@djrowley; what a blinkered comment. Both marques are shoite in the grand scheme of things. I'm a vauxhall fan, but answer me this. Which cars are mostly left on the road? Sierra's or old mk2 cavaliers? Mk3 Astras or Escorts? Corsas or Fiestas? Without lying, it's Vauxhalls everytime.

Like I say, both manufacturers can't build a car without faults or build quality issues. A sensible person would buy jap.

OK so Ford had much success at motorsport due in no small part to their connection with Cosworth, but I seem to remember Cavaliers and Vectras winning the BTCC during the last 20 years with almost boring regularity. Oh and may I just mention the fact that the Astra is made in the UK, how many cars do Ford build over here? and production has been increased to meet demand.

@djrowley1 Hasnt it occured to you that any manufacturer who spends vast sums of money in motorsport as Ford have done will probably win something? But that doesnt mean that the everyday cars you see on the street are any better than other makes. My first car a 1973 viva deluxe had front discs, coil springs all round, whereas my mates 73 Escort L had drums and cart springs. The over hyped mk 1 and 2 escorts were about as technically advanced as a wheelbarrow, and rusted quicker!

@djrowley1 Well its a mystery to me why people are prepared to pay stupid money for what is in many cases rusty old junk. I can remember having to weld up the strut tops on 5 year old mk 2s, brilliant ! But to be fair I actually quite liked the old mk1 and 2s as even though they were probably one of the crudest engineered cars on the road, ford went one better with the mk 3 and produced an even WORSE heap. How the boys at Luton must have laughed when it was compared to the superior Astra.
