  • @Megatron515. Stop being a dick. We bow to your superior knowledge.Just please remember that not everyone has the extensive experience that you do, and acting like a prick helps them not at all.

  • I'm a newbie. That was very insightful.

    Thanks

  • I'm shocked there are so many people actually learning something from this vid. The first thing every AR owner learns is that mil-spec mags suck.

  • Awesome. glad you told everyone about this...looks like every mag ive seen so far has been a bad one, i thought they were just all like that...i'll be sure to save up for good ones

  • I just bought a magpul pmag and it is the best one I own. people actually say you can run them over with a truck and they wont break or cause a nosedive. to hell with the army mags just cause they are made by colt dose not mean they are worth a shit.

  • @krosgood Yet another Magpul fanboy is born. It's a good mag, but they dont work in all AR type magwells. Doesn't sound like you have a lot of experience, so it's best to try everything you can and not hang your penis off just one brand. Colt made fine magazines. Most USGI mags are made by about a dozen different manufacturers... and most have anti-tilt followers. I've seen MagPul mags Jam, just like other types.

  • @MadOgre This isn't magpul's problem. They make their magazines to fit mil-spec mag wells. I'm not a magpul fanboy, but HK mags jam in my LWRCI and pmags function flawlessly.. It's silly for you to call anybody who likes a magpul product a fanboy.

  • @megatron515 Have you tried the Troy Battlemags?

  • @MadOgre No. I still have a ton of pmags so I don't have any reason (or money) to try them for now. A couple of my buddies bought some and they same the only thing the battlemag has over the pmag is the smaller profile and a flush baseplate, so the mags can be drawn from molle pouch easily.

  • @megatron515 Pretty good advantage, isn't it?

  • @MadOgre Not particularly. I can draw my pmags from my mag pouches without a problem, at full combat speed and under stress. I carried pmags in iraq and had not problems drawing from army-issued molle gear. YMMV of course, but there is no reason for me to switch over all of my mags.

  • @MadOgre They work in my Colt-SP1 and Armalite AR15. Nothing is perfect, but I believe the PMAG to be much better then thE US GI mag. The US GI mags are made of very thin almunium stampings.

  • Magpul... problem solved.

  • @TexasDistortion Unless you are running a weapon that doesn't accept Magpul magazines.... in that case, I'd go with the Troy Mags. Of course I have a crate of USGI mags have not given me any problems.

  • Crap!!! No wonder they threw a free mag(like green one) today when i bought my complete upper

  • thanks for the info. i was just about to do some AR-15 mag shopping and stumbled across this video.

  • Some mag bodies don't seem to like anti-tilt followers. I had a dozen new mags and tried 2 different types of anti-tilt followers and 9/10 times they'd lock back with a round left in the mag. The protrusion on the follower was not lining up the first round correctly in the feed lips and the follower was able to rise enough to engage the bolt catch. It must have been a problem with the mags, so it's the overall quality that's important, just a follower won't necessarily make a mag great.

  • I've seen bullets nosedive in a mag but never in an ar-15. Is is possible? Maybe. But the green followers are good enough. There is alot more needed to tell if a mag is good or not than just pushing on the front of the follower.

  • @Bendc1970A1 True, but its a simple litmus test. If it dives, I don't want it. And yes, I've seen it happen before. Especially with the older USGI mags. New ones not so much.

  • 1) Ditch the metal mags

    2) replace them with Pmags

    3) Stop worrying about magazine reliability

    4) ????

    5) PROFIT!!!

  • Magpul, D&H, OK

  • I've had no failures of any kind with three different models of Pmags including the latest models where the top cover snaps to the bottom. I bought 5 L5 Lancer mags and they suck, way too much follower tilt. I would pay someone to take them off my hands. No experience with the HK's as I can't afford their mags

  • Magpul PMags are the way to go. They run great. Love 'em.

  • The USGI mags served me very well without any hangups or misfeeds. They are good to go!

  • The new tan followers are anti tilt, unlike older green and black followers.

  • @wsucougarx I personally think the majority of the bad rep for GI mags is the service's 'use it till it shits it' attitude. Ancient mags with springs from 2 decades ago are common. Bent feed lips etc.

Like it or not, magazines (especially the springs) are wear items. They need to be replaced.

