Ha, I've had this happen to me before. It really is uncomfortable. >_<
I think the criticism you've had is completely unjustified and telling of our overly sensitive, box-ticking, label-loving generation; people seem to forget there's a subculture/fetish that actually pursues straight guys. Whether that was the case or not (he might have just been persistent and stupid), you're entitled to want to remove yourself from an uncomfortable situation. The homophobe brigade can just STFU. <3 n_n
And all the 'come out of the closet' comments: Please, get over yourself. I'm gay, and i'm not heterophobic, but it makes me feel really uncomfortable when girls, who can't take no for an answer, flirt with me.
Hmm ok this is how i see it's that that complicated...alex is not homophobic or was he rude at all. Some of you say he would of acted different if it was a girl who was presistent, um of course!, cause it was a girl! Now having someone that is of different orintation then yourself and of the same sex hit on you will fill not normal...for you, im i right? He handled it fine lol......P.S. People who can't take no for an answer are anoying.
As a gay guy who find you very attractive I can honest say that guy was being a jerk. He should have given you some space when you said you weren't gay. I think you handled it perfectly Alex. Oh yea I almost forgot to say nice shirt.
You guys are taking this the wrong way I think. He even said he had gay friends so obviously he doesn't feel unconfortable around all homosexuals. Just the ones who hit on him. Even when someone of the opposite sex comes and hits on the average person, they are (this is just my view) 60% nervous, 35% flirty and 5% unconfortable. AT LEAST. I just think you all who have suggested other than this should watch the video again and listen to what he says.
im glad you dealt with the situation in such a nice way much better than many other but still i have 2 say i dnt blame the guy for trying i mean u r soooooo cute XD
HAHAHAHAHAHAHHA Omg I cracked up cause my friend (who's a girl) tends to be approached by a soo many lesbians! She freaks out by how many cause she goes like : Do I look like a person that could be lesbian?!? Hahaha (I'm not judging I swear!)
AARGH INTERNET IS SRS BISNSS. Alex is completely justified in telling this story, he wasn't made uncomfortable about the guy because he was gay and nothing else. It's because Alex established that he isn't the same sexual orientation, yet the guy kept coming onto him, badly. And what happens when someone of a different orientation keeps coming onto you despite you making it clear you're not the right person to do so? That's right, you get uncomfortable. Not angry or sickened, just uncomfortable.
The thing people seem to be looking over is that he was uncomfortable because the guy was gay. He says it's because the guy was obnoxious and persistent, but if it were an obnoxious and persistent woman, he wouldn't have minded. It all comes down to the other male being a homosexual, thus making him uncomfortable.
Alex! Please Whatever you do, DO NOT TAKE DOWN THIS VIDEO!!! People are just stupid and overly sensitive. The whole point was to say that the guy was obnoxious and persistent and it didnt help that he was perpetuating a stereotype. Why is nobody asking why the gay guy just couldnt back off when he told him he was straight? Im gay and thought this was damn funny!
This interaction is COMPLETELY harmless, and the pick-up isn't even funny at all. Everyone knows hilarious pick-up stories, gay or straight, and this is simply not one of them. Unfunny. Not only is he obviously homophobic, he is acting out his male privilege so overtly it's unsettling. Every single day women get hit on by men who are not completely harmless like this friendly guy in this story and we don't laugh about it. The fact that he actually felt threatened is ridiculous.
I have friends who are exactly the same. Ask yourself haters, would you be uncomfortable with someone who's sexuality didn't agree with yours came up and persistently tried to get at you. You would be uncomfortable, right? I'm a gay man. If a woman came up to me and was persistently trying to get at me, I would react very similar to how he did. My friend is a lesbian. Men have tried to get at her in public. She's reacted almost exactly the same as this guy. calm the fuck down!
Omg y is everyone hating in this video! The guy did 365 awesome vids all year... he's a cool guy and I dong think he gay or homophobic. Every1 bitches n moans nowadays! Ur not that clever ppl!
The comments on this vid are pretty annoying, it isn't homophobic if someone is uncomfortable with another person hitting on them. Just et it go. I thought the video was really funny, good acting too :) I hope you continue making more videos Alex, you are one of my favourite youtubers and i love how you tell your stories.
