@rabates123 Back when they composed actual themes and weren't afraid of melody.
Totally agree. Really listening to this score today i realize its a VERY good score. Tense and gripping, grand and sweeping and each theme is given a great identity musically.
@worldwings Hi, Worldwings. I had the distinct pleasure of crewing on four of the most unusual 74's built, the E-4B Advanced Airborne Command Post that supported the National Airborne Operations Center (NAOC) mission. Indeed, a magnificent machine. Great memories of a spectacular aircraft. And, all four are still operational.
@worldwings hi. glad to meet you. i worked for UAL from jan.1998 - jan. 2007 @ JFK Term. 7 Dept. CG. we may have seen each other. now i'm out of work & applying for employment w/ other airlines but w/o luck. thanks for writing. see you soon. ****
I'm sure this has been said already, but the most hilarious double-feature is watching this side-by-side with "Airplane!" Of the whole Airport series, that film seemed to borrow most from this one.
That said, the theme is quite lovely; a very sweeping theme. :)
Joker3092, sorry it was you to thank for the heads up about the cd of the soundtrack, I still have tried and tired to find it but I am unable. I have several rare expanded soundtracks to share if anyone could possibly share this from CD. Thanks.
Thanks Ostmusicmix for the tip, unfortunately so far it is so rare I only found it on CD at Amazon for $159.99. 1 track from the album: The Theme song, is available on other sources. Again, thanks for posting the opening theme sounding great.
@harlandted Just to let you know,it is available on cd,it was released on Japan-MCA label as an import,if you nose around online, you can probably find it.
Seeing that movie poster sent me back. I had that on my bedroom wall in 1975. I swapped it for a Live and Let Die magazine that I'd got a few years earlier from the odeon in southend.
This movie gets made fun of allot but it has bar none the best aerial photography of a big jet of all of the Airport movies. Airport the movie aerial is a JOKE because its all models. Airport 77 is a joke because its also all models, save for a few real landing shots. Airport 79 is about as bad as it gets. But this flick has the bona fide real deal 747 in flight. Its beautiful photography. The opening shot on a big screen is so awesome.
love this music

Zimbalist setting the autopilot by feel and memory alone is still one of my top hardass movie moments. Great scene.

I happen to think that Karen Black and Charlon Heston made a damned good couple!

Awesome theme - & Kennedy & Heston were perfect . . . !

This Theme could have been a good fit for Airport '77. I think could have made the movie (Airport '77) a little bit more darker.

This is a great melody from John Cacavas. Sounds like Eduard Tubin!
