  • aha!!! so here Alexander Scriabin injured his right hand practicing this and also practising the most difficult piece (islamey) with franz liszt!! no doubt :)

  • So I found a midi of this earlier today. It sounds exactly the same as this.. I'm not even kidding.

Maybe you shouldn't take that as a compliment..

  • This is one of the few performances of Valentina's I am not all that impressed with... Lang Lang's beats her's i am sorry to say :-(

  • WHERE IS THE DRAMA ???? WHERE IS THE SEDUCTION ??? Her Don Giovanni sounds like a virgin who's never touched any "meat" !!!!!

  • @flexyguzi hahahaha. then perhaps you should listen to lang lang's version

  • Everyone knows that this piece was written in honor of Mozart right? Reminiscenes de Don Juan Mozart. The theme used from 3:45 is from Mozart's opera Don Giovanni.

  • @daytonmlivingston Not only this theme, all themes of the piece are from Don Juan.

  • @mikedeliv

Thats absolutely preposterous. At 8.5 minutes, thats about 2000 notes per minute or about 33 notes per second. Even if the whole piece were composed of four fingered chords, she'd have to be playing four per hand per second. Check your sources and come back.

  • @whoslayedgoliath the WHOLE piece has over 17.000 notes. This is only the first half

  • @mikedeliv excuse my miscomprehension, that makes more sense :P

  • @whoslayedgoliath not impossible, 32 notes per second = 32nd notes at 60bpm = 16th notes at 120bpm, perfectly normal

  • Until 5.15 she has already played OVER 4.000 notes. The whole piece has over 17.000 notes!

  • @FranciscoRivera777 i know exactly how you feel... except i only play the piano. im only fifteen but i've for almost ten years, and i can guarantee you it will take me another ten years to learn this!! i doubt i'll even have time then, with college and such.

  • oh my god, i'm in awe, shocked, my mouth is wide open. You can't be human!!! :)

    you should come to Brazil!

  • When will you perform in Dallas?

  • Thats got to be the best piano oin the world... It sounds fabolous! and you play even better, i am a hungarian myself and you are franc liszt number 2.. the female version! :P

  • Try changing your diet. There are certain things you can do to improve the energy output of your body and your concentration. Eating blueberries regurlarly (I like dried blueberries) will increase micro-cirulation, take a high dose of B-complex vitamins, try cordycept mushroom powder with green tea. Eat, or juice (preferably), broccoli, kale, purple cabbage, beets, and carrots. You have to increase the energy output of your cells. This will help greatly in your effort.

  • Pathetic............, I practice and practice and practice the piano, but no matter how much i practice i cannot get anywhere close to having a technique to play this piece..., it seems i am only proficient in playing the Classical Guitar......, i feel like giving up the piano........., but, oh well i have a whole life to live.........., after all a 17 year older like me cant get so virtuosic in the piano............, good job Valentina!!!!!!!!

  • @FranciscoRivera777 This piece is kinda insane anyway, and not very well-written.

  • @FranciscoRivera777 Addendum: Noting that the piece is not very well-written, making it sound nice does take more skill on the part of the performer--which Lisitsa clearly has.

  • Mozart's "La ci darem la mano" theme is so brilliant. the way it was arranged/played here reminds of Disney movie songs (a good thing), especially the part at 6:10

  • Awesome...I never had listened and I loved, especially the performance of this magnific pianist. Thank you very much indeed.

  • Fab - - (I also love Kentner's recording)

  • O I love you!!

  • lang lang is most better

  • @MANEBIVO this is pathetic- are you seriously listening to such a magnificent piece played incredibly and saying the showy and all TV favorite "Lang Lang" is better. Piano is for the the ears not the eyes. No matter how much one moves sound should be clear, an essence lost with Lang Lang- I say that she is the next Horowitz. Fantastic performance!

  • you can seriously do anything.

  • 6:56-7:05: I guess for 90% of all pianists this would rather resemble a hit-and-miss ;-) Not for Valentina, obviously :)

  • Saying that Valentina is quite a talent would certainly be a gross understatement; she plays with an ease and abandon that is breathtaking. Even the hardest passages flow. Watching her fingers literally "float" around the keyboard is sheer pleasure... and absolutely mesmerizing.

  • i'm amazed with ur performance. It's really beatufull! When will u perform in Austra?

  • Absolutely superb!

  • astoundingly good.

  • Fabulous!