My first clue that this guy is himself gay is the the multi-colored umbrella on top the Christmas tree, but his "dude" voice is a bit of a tip, as well. But almost everyone is missing the point of this clever video. Here is a gay man relating a story about a straight man encountering a gay man. He hides (tries to) the fact he is guy by saying, "I'm not homophobic...", but then he reveals at the end that the guy telling you this story is in fact the guy who hit on a straight man in a store!
It really isn't that offensive. If anything it has a similar concept to that can I have yo numba skit on Mad TV. Yeah there are different elements and stuff, but the idea of a persistent guy's unwanted...flirting? I guess...is the same.
okay, listen up. when somebody approaches u in an uncomfortable way. u need to learn how to ignore them and not open up any conversation at all!!! second of all no eye contact, cuz that will show the irritating person u care. lastly be a bitch next time and tell him he's not worth it, and to take a hike no matter how awful that person feels. then move on with ur life, see so simple right?
lol dude. You shouldn't have so responsive / nice... He had to have assumed you being nice meant you were at least mildly interested--otherwise why WERE you still responding? next time just walk away. lol
Funny, cute, wish I was you, lol. But think about this. How do you think I feel, as gay man, when I'm asked why I'm not married or don't have a girlfriend. They're often co-workers, patients, or people I barely know, but they seem to think it's a perfectly appropriate question to ask. They say I would make a girl happy or joke about setting me up with their daughter or some girl they know. They're not people I want to come out to in my line of work (nursing). Now THAT''S uncomfortable.
Funny, cute, wish I were you. lol. But think about how uncomfortable homosexual males, such as myself, feel when people ask them why they're not married or don't have a girlfriend. This happens to me a lot. Often it's co-workers or people who barely know me, but they still seem to think it's an appropriate question to ask. They jokingly say I would make a girl very happy and joke about setting me up with their daughter or a girl they know. THAT'S uncomfortable.
why didnt you just walk away sooner????????? uncomfortable? you entertained it.... what if a girl did it to u? He might not be giving up.. but you didnt walk away and went with it!!!!!!!

Think of all the lesbians who have had straight guys hit on them again and again and again and again.
If this is the most uncomfortable you've ever felt, I think you're well on your way to homophobia and maybe violent reaction (or a wide stance in an airport bathroom stall).
I'm gay and I didn't find this offensive at all. There's a way of coming onto someone that's actually NORMAL and respectful, and the guy clearly had a few screws loose. It was made obvious several times he wasn't interested and he kept bugging him anyway.
How is anyone offended by this? He's relating an amusing story about someone trying to pick him up that clearly couldn't take a hint that he wasn't interested. There is nothing homophobic or insensitive about this. People really need to lighten up and get a sense of humor. There are tons of videos out there poking fun at all types of people. If you are that thin skinned I recommend not using the internet and never if ever leaving your house. Gay male here, not even close to offended.
Unfortunately there are some guys like this out there who cannot take no for an answer. SO if this is is EXACTLY how it went down, then I commend you sir on how you handled the situation. BRAVO! (No sarcasm intended)
I just wonder how people would react if he'd said a black woman had hit on him and he's not into black women but he has tons of black women friends but he just wasn't attracted to them. And that black woman was just determined to hit on him. She was a stereotypical black woman.
As an attractive gay man I can tell you that I've been in that situation more times than I can count. Like, that exact scenario! lol It's not flattering. It's annoying. Whether it's a guy or a girl coming on to you, if you clearly are not interested that should be it; to go further and make someone uncomfortable is desperate and obnoxious.
As a gay man I don't understand why there are all these comments calling this video homophobic? He's relaying a story of what happened to him; he was clearly uncomfortable with the aggressiveness of this guy's approach, not the presence of a homosexual in close proximity. And he didn't call him out to his face, rather he walked away. Bravo to SoaroftheChoncords for being mature in handling the situation.
"I didn't want to be a jackass and insult the guy"...so you made a video instead.
