Ura Nage simply means back throw or rear throw. The Tani Otoshi is an attack from the side. Though the execution in our technique is similar, a key principle of our technique is taking the back.
True, the literal translation of ura nage is "back/rear throw", so of course you have every right to make that name be associated with whatever technique you want. However, in judo, it means something very distinct and well-defined, and that is *not* what is done in this video. That was my only point. As for tani otoshi (again following the judo definition), there is nothing that says it's from the side. It can be entered into from many different ways. It is defined by how you take the uke down.
you wouldn't know what it is under realistic conditions; you are a starvin marvin who is afraid to make a video of himself because he'd lose his perceived greatness. little skinny black boy, stop harrasing shotokan karatekas and atheists/other religions alike
Wannabeebee, I actually find this technique very easy to get in street fight scenario training or MMA training. The street fight scenario training is basically giving a fellow student MMA gloves and telling them to beat the crap out of you and you defend with just good Ju-Jitsu. It works quite well in MMA. The reason being is that you can also do this off a punch. If an attacker is punching you, you can easily change your level, take their back and bring them to the ground.
Most definately a Tani-otoshi.

Nice techniques. But what about the methods of getting it in S/D eg a street fight?
Be nice to see it applied under realistic conditions.