  • funny thing is the only mags that failed on em were the ones with magpul followers.

  • Failed on who? The Army? I had more than one USGI mag fail on me while I was in the service... I hated the GI mags for a long time because of it. The Magpul follower is a good upgrade.

  • no i didn't catch my typo they failed on me, they kept giving me misdeeds, id have to rip the mag out they wont feed right for me.

  • @MadOgre, I heard the reason they designed the GI mag out of aluminum stampings was because they designed it to be disposable.

  • They are. When I have a mag that fails regularly I stomp it flat and throw it away.

  • Colt mags are good too! Kay Ind. is not bad either, but HK mags are some of the best mags imo

  • @beerndumplings Colt do not make (AR) magazines.

  • @jebustheone COLT MAGS, I HAS THEM. FROM THE ARMY. YOU IS RONG, FWEND.

  • @beerndumplings It's just a stamped baseplate. Current mags are made by NHMTG/OK.

  • @jebustheone so which components of the magazine assembly need to be produced by a single manfacturer in order to "made" by that forementioned manufacturer? Also, why do you consider the production date of the magazine since the military uses magazines from over a decade ago? In other words, why does it matter if it is a "current mag?" I thought we were talking about colt magazines.

  • @beerndumplings Colt do no manufacture ANY part of the (contract OR commercial) magazine. OK/NHMTG stamps it for them. The only AR mags made by colt I think were the retro era rifles, ie waffle mags (I doubt you were issued these unless you were fobbit, 20 years ago).

I thought this was common knowledge. I'll send you an M4C thread and you can see for yourself.

  • Pmags all the way. Aim Surplus does Penny shipping on all their Magpul products.

  • Just stick to Pmags and be done with it!!

  • Normally, I'd agree with you. But some weapon systems use AR type mags but can't use the Pmag. Such as the FS2000.

  • any mags is as good as the others; only differences is the followers. If green followers so bad then why issued to military..??Mags are to feed ammos, not fingers, pens, dicky and whatever not related to ammos. All mnes function flawless and it has not giving me any problems. Magpul followers are just an aftermarket..just like trying to upgrade your toys. if it is feed ammos..then why change it. I think it is just preferences on individuals, but dont say it is bad mags. Peace!

  • Just because the Military uses something - doesn't mean it's good.

  • True to that...it is about saving cost..to Dept of Defense and also mags is disposeable..so it used standard, but it is not consider bad..having say that..it is more preference for shooter like us..the green followers are fine for avid shooters. Firm beliver if works, why fix it?

  • @MadOgre there is nothing wrong with GI mags with green followers. The ammo levels it out. I have never had any kind of malfunction with GI mags while using factory ammo. Yes the HK and Magpul mags are nice and have non tilt followers but you cant say a GI mag is a "bad mag". THEY WORK GREAT

  • dosent mean its bad either

  • @dragonz72

I agree with you. I have put thousands of rounds through all types of AR mags and have found no flaws in the mil spec mags from Tapco, colt, Bushmaster, and Brownells. I think every one has their own opinion and MadOgre does make a good point about the mag sticking, but I would not judge a mag from this test alone. The only mags I would test like this are 1911's. I have bought a lot of junk and most high cap aftermarkets are trash.

  • or you can buy the HK mags and pay 50 bucks a peace...

  • ask supply sergeant when you get downrange and then say it you had a field loss

  • good vid

  • Magpul is the best. HK mags have had problems in the field...and they're heavier than other mags.

  • Magpul alone has my money.

  • yeah HK mags are 50 bucks a pop though. I'll stick with the ar stoners and if i need to, replace the followers good info I just can't justify the price of the HK mags

  • Great video. Thats why my sks mag has problems.

  • Best Review on Mags

  • are you wearing a class right??

  • A Class Ring? Is that what you meant?

    If so, yes.

  • yea ring haha i have the same style but its celestium

  • Mine is from the Army, an Infantry ring. Stainless Steel that I had gold plated but the gold is wearing off. Oh well.

  • being an owner of several brands/types of mags for the AR 15 platform alone... PMags are the way to go!

  • Absolutely. I have more than a few for my Sport Utility Rifles.

  • hahah, SUR"s? never heard of that, but it works!
