  • This happened to my 2001 when It had around 140,000 miles, now it's 197,000 still drives great

  • Thanks! Been having this problem great vid

  • My 2000 BMW 328i have the same problem. The only difference is the reverse works more often than not so I decided not to replace the transmission until it gets worse. Occassionally, there is no reverse but the next day it working fine.

  • I have a BMW with the ZF5HP24 transmission...do these fail in reverse & neutral in the same manner or is this problem only affecting this model transmission. I have to say, this looks rather daunting for the casual shade tree mechanic. Transmissions always are a VERY scary thing since they're so complicated. I think nothing of tearing into an engine to do this or that but a tranny??? YIKES !!!

  • I am having this same problem with my 2000 BMW 328i. Sometimes it want go into reserve.

  • 2000-323, 115km. Cost me big bucks to fix my tranny that was recalled by GM at the time and ignored by BMW. When contacted they blew me off and said it was past warranty...yeah...on a 115k tranny. I started a facebook page about it. All 2000-2003 300 series have the GM tranny that dies between 100km to 120km. Fuckers should take responsibility for their shit....GM did..why doesn't BMW?

  • Thanks fr this... educational. I had this problem with my 330ci my drum broke causing it to have no reverse. Still hve the drum as a souvenir lol

I got my trany rebuilt cuz idk how to fix trannies. Total cost was $2440.96 :/

    Very disappointed with BMW.

  • Peace if crap car. Tranny is a GM tranny, same as in a CTS LOL only paying for the logo. The reason why the rear gear goes out is becuase when you put it into drive, transmission oil gets evanly distributed through out the gears with preasure, when you put it in reverse, ALL the oil nd preasure goes into rear gear only, cuasing it to crack then break over time.Giving lots of gas in reverse speeds up the break. there is a bigger oil dist. valver you can put in, but cheaper to buy a used tranny.

  • BMW has same problem this drum on E39 since 1997 at least with no fix. On my car with the 4.4Liter engine the clutches were destroyed when the drum went so whole tranny rebuit. The "lifetime" fluid alone $325. Total $3600. Only 130k miles the dealer wanted a new $6700 transmission and implied that 130k is a "lot of miles" what BS. A transmission should last at minimum 200k miles. A flew months later it failed again this time i the pump tabs sheared. What a POS.

  • bmw offers to change whole tranny as BMW is money sucking company, it builds rubbish quality cars that brake constantly , and owners constantly spend lots on money on fixing continiuosly evolving problems, this is how BMW=Big money Wasted makes cash, look at JD Powers IQS rating, BMW is always below industry average , BMW-overpriced piss of shit

  • My friends BMW is doing the same thing , but on and off it doesnt go in reverse is BMW using chines crappy products? I guess there is a reason why they opened up a factory in china , it's touse cheap chines stuff Damn you BMW, I think I'll stick with my E30 for a long long time

  • damn this just happened to my wifes 323 20 min ago, fackin bmw needs to get there shit together
