  • These lyrics made me reflect on my recent divorce and helped me find a little peace. Sublime.

  • Good'n

  • great song ! thx for posting !

  • Great guitar riff

  • Sublime, just sublime. Those words, that voice, the guitar solo - perfection.

  • why o why isnt this man more well known

  • As a musician, this classic is a pure joy to play. The structures and melody compliment each other throughout the entire song from start to finish. Along with the lyrics, you can listen to this gem and never get sick of it. In my opinion, this is about as true perfection as one can get. Thank God there are not many songs like these, it makes you realise just how important song writers like Tom Rush are.

  • @VonTripps You're absolutely spot on. It's a great song to sing.

  • i said it loads of comments ago,and im gonna say it again..thats one of the best songs of all time..ever.

  • Sends haunting shivers up the spine, sheer poetry, fantastic classic. Thanks for posting.

  • @jollyjohnbull Agreed :)

  • They don't come much better than this. Classic.

'The thought's we you'st to share I now keep alone".

  • Truely Fantastic , Lyrically brilliant , Haunting Vocals , Thankyou for a Brilliant Post :)

  • Oh wow! I'd only heard Midge Ure's version - I'm guessing this is the original.

    Outstanding!

  • @zzGRENDELzz Tom Rush wrote and sang it in 1968. the Walker Brothers cover was 70s, 1976 I think. Midge Ure's version was 1982. One of those songs that will last.

  • wow,after all these years,it still sits me down,superb.

  • Sad, haunting song and extremely good. It's goosebumps time again.

  • I love this deeper redition - fuller than the earlier version......... Scott, you are still my fantasy lover after 40 years!

  • Wonder if Clarence would want to sit in on sax with John.

  • @ChrisDutch I didn't know that.

  • Scott Walker, a huge influence on David Bowie. This is a superb song, thanks.

  • Trivia time. One of the greatest songs of all time. This is the original studio version with the backing vocals done by a New Zealand girl - Suzanne Donaldson. She was one of a trio called Bones - all Kiwis which worked in London at that time.

The arrangement has stood the time test, Scott's voice is extraordinary.

Bones are to be heard on Neil Sedaka at the Albert Hall.

  • @3hillock6 Good knowledge my friend !

  • i said this before, thats one of the best songs ever penned,it would whatever thy circumstances bring a tear to a glass eye.

  • John is helaas niet meer, "The Walker Brothers" waren groots. "No Regrets" was zonder meer hun beste song.

  • thank you Mr Walker ,big song , big loss

  • Great group. In a strange way they set the stage for the Righteous Brothers and were actually more musically versed than the RB. Rest in peace, John, must be some sweet sounds up there now that we should keep our ears open for.

  • RIP John......Fantastic group

  • Such a beautiful track... No song better portrays the pain of love lost... RIP John...

  • the 10 dislikes must have rocks in their heads the greatest group to every come out of the U.S.A.

  • @ilovemusic19771

why be ethnocentric - the greATEST GROUP TO COME OUT OF THE WORLD...

  • greatest group every to come from U.S.A.

  • A heartbreaker.

  • 4:00 - 4:41 that guitar is so magical i love it

  • Comment removed

  • absolute masterpiece

  • don'tyou just love it

  • oh man such sweet stuff!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • got me through many haunted nights

  • @gingercatkez

    Got me throuh many years

  • Loved listening to this, such great memories, I saw the Walker Brothers in 1966 on a tour of the UK where they topped the bill over Engelbert Humperdinck, Jimi Hendrix - (can you believe that?) and Cat Stevens. Remember the night well, always made great songs and I love this version. Thanks for posting it.

  • That guitar is almost talking at the end - wonderful!!!

  • Heard this song on the radio one morning years ago and it took me a few years to find out who it was. Bought the greatist hits the minute I knew it was Scott Walker and have loved it ever since.

  • Recall Walker! Rights for state workers of Wisconsin!

  • Thrilling, chilling, heartbreakingly beautiful. Pour your tears out and disappear into the distant mist...

  • @toomuchrose On occasion a song reaches into the compartments of memory and tears the contents out. This is one of them.

  • @catster57 How true......So very,very good

  • G-d like or wot ?????

  • great

  • Listened to this over and over again for the last hour. What an amazing song!

  • WHAT A CLASSIC!

  • My tenth favourite song of time

  • can you imagine.... I was sleeping, and suddenly in my dream the song began with the starting notes, and words and rephraine, everything....."And it felt so strange " to lie half sleeping, half awake and listening to this epic sound , in the middle of nowhere- land , in a dream...I forgot this song totally .... until this afternoon...

    this is supernatural

  • what a sexy voice..love it...

  • Great track. Just brilliant.

  • Hasn't aged at all. Remember this from my days in London ...was it 1975 or 1976?

  • Hey Adriane Thanks for this, a beautiful song.

  • as good today as it was then...awesome

  • one of the best songs of all time.

  • @The12ozBucket have to agree with on that one

  • Being a Walker Brother must have been so damed painful for him. He lurched right over the edge somewhere along the line. They say there's a streak of madness in the genius; I think dear Scott has more than a streak! - amongst the brilliance of his compositions, is sheer nightmarish terror. Yep, he went mad!