Valentina has the most elegant long hands; they rise and fall so gracefully they remind me of two swans floating up and down on thermals high in the heavens.

I've bought both her Black and Pink and Schwanengesang DVDs. Highy recommended!

  • lang lang has no style, you can't compare him with the graceful one of valentina

  • I completely admire her acurracy---She plays the style like Horowitz, which is incomparable to Lang Lang's style---and he can not play as accurately and clearly as this lady-- and I believe that she is at a much higher standing- perhaps not the "showy and fancy" performer, but possesses true talent. Just listen- you can hear every note like a raindrop- so she doesn't need to cover it up all with pedal. Wonderful performance!--one of my favorite pieces ever!

  • completely a different feeling from LangLang's version

    i love this

  • pleeease come to share your wonderful music with us in switzerland, dear valentina!

  • Excellente Pianist

  • I like this. :D

  • AMAZING I LOVE YOU!!

  • Lang Lang's version is way better

  • somewhere too high for you :)

no im just kidding i respect your opinion but " wayy better " is exagerated if not compeltely false.

  • And the statue of the Commendatore spoke from beyond the grave that Don Giovanni's laughter would soon end.

  • 8:32 - 8:36

    awesome :)

  • when are you coming to london!

  • this pianiste is great. if she doesn t make a big career no one does...

  • she already has a great career look on her website to see the schedule.

  • I like this part 6:29

  • well preffer his Hungarian Rhapsody 2! I just can't enjoy this piece whatever it's musical value (which I'm sure is very high) :P

  • A Staggering Pianistic Accomplishment !!! Unfortunately the Musicality That I Know She Possesses Suffers to Keep up That Frantic Intensity - its a Tough Tradeoff - Lang Lang Tries to Do it but Starts Hitting Too Many Bad Notes and Making Stuff Up. I Think Valentina Has Climbed to the Third Best I've Ever Heard Only Surpassed by Evgeny Kissin and Marc Andre Hamelin - and Not to Mention She Is a Lot Easier on the Eyes than Those Two. Keep Going Valentina but Watch out Aimi Kobayashi Is Coming.

  • I like Lang Lang's version. The intro on this one was too quiet, I think it should be louder. But the middle section on this on was beautifully played. However, this interpretation is a little too quiet for my taste. Please don't start a flamewar, we all have our own opinions. I know how you youtubers react to opinions.

  • steinway rules!

  • is steinway's piano better than yamaha and kawai one ?

  • steinway are the best there are. all the great pianists like horowitz, martha argerich, everybody, plays with steinway.

  • You make me miss my Steinway piano...

I actually GAVE IT AWAY TO MY RELATIVE when I bought a new, bigger piano, if you can believe it. But I remember how good it sounded... Gosh.

  • what's the new piano?

  • steinway are the best. but dont forget bosendorfer either.:)

  • its your opinion

  • hahahah just watch several piano concerto videos and look at the piano's brand. ; )!!!

I think: Steinway, yamaha and then kawai.

  • For "English" action, Steinway is considered the best. For "Viennese" action, Bösendorfer would probably be the best.

  • English action and Viennese actions were found in early nineteenth century forte pianos, but forte pianos have long been obsolete, succeeded by modern pianos with cast iron frames. Neither Steinway nor Bosendorfer ever made forte pianos.

  • yamaha is really good so is steinway!

  • Fazioli rules! Italian pride :D

  • hoooooooly ! How old is she ?!!? :D

  • spasibo, Valja !

  • With pleasure I look this video again and again. Brilliant performance! Thanks you!

  • SOmber introduction!!! One can barely see the Comendatore returning from the dead coming through the strings of the piano!!!! Thank you very much, Lisitsa!

  • you plan so nicely on such nice pianos.

  • She takes the double thirds with 2 hands in a couple of spots! Interesting!

  • You played that middle section so lovely. Thanks

  • 8: 16 - 8 :35 such a passion!

  • I'm glad she went down the piano route :) Started at 3, solo recital after 1 year ?? I have received an attention span of max 2 minutes on a few simple counting exercises from a kid of that age ! Amazing.

  • Yup.. that's what Wikipedia has to say on her lol. Thanks for that.

  • i love your big hands.you are not valentina but franz liszt him self.

  • Hello, I'd like to know why you say it is no music in this piece, you do not like Liszt?

I would like to know what think Valentina?

  • Why is there no music in this piece? I find that statement absurd in the extreme.

