I love this bird...in my language it's called 'Gluhar' " which is from the word 'deaf'. The sounds it makes kind of seem like the sounds of a deaf person/animal IMHO....lol....I love you Glunhar'
There was no force in David's kick, he understandly didn't want the bird getting too close when he was vunerable and it could go for the face. All he did was gently push it away, but not with enough force to hurt it.
Gotta love Sir David, jumping right into it and getting involved with nature rather then narrating from the sidelines.
I don't know but I think Attenborough accidently kicked the Capercaillie when it attacked him :( He didn't mean to I don't think. Attenbrough is really someone to look up to if you like animals. At least he has a sense of humour!
@SimilkameenSlayer1 Acually yes! so much so that they very neerly went extinct in scotland. The breeding stock was so depleted that more had to be brought in from mainland europe.
they used to wander about all over the place here - like loads of other native uk species - until building developments, land-grabbing, wrong ways of gardening and keeping parks, all contributed to the destruction of their homes.
landscaping is a big problem, cause in public and also private areas of green, they completely ruin the natural way the plants and grasses grow.
they'd gone extinct from the area i live in, before i was born here.
I think capercaillies are the most beautiful birds in the whole world. Hunting is allowed only in theautumn in Finland, and they are very tender. That kind of acting happens only in the spring. Im sorry for my writing skills :D
LOL....no wonder they became extinct in Scotland. They probably charge hunters with guns, easier than shooting a fish in a barrel. Charged by a grouse....haha
this is why you shouldn't mess with the scots! even our birds will take you out hahaha! Sir David is awesome! he easily has one of the best jobs in the world :)
You can't hunt them during the breeding season when this is filmed. Only in the autumn months, and at that time they are extremelly shy. And they taste delicious :)

It is wrong what Attenborough say about the attack. The Capercaillie doesnt normally attack us humans, they are in fact very shy. This is a phenomen that sometimes occur. Among normal capercaillies you have to use a camouflage, a tent, to watch these birds, also during this breedingseason.

The capercaillie was instinct in Scotland but they introduced them from Sweden on the 1800- something. The swedish name is Tjäder.

Watching this is somewhat of a torture, but guided by David Attenburough makes me confident!
Especially because he laughs and stands in front of him!!!! I would be crapping my pants and running!