  • what a voice, so clear, todays singer may want to try it. shit hot. and thanks

  • Still sends shivers down my spine ...

  • this was also recorded by Shirley Bassey

  • 8 people regret giving this the thumbs down.

  • This is what he could do. Now his looks are long gone and so is his talent. Poor man.

  • @FlorrieLindley The only person who warrants pity being directed at them is you for your proud display of idiocy and your all-too-apparent lack of any semblance of intelligence to enable you to grasp Scott's current work.

The very fact that you cite his fading good looks as something tragic only confirms that you are nothing more than a vacuous Hiltonian with the intellect of an amoeba. Poor you.

  • To hear Scott Walker turn this gorgeous Tom Rush song into such an exquisite country/pop ballad and then go off in the totally individual direction that he did....strange and beautiful!

  • The guitar at the end is singing too - awesome!!!

  • Scott Engel has the most incredible voice!

  • I had completely forgotten how powerful this is.

  • @shake20668 use Grabbit so much easier

  • Phenomenal Voices, Scott Walker, Mahalia Jackson, Elvis.. if we plebs only had an inckling into their world.

  • @pngaia - don't discard the voices of today.

  • @pngaia Tom Waits, Leadbelly, Charley Patton, Lou Reed, Billie Holiday, Screamin Jay hawkins, Mazzy Star, Mark E Smith etc, etc, etc

They are the Gods. We are less than shit.

  • @edmundsampo Indeed

  • Bijzonder goed nummer, eigenlijk nooit overtroffen.

  • I think Shirley Bassey did a cover of this timeless material

  • for everyone who loves this voice and style, listen to "the tindersticks ", you might just like it too.

  • Untouchable.

  • Fantastic. Though I have regrets about that awful electric guitar solo that ruins the ending. In the future, I'll do it differently. Yours, Scott.

  • Incredible track. Only sad that Scott Walker doesn't continue to sing songs of this quality. For those who loved this song Scott's last album, as good as it was, "The Drift," is nothing like this. Very dark. But most of you may already know that. I wish someone could verify who took the guitar solo. To my ears, and I'm guessing, I thought it could be The Strawbs' incredible guitarist Dave Lambert who plays like this often.

  • @lastrada52 Alan Parker played the solo in the studio recording. A then session guitarist who also played on Donovan's Hurdy Gurdy Man.

  • as good as midge ure's cover. without the twangy guitar.

  • Simply beautiful .. Makes me cry .. Says it all .. Love the production and screeching strat !

  • Brings a tear to my eye every time and I consider myself a grown man.

  • I awoke last night spoke to you fogot you were gone...............classic

  • phew.... I am here again still have cold tingles up and down my spine. Since I found Scott on You Tube I can't stop listeng to No Regrets

  • fantastic, as tigerboy says it is Spine Chilling. Just love Scot Walkers voice and brings back so many memories of a special lover.

  • I adore Scott Walkers voice - I have chills running up and down my spine. FANTASTIC. SO MANY MEMORIES FOR ME.

  • Walker Brothers was one of my favourit group in middle of 60`s.

No regrets.....thanks for posting this lovely song!

  • steve0

    Just listen to the song!!

  • T T

    What about CLASS!!!!

  • One Word....GREAT......

  • Any one know where I can obtain the words and verses?

  • Nobody ever seems to credit the rest of the band though. John's bv makes this song what it is IMO. Love it.

  • Been a fan for 40 years - wonderful voice whatever the song

  • At least make an effort with a video.

  • Walker Brothers , and not Scott Walker as titled although he does sing lead

I only clicked on to see if it was a solo rerecording and it wasnt

  • I'm taking this one with me when I go...

  • Bowie loves Scott ....as much as we do.

  • There were so many great bands/groups/singers around in the sixties, I don't think we appreciated how lucky we were. I must admit to taking all this for granted. But I would love to see these guys back together again. Their music was far ahead of it's time.

  • Awesome song ,as were most of Scott Walkers

    Thanks for sharing

  • This is my youth, my ups and downs, my time wasted, my time well spent. Girls I loved, girls I didn`t, this song says it all.

  • Beats all shit

  • XXXXX great song great singer love it

  • Well, well, well. Turns out that The Cocteau Twins and Scott Walker are both currently signed to the same label; 4AD. Someone over there has taste and common sense.

  • Jarvis Cocker must have studied these vocals night and day...

  • @MKUltra3 u fuckn deef like

  • @jonnylazer

don't think he's saying Jarvis is as good but he certainly has a similar delivery, nowhere near as good (vocally) as Scott. Jarvis would be 1st to admit that.

  • IC, I take your point

  • giant song.......fantastic

  • This is good, but like Tom Rush's version even better. There's a live performance of him doing this on YouTube - you might check it out. He wrote the song and gives it a little more feeling IMO. Not to take anything away from Scott's version.

  • It's a wonderful song no matter who covers it. I remember listening to it in the '70s. I liked Tom Rush's studio version better, sorry. Wish I could find it.

