Dion wrote this and recorded it on an album. I actually like this version better, a little bouncier. Joey and the Continentals were a terrific dance band, extremely popular on the east side of Cleveland in the early Sixties. They were at their best doing the wild stuff like Devil With a Blue Dress On, You Can't Sit Down, and Jenny Jenny Jenny. But Joey also excelled at ballads. I always remember his You Belong To Me. He was great!
I picked up a trashed copy of this 45 in Mentor at a record store for a quarter.... didn't have a pasteover label unfortunately....my friend and i found the store by accident while he was going to an ATM and i saw it out of the corner of my eye while we were travelling.....a nice find for sure!
I can. I've been listening to Dion and the Belmonts for 40 years now. In fact, I'm not far from his old neighborhood in the Bronx, near Arthur Ave. Little Italy. But, this Joey guy is very similar. He's probably the closest to Dion's impersonators I've ever heard.
@gendres1 hey - excuse me - do you live there still? Is eli ave. near there? That's where my mom grew up. Should would have been 20 yrs old in 1955. She used to hang out with girls calling themselves the Eli Ave. Blockbusters...jus' wondering. thanks
Nice song!! When did they record this? I'm surprised that it didn't do better than it actually did in the charts..I have never heard of this song or group before, but I'm diggin this song..He really sounds like Dion..Amazing!!!! Thx PJ..
Joey and the Continentals were a Cleveland band that was very popular for almost a decade. They played the Torchlight in Mentor and all the other clubs frequently. They also became (under the names The GTOs, and later Montage) the house band for Upbeat, which was a Cleveland show similar to American Bandstand.
Wow! I'd not heard this since the late '7o's on the "Ronnie I Show", and thought at the time it was an amazing Dion soundalike. Didn't expect to find it on YouTube. Excellent, just excellent! Thanks a bunch!
I agree. It's not quite as good as the Dion version (you just CAN'T beat The Del-Satins), but it is a really good version. These guys really loved that Bronx sound. The flipside of this record is a song called Linda written by Ernie Maresca and Tommy Bogdany. They were prolific writers for Lou Cincetti of Cousins/West Side Records.
Ahhh, Del Satins...that's another story! Never been to the Bronx but have yet to find any music coming from there that I didn't like. You know, some more than others...but all in all the Bronx sound rules!!

Real nice version, it looks like they did paste something over the label. You can see the yellow from the komet records label.
ImperialSoulRolas 3 years ago
Yes, it's a paste over on the Komet label. The other side doesn't have the paste over. Good observation

great record, never heard of it.

It's not a common one. I don't see copies of this often. This is the only one I've seen with the paste over label
