I was picked on for years in high school, thanks to the show jackass I got into skateboarding which saved my life, saved me from doing somthing self destructive! Skateboarding as well as punk rock is a positive outlet for me, I embrace being deforent, not conforming to the system or authority! Most of the kids who picked on me were those jocks and ambercrombie wearing rich preppy kids! Thats anether reason I love skateboarding we are anti jock/prep!
I certainly hope something is done about it! I feel strongly about this issue bulling leads to suicide people should stand up to them. So many kids and teens die from this.
I've had my fair shear of trouble with other kids at school I've been spat on, called horrible names to my face and behind my back and pushed over, repeatedly its nuts. no one deserves to be hurt like this.

Yes so you said Glamindore. Sometimes it helps learning about the basis behind those that suffer with Narcissism. A complete lack of empathy and a desire to hurt and inflict suffering on others. Where as we as doctors and nurses, try and heal the suffering. As parents we try and get rid of all the bad traits, so the bad traits are not ingrained into their personality and we teach them to care about others. To build up their empathy skills. I think it's very important for students to communicate with their parents and for parents to take notice that something is worrying their child. If you were shy, it's a shame that parents didn't take notice on the emotional well being at the time.
Gamindore, teens do not have to be victims of bullying to learn empathy skills. Often victims of bullying can turn into being violent husbands and being violent towards others in society as they become adults. Teens should be condemning bullying, not encouraging it. Swearing is being condemned in most schools, yet swearing is becoming a normal culture amongst teens on the internet. I was a student who felt a need to do my work because my parents struggled to pay for my education. There were 2 girls in particular that always bugged me. One day I had it, and started to hit her, the other said, "you'll get in trouble." I said I don't care, and I reported them to the teacher, she said I should have done so earlier. After that, no more bullying.

I'd say it's more an issue of parents either turning the other way or as going so far as to condone their child's actions when they bully others. Learning self defense does no good when it's all verbal abuse. There's also the matter of when a person is being bullied by multiple people at once. Odds are if they try to fight back they'll get ganged up on.

@debi5058 The best way to put it, is a No tolerance policy, and ACTUALLY enforce it. My high school and middle school claimed to have it. I was bullied badly in middle school. Not so much in high school. I can't tell you how many times I saw the school just sit back and witness the bullying themselves, but NEVER actually do anything about it.
Years ago we had a new student in class. She was albino and classmates tormented her for months until she was afraid to come to school. Her parents complained. It was the PRINCIPAL who took action, came to the class and spent an hour giving a NO NONSENSE lecture not to bully. Someone laughed. He was sent home. This was serious. The albino girl returned and no one EVER made fun of her again. This was 1970 and I will never forget this principal. She was a LEADER.

The only solution to this problem is to teach all kids to defend themselves. Bullies do serve a positive purpose. They teach kids to toughen up, stand up for themselves, defend themselves, and how to deal w/tough people when they get adults.

The funny thing is...is that I have reconnected with a few of my bullies on facebook, and we all now laugh about how stupid we all were in the early 80s...but I never took it too seriously back then. I either learned to ignore it, or stand up to them. Through these adult connections, they shared why they bullied. Now we have kids commiting suicide and shooting classmates...things have got to change.
It is so sad that AFTER she commits suicide so many people come forward caring. Where were they before she died, when she was getting bullied? Did anyone care enough to stick up for her, or go to the authorities about it?

I certainly hope something is done about it! I feel strongly about this issue bulling leads to suicide people should stand up to them. So many kids and teens die from this.
I've had my fair shear of trouble with other kids at school I've been spat on, called horrible names to my face and behind my back and pushed over, repeatedly its nuts. no one deserves to be hurt like this.

Yes so you said Glamindore. Sometimes it helps learning about the basis behind those that suffer with Narcissism. A complete lack of empathy and a desire to hurt and inflict suffering on others. Where as we as doctors and nurses, try and heal the suffering. As parents we try and get rid of all the bad traits, so the bad traits are not ingrained into their personality and we teach them to care about others. To build up their empathy skills. Gamindore, teens do not have to be victims of bullying to learn empathy skills. Often victims of bullying can turn into being violent husbands and being violent towards others in society as they become adults. Teens should be condemning bullying, not encouraging it. Parents should be teaching and supervising their teens on the internet. It was never such an escalating problem as in my generation.

It's important to have empathy skills, that is to understand the pain that other's go through by being hurt and to be able to feel what they feel. People with empathy wouldn't hurt another person. I think that bullies are defined but not limited to doing the following things:
1) Make fun of who you are or attack you in front of people through comments, questions, or actions that are meant to humiliate
2) Tell people things about you true or untrue with the intention of destroying your reputation
3) Try to cover themselves up by telling you that they are "just joking"
People who do any of these are bullies. They deserve extreme torture. Each will go to prison or hell one day.

I was a student who felt a need to do my work because my parents struggled to pay for my education. There were 2 girls in particular that always bugged me. One day I had it, and started to hit her, the other said, "you'll get in trouble." I said I don't care, and I reported them to the teacher, she said I should have done so earlier. After that, no more bullying.

I'd say it's more an issue of parents either turning the other way or as going so far as to condone their child's actions when they bully others. Learning self defense does no good when it's all verbal abuse. There's also the matter of when a person is being bullied by multiple people at once. Odds are if they try to fight back they'll get ganged up on.

It was the PRINCIPAL who took action, came to the class and spent an hour giving a NO NONSENSE lecture not to bully. Someone laughed. He was sent home. This was serious. The albino girl returned and no one EVER made fun of her again. This was 1970 and I will never forget this principal. She was a LEADER.

it's easy for some people to say 'just ignore it'.. i've never been bullied myself, so I get how we may think it's easy to just go on your way and ignore it. but not everyone thinks the same way we do, not everyone has the same issues... this girl may have had a different logic. bottom line: just DONT bully.

i was bullied from 5th grade all the way up to 12th grade and i NEVER EVER thought of killing myself, i just fought back. people who commit suicide because of bullying already had underlining problems with them to begin with. insecurities brought to light. but you have to realize its just words and if your smart enough you will use words against them it works both ways, you bully a bully i promise you they will back down then you are finally left alone.

The funny thing is...is that I have reconnected with a few of my bullies on facebook, and we all now laugh about how stupid we all were in the early 80s...but I never took it too seriously back then. I either learned to ignore it, or stand up to them. Through these adult connections, they shared why they bullied. Now we have kids commiting suicide and shooting classmates...things have got to change.

Someone at my school a few years ago hung himself in the bathroom. We aren't sure exactly, but we think it's because he was bullied. People don't care.. which is so sad. But there time is coming, they'll get what they deserve.

I was bullied by the typical "mean girls" in junior high and now I'm in college, and those girls are meaningless to me. I grew up, made awesome friends and am enjoying my life....but back in junior high, I thought it was the end of my world...No, that's not how it has to be for anyone being bullied right now.