  • @erscott13

The studio version of Tom Rush is on youtube. Won't let me post the link here though.

  • Awesome. Hope I find it soon. Thanks for letting me know. Elisa

  • @erscott13

i've added it to my favourites if that helps any?

  • Thanks a million! I owe you one. Elisa

  • One of the best voices ever Scott Walker

  • @grahamhorton1 Great baritone voice!

  • Especially love it at 4:04 when the guitar solo rips in !

  • No! This is my song. The one that tore me apart just 15yrs ago. I made it back. Where thousands still live in denial..

  • This is a Tom Rush song

  • ref to an earlier comment..........your 'heartbreak when i think of what Scott could have achieved for the world of music'...................'COULD' have achieved??? You want MORE from him ?....Ha ha ha ha ha ...that's what he HATES...hasn't he given you riches enough?

  • Yep!!! Read em and weep!!!

  • I wish i could speak truths like this !

  • Listen to the words....A genius

  • You do know this was a cover song dont you?

  • excellent

  • GENIUS

  • Grifki - I don't know what you find wrong with the voice. This is effortless Scott still making the lyrics count. He relates so well to subjects like heartbreak! A bit like my heartbreak when I think of what Scott could have achieved for the world of music, with his superb voice and musicianship. I can't put it into words ..

  • Dit is pas muziek, zo maken ze dit tegenwoordig niet meer. Gewoon een perfect nummer.

  • Original... Getting there.

  • A great song and well performed

  • Wann'a Dance.................

  • A beautiful love song

  • One of their best....oooops sorry the best...great song...tu for posting it

  • holy crap.

is that a pedal steel I hear?

    Who produced this?

  • @AlyoshaKaramazov According to wikipedia, produced by Scott Walker and Geoff Calver

  • @AlyoshaKaramazov Yes it is - and about the only time that it adds to a song, rather than smothering it with schmultz!!!!!

  • Great song, very moving.

    Great harmonies.

The guitar solo is NOT a classic in my opinion pal.

Does not fit the song at all.

  • Of course its a classic solo, Gaylord. Its right up there with Baker Street. Now go back to listening to the Smufs.

  • Stunning Walker Brothers track....old Tom Rush song perfectly performed and covered with Class!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. Just love the move of pace from 4:01 onwards!!

  • spine chilling

  • favourite track of all time...

  • Sod the guitar solo (awesome though it is), appreceiate the bass work from 2:36 onwards

  • Ranks very highly in my all time best guitar solos

  • 'i've had nothing new to show to you', or 'i've had nothing new to shout to you'? what do you think?

  • I know you leave, it's too long overdue

For far too long I've had nothin' new to show to you

Goodbye dry eyes, I watched your plane fade off west of the moon

And it felt so strange to walk away alone

    classic

  • "to shout to you" IMO

  • First heard this in 72, loved it then, love it still now. Reminds me of my very first girlfriend , a honey called Wendy from Somerset, Thanks for the memories.

  • The greatest break-up song ever. Full of emotion.

  • Comment removed

  • I love this song, reminds me of my youth and all the girls I loved. I still do love them all but only in my memories now.

  • this recording makes me feel good!

  • Hvala Adrian,Vojvodina!!!!!

  • classic , dont make em like they used to . cheers

  • does anyone know the version performed by a heavy metal band some years ago?

  • You've made my day posting this.

    I love it.

  • Absolutely brilliant, thanks for posting

  • Midge Ure should have been prosecuted for daring to cover this song...

  • just brilliant thanks for posting

no body could sing like scott walker

  • when songs over 5 minutes were worth listening too - thanks

  • Love This Song!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Utterly brilliant, thanks for uploading it. It cuts me to pieces with emotion. My Wife is terminally ill.

  • Den, if this song brings to you what it brings to me, then I can only pray that it gives you some comfort. Respect

  • not much in way of visuals huh? wtf?

  • Fantastic wonderful song; makes me cry:(

  • Who plays the guitar at the end?

  • Scott's brother. Whose name escapes me at the moment.

  • After a bit of research I think it may be John Maus (AKA John Walker)???

  • That's the one!

  • He didn´t wrote it. It´s from Tom Rush. He only sang the song. And by the way, he´s still active. I saw him in november at the Barbican theatre in London, although not singing. Just producing and mixing the sound of his new songs that others sang (Damon Albarn, Jarvis C, and so on) Amazing show!!

  • One of my all time faves.Changes all the time between this and Bobby Darins Mack the Knife.

  • This is one of my favorite Walker Brothers numbers. Out of curiosity, I searched the web for info on their individual whereabouts. Seems John Maus and Gary Leeds both have remained active and even though Scott Engel cut a number of albums, he has remained reclusive. His newer stuff is very "different". I think he must be depressed. Anyone know what they are up to?

  • Hmmmm.......so who didnt pay the electricity bill?

  • Great song from 1976; he must have been in the depths of depression when he wrote it, judging by the lyrics!

  • lol he only sang it and didnt write it!

  • You're right. I just looked up the details on Wikipedia and confirmed that. Still, there's something about his voice that makes the song even more melancholic that I'm sure it was ever intended to be!
