Im in chch and as sad as it is we should be greatful its not on a scale like japan, but we should have been smart like them and had all of our buildings reinforced, i cant understand why they didnt. But i guess whats done is done and we just start again!

@nittyhooo So you say that I'm a dick for complaining about building safety and in another comment say that we should have been smart and reinforced our buildings? Aren't we making the exact same point? Shock is irrelevant, lives are not.

The best way to respect the dead and save billions of dollars in rebuilding is to expect the obvious and prepare for it. We ignored the warnings and now people are getting angry at the people who point it out. The people in the next 7.0, which will happen in NZ again within 3 years, will not thank you for being so willing to excuse incompetence.

@cheekyglamgurl The fact is, we get a >7 every three years, we don't know where, so EVERY city needs to be prepared for that. We have been lucky that they have been away from populated areas so far. People like you who run around saying that means that I'm some sort of mad psychic hippy are the reason that nobody built up to code in Chch. It states QUITE CLEARLY that ALL of NZ is at risk of a major quake every three years. Anybody who says "We never thought it would happen" is a moron.

@lemonandjack I don't think you quite understand, but Christchurch has never had a large earthquake before, in terms of earthquake strengthening priority we were low, if you don't believe me take a look at any graph or video of earthquakes over the past 10 years, you see none in Christchurch until the September fault ruptures.

The white bus at 1:04 was a bus that was made because of the money needed to repair Christchurch from thr 7.1 we had in September.....