Obviously this guy wasn't typical..gay or straight..
how 'bout taking this video down.. cause no matter how you slice it..it's homophobic, and it WILL comeback to haunt you someday.. maybe when you are interviewing for a job..or running for office.. remember it's usually the guys who protest to much
@maizielo Are you really? Are you seriously telling him to take this down? There is nothing in this video that is offensive. If it happened to me, from a straight girl, and I posted YouTube videos regularly, I would've done the same thing.
Stop using ellipsis. I will tell you that. It's really obnoxious.
Welcome to the club. Now you know how straight girls feel when men continue to agressively persue them even after they let them know they're not interested.
You are a stereotypical straight guy....Why didn't you walk away?.....curious that you stayed to talk to the "stereotypical gay guy"...oh, but then you couldn't have made an insulting stereotypical gay youtube video....I get it.
You said: "I have gay friends". Doubt that fact, otherwise you would have been flattered, smiled back and simply said "not at this time, but thank you".
Guys lol I doubt alex hate gay people - This is really funny, no it wouldn't be funny if it was a girl because Alex is into women and would hit back (unless she was ugly)
If alex was/is gay this would be a funny story if a women was hitting on him and he was saying he was gay. Its youtube, lighten up (just to the people who are extremely offended by it)
I give the video a 10+++++ This dude is so funny...but yeah I was a little uncomfortable with the storyline...I'm bi-sexual and have a major crush on soar! He just does it for me...so now I dont know if I can look at his video's the same...Probably a relief for him...but it sucks for me! He's still helluva funny and talented cant take that away from this guy...I'm surprised Hollywood hasnt picked him up yet!
Wow, thats funny. Im a bi chick myself so Im not against the gays at all, but that is DETERMINATION!!! lmao...well at least you didnt break his poor heart though?? Bout time you make another video too....been awhile..
Jesus christ some of you people are uptight. I'm a gay man myself and I didn't see anything homophobic at all about this video. Gay men - let me ask you this, wouldn't you feel uncomfortable if a chick started laying it on thick in a public area, wouldn't give up, and you have to awkwardly explain to her that you're gay? It's uncomfortable because it's uncomfortable. Simple as. Not because he's a homophobe. In any event, I too wish Alex was gay. Boyfriend material.
everyone saying that if this was a woman doing this he wouldnt mke a video...well if she made him uncomfortable and he made a video about a woman would everyone be making such a big deal? :S
In an increasingly equal society one should expect this king of situation to happen. He hit on you, you rejected him, game over. It's nothing to call home about. Also, if I were the one getting hit on I'd simply be flattered. It's a nice ego boost to be found attractive by someone, regardless their gender, isn't it?
When women hit on me, I smile, perhaps laugh or even generally engage them in friendly conversation and then I go my way. I do not decide that even the slightly persistent woman makes me feel "so uncomfortable." This is because I do not see straight women as an inherent threat whereas this guy clearly fears the big bad gay guy who is cruising him for his body!
The last point that I want to make is that the guy asked him for his phone number not to meet him in the bathroom! Cruising, really?
o cmon dude, its painfully obvious that you are gay yourself. at the very least you are insecure and hoping to prove your masculinity as well as your attractiveness by making this video. also, i wouldnt be surprised if it never happened...funny story though.
i commented on this earlier but can i just say...i'm gay and this video is hilarious. i love your videos alex. anyone who is offended by this is pretty uptight.
First of all. This. Probably. Never. Happened. Next, if it did, so what? You're kind of cute. You look like the nice, compact, slightly feminine bottom that I like to fuck the snot out of. In your case I'd need a gag for you. I have a feeling you never shut the fuck up. Maybe my dirty underwear in your mouth.
So basically you had a 3-minute conversation with a fool in a store. And for that you had to make a Youtube video to breathlessly re-enact the encounter and announce that this made you more uncomfortable than anything else in your life.
This video is like something my 12-year old sister would do. All that is missing is an OMG. How about next time you just grow a pair, tell the idiot to back off, buy your shirt, and then get on with your day? It doesn't have to be such a big deal.
I was kind of peeved at you previously, but after seeing your "I am not this dumb (doorknob)" video, I would like to thank you for making me feel the most uncomfortable feeling I've ever felt. End scene. ;-)
@dali2194 I think the point is not the gender of who was hitting on him, but more that he wouldn't give up. It's the fact that alex wasn't interested and the guy kept going. I still feel like it would have been equally awkward had it been a straight woman whom alex wasn't interested in and she was throwing herself at him. know what i mean?
