The words of this song are actually a traditional hymn written by Charitie Bancroft in, 1863. I can't remember hearing it sung much before ten years ago. That is probably because it was set to music that was really dreary or too difficult for most congregations to sing (eg Jerusalem). Thank God that there are really talented composers and arrangers who are writing new tunes and bringing back timeless truths. This is a great example of where the feel of the words matches the feel of the music

That part about Satan telling me of the guilt within. It really speaks to me. I've struggled with the addiction of perfectionism for almost 20 years. It took a long time before I could look in the mirror and tell Satan where to get off because I'm not perfect, but Jesus loves me anyway. I still struggle everyday. Well, certainly you understand that there is a battle between God and Satan. However, it's already been won by Jesus Christ, who defeated Satan at the cross. There are NO delights in hell. Well it was said by Dante Alighieri when he wrote, "All hope abandon ye who enter here."  Satan is a sore loser, and he is determined that, if he is going down, he's taking as many humans with him as possible. If you're not on the winning side with Christ, then you've been taken in by Satan's lies.

I agree with you entirely, but something not many people know unless they've studied Dante's work "The Inferno" in depth is that it was almost entirely a political allegory. His government was highly corrupt and political parties were literally at war with one another, and he used his written word to immortalize them in "hell" and to persuade a weak-minded gentry to see those men how Dante saw them.
