@ShadowRave I totally agree. Well, not totally: my idea was to make a behind the scenes video out of the so called music montage exercise, which was a video edited to music. Much appropriately, those days in NYC studying and shooting with those guys was really good indeed. So it was an obvious choice.
You're very right, I could have used just about any other song and it would work.
Thanks for being so straight and honest with your comment. YouTube could use more of that.
Kinda. This is a behind the scenes clip of 3 films and one of them was about a girl cheating on her boyfriend with all his friends. Too bad it isn't up on Youtube for you to watch...
@AltimaNEO Well, I do think the photography is rather poor at some moments (specially at the apartment, where we were shooting for the Arri in B&W, so we didn't mind having mixed light temperatures, which messed up the colors for the Nikon). It was the very first material I shot on a DSLR and I was an actor in 2 of the films and DP on the 3rd, so it was really tricky to get it to work. I didn't do anything in post other than editing and titles, so...
@leandrolefa Well what I meant was you typically have to measure everything to get the right picture you want. Its a lot of work. But sometimes a point and shoot is just bliss - thus the whole "camera on automatic and it feels good."
@AltimaNEO I see. To speak the truth, it's pretty much what you can do with the D3100, since it doesn't feature manual video settings. All you can do is white balance and AE lock =c/
Nice work! Would you recommend this camera for shooting a short dramatic film? I'm trying to find something that produces a nice cinematic image but dosn't cost a ton. Is the rolling shutter problematic in hand-held work? I'm aware that there's no sound input, but I'd be shooting double system anyway.
@ProbablyOkay Hi! Thanks! Yes, definitely this camera is an interesting choice. This was the very first thing I shot on it, so this is really me learning the camera.
The rolling shutter might be an issue in abrupt moves such as this zoom out @0:23. But I've done handheld stuff without any problems (even with 200mm lens, the VR works great).
About the sound, even with expensive cameras I would recommend double system. Cameras are not good for sound. Ever.
I like some of the shots here but tbh I would say most songs would go with this video. It isn't context sensitive. Nice try.

Still, a worthy exercise.

whats the thing mounted to the bottom of the camera? Is that like a tripod for your hand?
rocketdrone 9 months ago
@rocketdrone That's a GlideCam. It's used to making smooth shots when walking around with the camera.
It's a nice tool to have.

@ProbablyOkay If you plan on buying something, 2 affordable options I use are Zoom H1 and Zoom H4n handheld recorders.
Good luck with your project (I hope to watch it!) and write again if you will.

what lens did you use?
radioactivetrash 1 year ago
@radioactivetrash The Nikkor 18-55mm and 55-200mm that came with the camera.
They're dark (3.5-5.6 and 4-5.6, respectively), but worth the price. Got the B&H kit ;c)
Cheers!

@leandrolefa When you bought them did it come with a bundle ? and how much with the bundle and everything ?
azngamefreak46 1 year ago
@azngamefreak46 It was with the two lenses $769. but I see they don't have that kit anymore.