@dali2194 I would love to see his reply to your question! Even from his own reenactment, the "gay" guy was not threatening and seemingly kept a reasonable space but just like typical guy, he failed to get a clue.
Whats particularly curious is that the guy ultimately asked for his phone number and he has decided that he was being cruised.
@dali2194 I guess but i think it was more that after he told him he wasn't gay he continued trying to flirt :P if a woman did that he might have made a video too but a lot of women back off :)
yall need to SERIOUSLY calm down.. this guy isnt a homophobe.. im gay and this shit has happened to me one 2 many times. and it pisses me off. people just dont get the hint. all u queens need to calm down.
I don't know...you seem pretty gay to me. Besides, most straight guys wouldn't wear that watch. At the very least you are a pretty, metrosexual boy and for all intents & purposes that makes you gay...haha.
I guess he would have been very confortable living in a society where homosexuality is ilegal and gays are in the closet. I'm straight and have no simpathy for this insecure idiots who are unconfortable with people different than themselves.
@noeslomism Tolerating harassment =/= tolerating gay people dumbass. I'm gay and relentlessly hitting on people is RUDE, not a right. This guy is a total champ for not telling the guy to piss off.
@noeslomism I have no sympathy for anyone who can't spell the damn word.
Also, I'm gay, and I thought whoever was hitting on him, was taking it too far. So get off your high horse. He's allowed to be uncomfortable when someone clearly won't give up.
@noeslomism like I'm not gonna bash you or anything but he said he's not homophobic . I'm straight also and I have NOTHING agaisnt people who like something different. but hey that might make you uncomfortable if you're trying to get someone to notice you aren't into them .
@dali2194 there probably would be a video on this if she was determined and he really wasn't interested .
@noeslomism yeaaaa ok, gay guys who obnoxiously hit on straight guys even though they KNOW they're straight are in the same category as cat-calling straight dudes who whistle at women as they walk down the straight. this category is called "Assholes". i'm gay, and guys such as the one alex described make even me uncomfortable.
just because you say you're not homophobic does not make it true. I'm pretty sure none of this really happened, and you're just making, what you think to be, a funny video for youtube, but it videos like these that are the reason so many kids are being bullied and killing themselves, your stereotype of gays is gross, and you should be ashamed of yourself.
Oh, man... could my fellow homo's who are ragging on him, please shut the hell up. If you would have wanted to hang out with someone who was that aggressive and socially awkward, that's certainly your business. But, "Jimmy" obviously has no concept of "no means no" and hanging out with him would have just escalated things. It was much better to cut and run -- and he put up with it a lot longer than I would have (and was about 20 times nicer than I would have been too).
Wow. Haha! This Video Had me Laghing! Alex, You Cane Be An Actor ! lol Well Funny Vid. Hahah And I Member you told us you dont like people up ur personal space. lol Lmao
wow but too bad the guy was so stereotypical. But hes a guy and guys dont take no for an answer so easily and you are not ony cute but you are entertaining to watch-- your discomfort probably added to that! What would the gay gay's version of this exhange be I wonder?
By the way I had something similar happened to me this past week-- the guy even asked me if I was "top or bottom or do you like face to face" eek LOL
LOL. Yeah, so I'm gay too, and I find this story quite funny! Personally I think you should have been a little more aggressive. Not in the physical sense but the verbal. Some people in our community are SUPER clueless, and don't know when to stop. STRAIGHT MEN ARE STRAIGHT! HAHAHA what are they really going to do for you in the long run? LMFAO! Merry Christmas dudeman! Thanks for the laugh!
LOL You were way too nice to the drunk poor slob feeling lonely during the Christmas holiday. Sometimes you just got to be cruel to be kind. LOL
Yes, you handled it well, but why feel uncomfortable (other than the persistent drunken attempt to get your number)? Just pity the poor guy and enjoy the flattery.
By the way, it has nothing to do with gay or straight. Pretend the person is a drunk teenage girl and the story is just as funny. Then again, if she were half way decent ... :-D Merry Xmas!