  • Why is there no music in this piece? And why should she not play liszt? I find your statements absurd in the extreme. Would you care to explain?

  • lovepeace, No music in this piece ? You're joking right ?

  • are you kiddin, right??she was born to play liszt. i love that she puts so much passion in her playing :X

  • I love you Valentina serious. With you I very far flying in the sky. I think you were created to play Franz Liszt. You played well technically and emotionally. And thank you very much for high-quality video. I would like to see you play 12 Twelve studies transcendent performance of Franz Liszi.

    (Molto Vivace) Paysage Preludio

    Mazeppa

     Feux follets Vision Eroica

Wilde Jagd Ricordanza (Allegro Agitato) Harmonies du soir

    Chasse-Neige

  • Like she doesn't know the names of the pieces. But yeah it would be very amazing to see that.

  • hi ms lisitsa, do you have plans on going to the philippines? though it is not that friendly on classical music, although we have a symphony orchestra, you know, can still be a worthwhile. I was listening on the radio 2 days ago and i heard the balck and pink thing being played on our only classical music radio station...... we neeeeeed culture, mrs valentina listsa

  • This is absolutely amazing Ms. Lisitsa! Is there any piece that you would consider too hard or difficult? I don't think there is!

What pieces will you be playing in London with Hillary Hahn?

  • Rubinstein waxed lyrical about Janina Fialkowska when he saw her play. I'd loved to have seen his face watching Valentina ! :)

  • A wonderful sense of repose in your playing, like there's always something in reserve. This is a hallmark of the greatest pianists. This Don Juan paraphrase is really thrilling. I've greatly enjoyed your Portland appearances (especially the recital with PPI and the 5 encores!!)...hope you will return to us soon!

  • Tolstoy111 is quite right: these videos actually make me moan for more recordings which I'd buy.

Watching Valentina play pieces like this & the Ravel ones is like being a hapless insect under the spell of a praying mantis (except she doesn't actually eat you in the end :)

  • Don't do what I did and go to the wrong "Gusman", there are two!!!

  • Following up on what VF said, this should be ample proof that posting this content does not discourage people from buying it. For instance, I don't have the 'Black and Pink' DVD but I want it now.

Valentina, all the best to you and your family in the coming year. S'novim godom!

  • I want to know how can my finger moves lightly like this.

  • practice as much as her :))

  • Practice all you want...Valentina has been given a gift from God.

  • My ex UK Chetham's (once young concert pianist) stepson rates Val as "dazzlingly dexterous". It has been shown that the fastest athletes (runners, boxers) have above average proportion "fast twitch response" muscle fibres. Another study established a direct link between low-stiffness wrists/hands/fingers (measured by a calibrated frame) in the best pianists. Add Val's musical gift, you have it all.

  • Maybe not only. I think there is a gift, yes, but a hard work behind that.

  • Study 20 years, 6-7 hours a day, with no pause in weekends and holydays.

  • Very Very beautifull!!I want to know how can my finger moves lightly like this.

  • world greatest pianist! period

  • Truly amazing/breathtaking!!!

  • liszt smiles with this excellent interpretation

  • worlds greatest female panist

  • I love the visual effect of the hands jumping on movement of opposition, approximating and separating themselves at 8:32 - 8:36

  • stupenda questa esibizione !!!

  • Too beautiful :)

  • As Tolstoy111 indicates, this is part of a great reservoir of truly ace piano playing and musical intrigue from Valentina. We have her Black & Pink DVDs & have sent ones to friends and relatives as well. I hope we see much more from her. I can also confirm that one pianist in Valentina doesn't mean one approach - Valentina changes to suit the composer & draw the best out of different pieces. She is truly captivating. I return to watch her videos frequently.

  • Bravo. When will you perform in Miami?

  • Gosh, I played in Miami so many times...I am actually on the program of Friends of Chamber Music for coming spring . I do not know the date at all, but it is going to be Gusman ( in UM that is )

  • I'm sure I speak for a lot of people who post on your videos when I say 'Thanks!' for putting up so much content.

Not just clips but full works! You're building up one of the largest single reservoirs of available recorded pianism around.

And we know it won't get pulled since it's the artist doing it. Hope it continues and best wishes to you!

  • Wonderful playing and a joy to watch!

  • beautiful!

  • Does it keep going?

  • YES! watch?v=oo36WA5MPLE&feature=channel

  • great :)
