A) This is an odd variation of the Axe Kick hitting with the ball of the foot rather than the heel.
B) For everyone saying how they would counter it: yes, it can be countered. So can every other strike; there is always some way to counter it and render it useless. But from the starting position of this kick (bringing the knee up) I can think of (off the top of my head) five different kicks (ignoring angle variations) that it could turn into, which makes it far harder to know which is coming.
@TheOverfiendDj Only if they're backwoods inbred cracker fucks. I've taken one of these to the shoulder, full force and countered it with a leg sweep after grabbing the leg above the knee and applying force. This is one of the MANY street useless Tae Kwon Do moves, it just looks flashy.
@SmartMiroku Oh wow arent you a true ninja lmao if you knew anything you would know that any technique isnt very useful unless you time it correctly.Mr True Ninja warrior.
@TheOverfiendDj The timing. Ha. ANYTHING could be effective with timing, but the only timing the axe kick is even worth the energy it takes to perform is after your opponent is on the ground and you are aiming for the side of their head. I'm far from being a ninja, but I know enough physics and martial arts to be an effective fighter.
@KeatonKB I have to agree it feels weak. I'd rather strike the knee and possibly shatter it then expose all that down there just to possibly shatter their clavicle or nose, when I could easily do it with my hand.
@KeatonKB its called training i can do an axe kick just fine off front or back leg saying this kick cant be done due to tightness in your hamstring is like say marathons cant be done because it takes so much energy
@KeatonKB sorry it just seemed like someone trying to draw a masterpeice with no experiance and saying its cant be done by anyone so yea stuff like that gets to me at time
no the axe kick is not used with the heel, its used exactly how they showed it, accept its mainly to used on the shoulder, and it would be more powerful if they did use the heel, but get more distance with the front
im no tkd expert but i think you should be striking with the heel of your foot. not the flat part on the bottom. silver guy just gave that guy a massive bitch slap with the foot.
@kylescotternest Pretty sure the video has it right the heel is the preffered striking surface, but the foot should be pointed to protect the achilles tendon, and because of this if you dont get the distance right you will often hit with the ball instead of the heel. Which is still going to throw him off and possibly do damage.
while this vid shows impact with the ball of the foot, my own exp is that the heel is better. In fact, most ppl from where I trained were unable to do a board break if they used the ball rather than heel. Anyone know of an axe kick that IS supposed to be done with the ball of the foot? I think it was a mistake in animation, but perhaps I'm mistaken.
@imreadydoctor In MMA, I don't think the heel in a variation of this kick is allowed. If this kick is still allowed in MMA schools it has to be used as a ball of the foot kick rather than a stomp variation of this kick on the ground. I know MMA n TKD r 2 diff things but Ithe only ball/foot variation I can think of is in MMA schools
I dont know, I find that a bit too dificult to perform and not enough powerful. Kicking above his head and then slapping him with your foot? Maybe with that shit on shoe, but otherwise no, thanks.
Stupid kick. In a dire scenario where I would be forced to use martial arts, I would aim the tip of my foot right into his throat, or my heel right into his diaphragm, then get the hell out. You would need to be extremely tall, or your opponent extremely short in order to create enough downward momentum to make this kick remotely effective. Yes, its part of the martial art, and no everything as as useful as everything else, but christ, its for TV, pick something a little better!
@vvbn7890 are you kidding me? Im like 5.8 ft tall and I delivered that kick to someone who is over 6 ft, yes i know sometimes the kick to the babymaker is more effective, but dont judge thesse moves with height differences
@moneyparade Do explain.. If what youre saying is true, your foot would have to be at least 5 inches above the top of your head to even touch the guys face - and then at that point you would need to be able to generate enough force from probably less than 5 inches worth of acceleration space to generate enough force to hurt a guy. Again, this kick is not very effective in a real combat scenario - with your foot up so high, you can easily get off balanced and taken to the ground.
@vvbn7890 No, the axe kick is extremely fast, almost as fast as a Wing Chun masters punch speed. Also when your in a close up situation, you would kick the face as you bring your foot up, or hit the guys stomach. This kick is effective and used and kickboxing and MMA
@moneyparade lol im all for the axe kick but are you seriously trying to say a kick, and of all the kicks an AXE KICK is faster than a wingchun punch? seriously?
I was actually taught that I make the move first next to the opponent, you know, I swing it from next to the opponent to when it's above his head, then place it on his head actually. at kickboxing atleast
@075MYCITY yes head or shoulder. thats to learn form and also not to break there shoulder. people in clip forget to add that the weight of the leg is def noticeable even at slow speed/
All the example in the video does is rake the face with the toes, far more effective when using the heel on the clavicle or forehead but you'd be more prone to injury.
@GregTom2 The only way that would happen is if a lot of force is applied to only the top of the knee, while the foot is held stuck. That never happens, and certainly not from this position.
It's not uncommon for a muscle or two in the back of the leg to hurt a little after such a strike because they got overstretched momentarily.
The problem with this and many other Tae Kwon Do techniques is that they are easy to avoid (the opponent could have side-stepped it or just taken a step backwards for example) and can leave you in vulnerable positions if properly countered (in this case, the attacker is exposing his crotch, which is never a good idea)
beginner and advance kicks dont exist, it just depends on the way you execute it, i can probably show you a front or round kick beginner and advanced, kicking has an insane about of variaty when you've been practicing for a long time
Perhaps the reason the heel isn't used is b/c there's more friction with the foot so it'll cause more downward force. I don't think heel would do as much damage that high up as opposed to a lower target.
I would rather use this as a finishing strike after getting the opponent onto the knees. The damage can then be placed on the back, head or knee. It may kill the opponent, but my intention is to leave them literally broken since death is too good for those low life attackers who bring pain onto others for the fun of it
But if the opponent was the grey man, well... Yeah, I'll run
this doesnt produce much pain to the reciever. the leg must be lifted straight up and straight down. startin from left or right (whichever ur comfortable with) and brought down in the middle
This would be correct if it the Silver Surfer's axe kick didn't just graze the nose. It's supposed to follow through! I have yet to see one Human Weapon episode where they actually know what their talking about!
not a kick for self defense lol. i can lift my leg that high. and i know that alot of people could with some training. Nonethelss. If the ground is slightly slipery you will most likely fall :D if looks cool though.
uh yea have fun getting blocked with this technique. And your not gonna do too much damage with the bottom of your foot. What you need to do is slightly swing your leg outward when you axe kick.