You may not be gay but you clearly have a lot of gay sex, purely based on your gay face and gay voice. Gay face is not yet scientific but it should be...
Oh please. I'm gay and if some guy was trying to pick me up like that I would've been out of there within the first 15 seconds. "I'm surrry." Lol. There are twinks out there who do act and talk like that; let's not deny it. Just like there are straight guys who are the stereotypical uber obnoxious 'straight dude'.
"I couldn't handle it." I think you deserve some sort of good citizen award for the way you handled it. Dignified and civil; the way we all should handle ourselves in public. As to the video...I now have the Christmas present I wished for. "Peace on earth, good will towards men." You certainly lived by that credo in this situation. Here's a little something extra in your stocking this year. Hmmmm. I seemed to have lost your address. C'est dommage mon ami. Bon Noel. G-day Cheers mate.
@eddiesocket Minstrelizing, an actual sociological term, can be when a 'normal' acts out the 'bad' or 'irregular' qualities of a deviant group to depict their clownish role in society. In this video, it would be the airy, feminine voice and the loose body language. Whether it was how the other man was 'acting' in this man's eyes is rather irrelevant considering this is not completely unlike doing black face.
So you can't hang out with a gay guy just because he's trying to get in your pants? Are you sure you're not homophobic? Seems just a LITTLE bit like you are, to me. No offense, Alex, but that's just my observation, and as a smart guy like you can appreciate, being observational is a good thing.
So if some random stranger aggressively and rudely hits on you, even after you've made it clear you're not interested, you would hang out with that person? Why? Don't you have any standards for the kind of people you hang out with?
@eddiesocket No, I give people second chances. Maybe that gay guy was shy and didn't know how to handle a social confrontation. Perhaps Alex was just witness to their first try. Haven't you ever been embarrassed to do something and when you push yourself to do it and you mess up, you just don't know how to stop? It's very common, so I dont think you should hold them accountable.
I would say it's quite uncommon for someone to act as the guy in this anecdote did. The odds of it being the first time he ever hit on someone are very low. At the very least, wouldn't you agree that it's hardly "homophobic" for Alex to not want to be friends with a stranger he met at the mall? What if Alex was a lesbian and she told a story about how a straight guy kept hitting on her over and over and asked for her number and email address? Would she be in the wrong to ignore him?
hahaha this was acted out very well...i also felt your discomfort! Alex, your the man your videos always make me laugh. Oh yeah, and have a Merry Christmas!
If only I had a better story to tell. (Not that anything could really top how funny this was. Not really funny to you because it's super awkward and stuff, but funny to anyone else who hears the story)
I love how "reenactment" version of yourself is way butcher than the narrator version.
You weren't being homophobic at all. I'm gay and I would've reacted the same way to some weirdo in the store. Except I would've walked away a lot faster!
I've never seen your videos before and while I found this mildly entertaining I thought it was interesting how, in your telling of the happening, you butched yourself up and you made the guy who was hitting on you extremely fem. Btw, you do fem very, very well. It's almost like it wasn't very hard for you at all. Like it came naturally to you. I've know quite a few guys who had gay friends and used to hang out at gay bars & would pretend upset if they were cruised. Not cruised? What up?!?!
The most uncomfortable situation I was in involved a drunk man late at night... and he wasn't asking for numbers, noooo, he skipped right over that part and went straight to mr. gropey. In the end I blocked his very forward gestures with ninja-like movements (think karate kid wax on, wax off) and escaped un-touched by his vile drunken-man-hands! I can only thank Mr. Miyagi for such an outcome xD
This is hilarious, Alex. I know a lot of straight guys that this has happened too and a lot of gay guys who think they can just 'turn' other guys by being persistent.
you know i found you a while back and subscribed immediately!! but sadly that is when you disappeared :/ not cool! im so glad ur back!!! dnt go away again... ur hilarious!! love ur videos!!!
Super hilarious!!! YOu are awesome, man!

Now THAT''S uncomfortable.
dkguy97 1 year ago
Funny, cute, wish I were you. lol. But think about how uncomfortable homosexual males, such as myself, feel when people ask them why they're not married or don't have a girlfriend. This happens to me a lot. Often it's co-workers or people who barely know me, but they still seem to think it's an appropriate question to ask. They jokingly say I would make a girl very happy and joke about setting me up with their daughter or a girl they know. THAT'S uncomfortable.

