all these bad reviews but I read one saying it was a fantastic amp, how good does it sound with only pre and post gain? I don't care about effects because I have a Boss me 25 for that. Right now I use the roland microcube which is the worst sounding amp on earth, it has no tone and destorys the quality of my me-25. So is this a great amp?
I dont know about this solid dtate amp here but I own a Crate "Vintage Club all tube 50 watt 212 with DSP" and it blows away any amp in its class with great tone and quality effects...
Billy Gibons uses one, as dose Malmsteen....
Its sound Quality is spectacular...
search up one of those.... this is not a pro amp model here... its a club gig amp..
It doesnt matter what Crate Amp you buy. They are all the same and they suck! There is always that crackling noise behind the effects and the tone sucks! I realize this is your beginner amp. But for the money, or a little more , the next time you buy... Stay away from these amps. They make you sound worse! Try a Vox tube.. A boogie 40 watt. which is really like an 80 watt. You may spend 400 or 500.00 but you wont ever be unhappy with your sound.
I have the half stack of this amp, and I've never had any kind of problem with it. It can sound a bit crappy, but if you play around with the knobs, you can get some cool tones.
yea my buddy has this amp he hates it too.. im picking up a dean ml 79 series reissue and im looking for a good amp for metal/rock with lots of gain and good grit any suggestions? probably looking for 100 -120 watt range
@Veranek not if you know how to work it. i got this baby last week. well actually it depends on what style you want out of it. like i want pure thrash metal with heavy ass distortion and thats exactly what i get out of it, but i do have to admit the effects are pretty fuckin retarded
My friend has that problem, with the smaller glx 65 watt amp. Basically he used duck tape to hold the knobs back because they would cut in and out like you said. Although this will limit your playability with the effects, I would see if you can get refunded with a warranty or go to a guitar shop to see how much they can replace it for. If everything else fails... Get a new amp!
i just bought that amp used and i like it but the im having problems with the effects going in and out on me and sometimes i cant get them to work at all.can you help?
I had this amp when I was younger, i loved it i dont know what everyones talkin about

This amp sucks. Sounds decent at lower volumes (below 2), but the tone completely falls apart to complete garbage at higher volumes. JUNK

everyone shut up. heres how it is.
people saying this is a great value are right. its a wonderful practice amp that gets really loud. ( 120 watt ) for a relatively low price.
"haters" are saying its entry level.
your both right, its good amp for someone who doesnt care if it isnt perfect, (entry level) and its a loud, well priced amp, for what it is.

Cons>>
Tone Quality = similar to a fart in the bath
Built in Effects = worse than a behringer V-amp 2 "& that is some doing" in other words absoloutly bollocks
Pro's
None really apart from its very cheap, can be used as a coffee table and comes with a footswitch...
Thanks Ive nothing else really to say about this hidious chunk of an ashtray
