Me and you are kind of the opposite when it comes to Japanese. I find the speaking and listening a bit difficult (not too hard but a bit) and the reading and writing extremely easy. I think that's due to the fact I live in England and very few people where I live speak japanese so I can't really practice it. Keep up the great work!

I've done the JLTP myself last year, and I have some advise of my own.

The first one is know your self and know the test. It is not because your friends are taking a level that it means you should take it as well. I took the N3, because so did my friends. I took 60/60 in goi, 60/60 in choukai and.... 37 in reading. Its not cause I cant read neighter cause i fell asleep. Its because I forgot to fill the ansewrs paper! So id say its important to fill the paper. And to not fall asleep.

@BrilliantDream correct, all questions have multiple choice answers. But if you can read Japanese, doesn't that pretty much mean you can write it?

@okinawaskate reading and writing Japanese is totally different :o! I for one , can read more than 1000 kanjiwords, not every individual kanji but actual words, yet I can only write about 300 or 400. Reading is much easier than writing, maybe not for everyone but I have a hard time remembering how to write kanji and which kanji to write, but reading... not so difficult.

I took the JLPT level 2 and I failed. I think I know part of the reason for it though:

During the break before the grammar section I decided to go have lunch. I waited in line for nearly 40 minutes at Sukiya to get my food (stupid idea) and scarfed it down with my friend in about 5 minutes. We then ran back to the test site to write the remainder of the test. The food, plus the spice, plus the cold I had all worked together to make my nose run for that entire section. :(

I'm studying for the N4 now, which is the old level 3.

The new system goes like this:

N5 - Same as the old level 4

N4 - Same as the old level 3

N3 - New level between the old level 3 and level 2

N2 - The same as the old level 2

N1 - The same as the old level 1
