to all those comparing regine and lea's talent,....LEA is a standard singer/vocal performer, acquired through rigid technical training, while REGINE's talent is rare, extra ordinary and original and definitely above standard. belting is an added factor, while most are singers, rare are belters. both has good vocal qualities, but watching and hearing regine makes everyone say "wow"
Everytime I hear People,I can't help but associate it to Nora Aunor, who owned this song. Aunor's immortalization as a screen legend has at time overshadows her greatness as a singer as well. Just appropriate that Regine, today's Superstar, is paying tribute to the Eternal Superstar, Nora Aunor.
Even if all you Regine fans say that Regine's version of People is better than Lea, I know in WORLD standard, Lea is still better than her. Pang videoke level lang ang rendition ng People ni Regine dito.

regine was not offered the lead role of kim because if you could remember, lea was supposedly not going to be allowed by the actor's equity to play kim in broadway because she was not a member of the equity... but macintosh used his power and had lea play kim... so just imagine if it was regine who was offered to play kim, imagine the mess, it would be worse than what hapened to lea being not allowed to play kim by the equity...

lea's version of people is better for me coz her voice sounds more pleasant to the ears. Regine's version is wonderful, too, but when it comes to voice quality, lea is on top over regine

Regine does not perform in SOP alone OK, come on! Yes Lea is talented and a great performer who made us all proud. Regine has done the same thing too when it comes to achievement. But I do beieve that in singing, Regine has a better way of doing it. Lea achieves such heights not because she sings well but its coupled with her talent in acting.

yes, it is not a chest tone. it's called a mixed or integrated tone using BOTH chest and head registers primarily. belting refers to the tightening of the belt region ie, the diaphragm in order to produce a bigger sound. I'd like you to try something for me, babycakes. try belting with just your chest tone successfully without using your other resonators. another thing, it would be such a thrill to see you stop hiding behind those big names.. it just illuminates your ignorance.
oh and try not to choke on your own voice when you belt by just using your method. i wouldn't want a fellow Filipino to die trying to master it that way.
So what if belting is not purely a chest voice? It requires technique & vocal skills to excel at it. Le Grand actually said that he has two favorite singers, Regine & Barbra. He didn't rank either one of them. As far as popularity, they are not on the same level, but singing-wise, Regine can outsing Barbra any time. i just listened to lea's and regine's versions of "papa can you hear me" and "someone to watch over me" and i should say that lea sings it better... lea belts and reaches the high notes with so much more ease and in a way that is more pleasing to the ears, unlike regine that i'd have to lower the volume of my headset cuz its really painful to the ears...

I've watched Lea's Broadway Concert and in the encore, Lea sang People with almost the same arrangement as this.I was surprised there because Lea hit the last note so high that she almost sounded like regine!I don't like it just as I hated hearing Regine's strained-sounding high belting.But to compare the 2, I'd go with Lea.Her voice is fuller and more lush which is right for the song

lea's version of people is better for me coz her voice sounds more pleasant to the ears. Regine's version is wonderful, too, but when it comes to voice quality, lea is on top over regine

reigne.... i dont personally hate regine and i have nothing against here.. she is my second fave (next to lea).. i just wanna say that my ears hurt when she screams... lea doesnt need to be defended... she's got all the talent to back her achievements.... cmon, dont just limit yourself to SOP... mura lang mag-browse dito sa youtube...

Regine does not perform in SOP alone OK, come on! Yes Lea is talented and a great performer who made us all proud. Regine has done the same thing too when it comes to achievement. But I do beieve that in singing, Regine has a better way of doing it. Lea achieves such heights not because she sings well but its coupled with her talent in acting.

especially from two die hard fans of each (im trying not to be biased here).. belting is not a chest tone, by the way. what gets me here is that you said regine is le grand's second favorite to barbara? i don't think she is even in the same ballpark as her.. which brings me to a point. note that regine's mic settings have very high treble when she sings. if you think you know what you're talking about regarding to singing, you'll know how that will affect the sound when regine "BELTS".

yes, it is not a chest tone. it's called a mixed or integrated tone using BOTH chest and head registers primarily. belting refers to the tightening of the belt region ie, the diaphragm in order to produce a bigger sound. I'd like you to try something for me, babycakes. try belting with just your chest tone successfully without using your other resonators. another thing, it would be such a thrill to see you stop hiding behind those big names.. it just illuminates your ignorance.

So what if belting is not purely a chest voice? It requires technique & vocal skills to excel at it. Le Grand actually said that he has two favorite singers, Regine & Barbra. He didn't rank either one of them. As far as popularity, they are not on the same level, but singing-wise, Regine can outsing Barbra any time. Each singer have their preferred mic settings fit for their voice type. So what's your point?

why dont the two of you just shut up? i mean, it's obvious that neither of you will give just from your nick names alone. voice placement is very individualistic because of one's natural range. lea salonga can "belt" if that's what you call it, but there have been other kim's in miss saigon who are equally talented. regine is a filipino favorite while lea has attained international recognition so coparing would be a waste of time because they are not on equal ground..

i just listened to lea's and regine's versions of "papa can you hear me" and "someone to watch over me" and i should say that lea sings it better... lea belts and reaches the high notes with so much more ease and in a way that is more pleasing to the ears, unlike regine that i'd have to lower the volume of my headset cuz its really painful to the ears...

actlly dear, it's jst a mtr of prfrns n whre ech f us s cmin' frm. n sir, i thnk u dn't seem to undrstnd the STRICT sense of BELTING, Lea didn't belt in Papa Can You Hear Me coz belting is what regine's doin w'c for you is not pleasant. belting uses FULL CHEST VOICE in w/c lea is weak. as to someone to wtch over me, well i love regine's better since she gave it a new flavor esp. the duet version, very jazzy :D I'd love to see Lea BELT A PIECE OF SKY, now we'll see if she's belting.

woah! actually PAGTITILI is one of the stupidest remark against Regine I've encountered here in utube. . ever. it's the REAL BELTING not Lea's just reachin' the high note in headtone, not FULL CHEST VOICE coz hers is weak. yeah both Regine and Leag worked with these two music experts, for Mackintosh, it's Lea (coz it's broadway) for Le Grande(who has done great pieces for BORADWAY and Streisand), Rv is a perfectionist and his 2nd fave after Streisand, any prob?

i love both,lea was already rich when she started, reg had nothing but her voice and family, reg's fans felt reg's triumph, her hardwork for her family...lea represented filipinos thru broadway musical, but reg fans loved regine not just bcoz of her music, but becoz we can relate to her,she is giving back all that she received to people who are in need now, thats why we love her we'l fight for her, lea is lucky.

I've watched Lea's Broadway Concert and in the encore, Lea sang People with almost the same arrangement as this.I was surprised there because Lea hit the last note so high that she almost sounded like regine!I don't like it just as I hated hearing Regine's strained-sounding high belting.But to compare the 2, I'd go with Lea.Her voice is fuller and more lush which is right for the song

I'm sure Lea could sing People wonderfully in her own way. But I really doubt you telling us that she hit the same note that Regine hit on this one. Lea can hit some high notes in chest, but not as high as this one that Regine did. Although I have heard Lea sing soprano impressively in Pie Jesu, headtone of course.

I've already listened to 'em dear. As expected, she sang it very Lea Salonga *melodious & subtle* not "like" Regine. Lea turned it into mellow ballad and Regine renders 'em as POWER BALLADS req. VOCAL POWER & Magnitude. peace out.
