Gary, I finally got the two 540 Leslie's and it's a 705, not a 720. Hey, a cool cab anyway! It's got a 15'' facing down, but not into a drum- instead there is a 6x9'' rotosonic Leslie drum ( for those who don't know, the rotosonic's have the speaker revolving in the drum with the drum, as opposed to a stationary speaker facing into a drum w/ a baffle- the rotosonic's have a very rich tremulent tone very reminiscent of the theater tibia's w/ the tremulents on).
Love the song. Nice to hear it again. On the original sheet music it says, "The Prince of Wales Favourite Fox Trot". Well- just a tid-bit of information in case you're ever asked this on a quiz show.
I love your playing style. I have a Rialto II as well and I've learned a lot from you. I have a different version, though. Could you tell me what the five percussion thumb pistons on your organ are?
Hello and thanks for the compliment. The five pistons to the left of the black cancel button are generals. The five to the right are solo such as piano, glock, chimes, synth and chrys.
Very Nicly done. It was good to see a Rialto again. We had one years ago come in on trade. I spent some time on a Gulbranson 380X Equinox and had a blast. Great tone on both units. Thanks for the posting. Devin USA
Thanks. No I have not heard his arangement but I'll bet it is superb. I could only wish I had but a tenth of the talent that Mr. Peterson has but I don't. I have listened to the Oscar Peterson trio many times through the years as well as others such as Brubeck, Tjader and Strayhorn. I like to hear good jazz but I cannot play jazz myself.
another great station on live 365 is radio dismuke. the guy has a massive collection of 20's and 30's dance band music. he also claims to be mononomial.
This video and Bonedoctor's has inspired me to purchase an organ recently. (Lowery Holiday)I have viewed it at lesast 50 time in an effort to duplicate your playing. Not quite near enough. Is this your own arrangement or is music available for this piece.
The piece was composed in 1928 and recorded by many. (Notably Benny Goodman, Harry James, Ken Griffin) The arrangement is my own but I play it in the key of Bb which I believe is the key the piece was written in. The best way to get an idea of how to play a certain piece of music is to try to find some early recordings made close to the time the piece was new. I had an old 78 record of the song when I was a kid and I based my arrangement accordingly. Are you a student of the (orchestreal) organ?
Ref: If I had you. What a great song, and you play it so well. Thanks again for presenting it here. You really can't beat the "oldies" for bringing back memories.
Skip there is so much good music that is rarely heard or is rarely being played anymore. One of the very good things about the internet is that all kinds of music is available in so many places from Youtube to Live365. On Live365 you can hear popular music from the 1920s and 1930s as well as old time radio programs.
Nice song and good job of playing. I have the original recording of this on a 78 record by the Colonial Club Orch. A great internet radio station that plays music from the 1920's to the early 80's Is KRLI radio from Marshall Mo. They also announce the title, artist , and give a little history sometimes of the music. and artist. It is a real radio station not satelite. I am sure you will enljoy it.
Thank you. I once built four Sony FET phase shifters for my Thomas Palace 3. It never quite achieved the sound I wanted. Out to the curb it went. The virtual TPO is now what I play. I do like your playing. Post 'em all, everything you play and I'll 5 star them.
To all you Rialto owners. Anyone know if we are listening to the patented "space expander" on this model. This is a fascinating and effective way to achieve the multi-rank sound along with a theater spaciousness. A series of spinning tuning capacitors made this the best emulation of a real theatre pipe organ for its time.
No. The "Space Generator" you are refering to was built into the Leslie model 103 which was meant to be paired with a Leslie 102 connected to the Rialto K organ. I had one with two Leslie 103 cabinets and a 101 cobinet. I customised that organ considerably. The organ I am playing is a Rialto II. They incorporate an array of analoge phase shifters using I/Cs. Gary
Thanks for your kind compliment. I hoped to post more videos but I had a bad slip on the ice in my driveway over a month ago and hurt my right shoulder. I was practicing "Sleigh Ride" and hoped to record it without the harmony mistake that I made in the MP3 I have on Walnut Hill. My shoulder is a bit better now but unfortunately my mood isn't. I also thought I might post one using miditzer. Anyhow, when my spirit and mood improves I will try to make some more vids. Thanks again. Gary
Beautiful playing! I wish that I could play that well. But i can't. So I'm moving and am putting my Gulebransen Rialto up for sale. It's in Good condition. Anyone interested. Let me know. Lexington/Louisville area.
What a wonderful sound and your playing superb. I sold Gulbransens many years ago and when they came out with the drawbars the owner of the dealership told me try not to make it sound like a Hammond. They could but had so much more to offer as you demonstrated.
Thanks for sharing your beautiful Gulbransen Rialto II and your playing ability with us! I also am a Rialto II owner, though I cannot play nearly as well as you can. We have a common friend in "The Master" Gulbransen Technician, George. He helped resurrect my Rialto II after it sat unused for about 15 years. Keep up the good work and share some more playing with us!
