Fine playing no doubt, but I have yet to hear anyone better than Oistrakh (with Ormandy/Philadelphia) for sheer majesty & technical brilliance. And no-one who throws in a truly magical trill in harmonics as Oistrakh does (5:11) with Ormandy. (Never heard before or since). Oistrakh does try in a live performance (at 4:50) with Rozhdestvensky/Moscow PO, but fails to make it stick!

Neveu also takes this 3rd movement on the leisurely side. This is no polar bear dancing, just trotting to the shops!

@Oistrakhfollower I don't believe neveu is inferior to oistrakh in any way. they are both fantastic players, but very very different. tough call.

Ginette is one of the most stunning violinists of the past century let's not underestimate her..

Even though it's slow, every single note can be heard. It's clear,clean and unlike the other players(rushing pace), she has done a great job!!!

There are few talents that appear in a century that are truly great and she was one of them. It is mostly forgotten that she won the Wieniawski competition when she was 16 with Oistrakh in second place!

A late friend of mine actually played viola in the orchestra when she made this recording.He told me it was a typical heavy London fog that day.He thought she was absolutely fantastic,a wonderful player.

Onestamente la Neveu mi è sembrata più grande in altre interpretazioni che ho sentito, tipo la sonata di Debussy. Qui comunque non raggiunge le interpretazioni di Heifetz, Oistrach,Ferras,Vengerov. Grazie per averlo condiviso.

Trasnlation: Neveu sometimes has problems with intonation. She repeats an irregularity "regularly" as if it were a Mozartian componenet of her playing. In such way she imposes color on a phrase as well as on the entire peace. (She is) an remarkably romatnic witch.

this performance is absolutely sublime! it is maybe slower than what one is used to but don't forget it is allegro ma non tanto.

i also do think that it is a big deal and more so for the fact that she is not better remembered by the younger generations, albeit her hugely successful career she had when she was alive.
