Classic track. Saw these guys a cpl of times in 67/68 ish, once on tour with Hendrix & also at The Magic Village in Manchester. Great times! Shook David O'Lists hand after the show, was just as impressed with his guitar playing than Emerson on keyboard, you could tell he appreciated it!
"Autumn To Spring" (Charisma) shares 6 songs in common, including this one, with "Emerlist Davjack" (Columbia). "Autumn To Spring" contains 3 additional songs, including 'America'; "Emerlist" only a couple: 'Rondo' & 'War & Peace.' I haven't thought about this or listened to this music in decades. It's so pleasant to be reacquainted with these gems, thanks to you.
probably my favourite lp. bought it when I was14. first heard it on juke box jury tv programme. saw them live which was so good, and they had power and showmanship as well as daring to incorporate earlier classical music.it was a shame how for me elp went more mainstream in the 70s.
@MasterTechnopenguin Yea that was the idea [ although it sounds like an organ to me there may be a synthesizer in there somewhere] this was supposed to be the first progressive rock record the nice got their name from the small faces song here comes the nice but they didnt do ogdens nut gone yet
"Emerlist Davjack" is a pseudonym of the four band members' surnames: Keith Emerson, Dave O'List, Brian Davison and Lee Jackson. That's "Emer-List Dav-Jack."
The pride of place in my 40 years old Nice collection is the LP acetate of TTOED. It crackles a lot but now and then I give it an outing on the turntable for old times' sake.
Plumpton is a little village set at the foot of the South Downs (a range of hills running for miles along the south coast). Nothing but countryside, very beautiful.
I didn't know Plumpton racecourse existed in those days, being a North Londoner. Mind you I wasn't so keen on the Nice by then. They'd become a bit pretentious. The Who were still good then though. Had a couple more years left in them.

Wasn't this the theme for a 1968 kid's TV Show 'The Tyrant King'also had music from Cream and Moody Blues?

Oh, who WOULDN'T want to go back and be young again? You can't, of course, which I believe adds a bit of tragedy to this otherwise euphoric song.

Does anyone else remember the chorus of this excellent song used for a 'Blueband' margarine advert of the 1960's on British TV?
I know I didn't imagine it.
NB - Saw Keith and the Nice in Watford 2003. Made me feel like I was 'going back to be young again'.

@daphneafrodita I'm going back, going back to be young again
to find the time to develop my mind and become
to really see, to really hear, to really live, to really love and become
when I was young I knew that I was right
then everything moved, I wandered out of sight

@Keith13rina for "become", read "be kind"

This sound like a Fight Song. I could just hear this in a College Football Game (Both European and American Football).

I love this record, very understated, As an Emerson fan, I had asked him about this when i met him. He responded that it was good times.