Think of all the lesbians who have had straight guys hit on them again and again and again and again.
If this is the most uncomfortable you've ever felt, I think you're well on your way to homophobia and maybe violent reaction (or a wide stance in an airport bathroom stall).
CanTake8 1 year ago

Bwayboy88 1 year ago
"I didn't want to be a jackass and insult the guy"...so you made a video instead.
Obviously this guy wasn't typical..gay or straight..
how 'bout taking this video down.. cause no matter how you slice it..it's homophobic, and it WILL comeback to haunt you someday.. maybe when you are interviewing for a job..or running for office.. remember it's usually the guys who protest to much
maizielo 1 year ago
@maizielo Are you really? Are you seriously telling him to take this down? There is nothing in this video that is offensive. If it happened to me, from a straight girl, and I posted YouTube videos regularly, I would've done the same thing.

Jesus christ some of you people are uptight. I'm a gay man myself and I didn't see anything homophobic at all about this video.

Mmazrocks13 1 year ago
In an increasingly equal society one should expect this king of situation to happen. He hit on you, you rejected him, game over. It's nothing to call home about. Also, if I were the one getting hit on I'd simply be flattered. It's a nice ego boost to be found attractive by someone, regardless their gender, isn't it?
aeziir 1 year ago
When women hit on me, I smile, perhaps laugh or even generally engage them in friendly conversation and then I go my way. I do not decide that even the slightly persistent woman makes me feel "so uncomfortable." This is because I do not see straight women as an inherent threat whereas this guy clearly fears the big bad gay guy who is cruising him for his body!
The last point that I want to make is that the guy asked him for his phone number not to meet him in the bathroom! Cruising, really?
rksu747 1 year ago

So basically you had a 3-minute conversation with a fool in a store. And for that you had to make a Youtube video to breathlessly re-enact the encounter and announce that this made you more uncomfortable than anything else in your life.
This video is like something my 12-year old sister would do. All that is missing is an OMG. How about next time you just grow a pair, tell the idiot to back off, buy your shirt, and then get on with your day? It doesn't have to be such a big deal.

Wow! You actually remembered every single word in your conversation with this idiot (no judgment on his sexual orientation).
I appreciate that you haven't used vulgar and demeaning language in your comments about homosexual people.
However, I'm curious to know how you would have reacted if this person was a straight woman. Would there be a youtube video on this?
dali2194 1 year ago 36
@dali2194 I think the point is not the gender of who was hitting on him, but more that he wouldn't give up. It's the fact that alex wasn't interested and the guy kept going. I still feel like it would have been equally awkward had it been a straight woman whom alex wasn't interested in and she was throwing herself at him. know what i mean?
either way, i find it hilarious.
aeoptional 1 year ago
@dali2194 I would love to see his reply to your question! Even from his own reenactment, the "gay" guy was not threatening and seemingly kept a reasonable space but just like typical guy, he failed to get a clue.
Whats particularly curious is that the guy ultimately asked for his phone number and he has decided that he was being cruised.
rksu747 1 year ago

just because you say you're not homophobic does not make it true. Oh, man... could my fellow homo's who are ragging on him, please shut the hell up. If you would have wanted to hang out with someone who was that aggressive and socially awkward, that's certainly your business. But, "Jimmy" obviously has no concept of "no means no" and hanging out with him would have just escalated things.

No offense, Alex, but that's just my observation, and as a smart guy like you can appreciate, being observational is a good thing.
jjaapp18 1 year ago
@jjaapp18
So if some random stranger aggressively and rudely hits on you, even after you've made it clear you're not interested, you would hang out with that person? Why? Don't you have any standards for the kind of people you hang out with?
eddiesocket 1 year ago
@eddiesocket No, I give people second chances. Maybe that gay guy was shy and didn't know how to handle a social confrontation. Perhaps Alex was just witness to their first try. Haven't you ever been embarrassed to do something and when you push yourself to do it and you mess up, you just don't know how to stop? It's very common, so I dont think you should hold them accountable.
jjaapp18 1 year ago
@jjaapp18
