I hear the noise too. My school provides us all with MacBooks for use during the school year as part of a statewide program & mine suffers with that problem. I'm glad to hear it is a widespread issue.
go to Audio MIDI Setup (which is in /Applications/Utilities), go to the Audio Devices tab, look at Properties for iSight, and make sure that "Clock Source" is "Default" or "Internal". Also under "Audio Input", make sure that the Format is set at 44100 Hz, 2 channel 16 bit.
@stashincash06 People with different accents say things differently. Some people pronounce it Mickrophone. So the shortening of that would be pronounced mick, not mike.
The reason why the Apple guys aren't hearing the sound is because they are older. Perception of high-pitched sounds (over 16kHz) degrades heavily from age 25 up.
Btw. THE NOISE WAS KILLING ME TOO. I backed off the treble on my amp so i could get thru the whole vid.
The way that tech answered is unacceptable. For a comp that costs that much i'd at least expect NICE SUPPORT. Fortunately i'm techy enough to support myself, but regardless of knowledge customers shouldn't be put thru that.

And Macs are no longer what they used to be. My MacBook (Model#4.1) has a faulty Ethernet socket which MacSupport couldn't fix (ALL 4.1s are like that) They kept trying to blame it on me
I don't understand what the problem is? It's just an infinite loop of sound cycling out of the speaker and right back into the mic. Same as if you get a vocal mic and put it close to the PA system it's connected to. Just lower or turn off the volume when recording? You don't need to hear yourself talking in real time, that's ridiculous.
You deserve to be pissed. If for nothing else other than the fact that they DIDN'T fix the problem. I've had problems with MacSupport in the past. I guess it's hit and miss. Doesn't say a lot for their company, sadly.
if you have some probz with Mac or os x, just try to reinstall os X, and if it don't solve your probz, it's mine you have an hardware problem, and the mac support can't help U.
You have to brought your Mac to an apple store, or kind of.

I would recommend going into the System Prefs and checking the audio settings... I had to turn on noise reduction and turn up the sensitivity of the mic... I also use a mac and trust me, this is quiet.
you have an older macbook it sounds like you have screen while and since the mic is built into the frame of the screen then it would make sense that it would pick it up if thats not it is it feedback from your apartment?

OK, I worked in recording studios for seven years (the 80's), worked in tech support for 4 years, then quality assurance, and then application programming. I am 50 and I can hear this sound. it is obvious, it is annoying. It is from the microphone circuit (not the mic itself). It is a manufacturing flaw. A computer makes a lot of electrical noise and the audio circuit must be designed with filters to keep it from being audible. Sometimes the parts that make up the filter are slightly flawed...

i think the tech support really varies in quality from apple store to apple store. i brought my ipod in becuse the screen was really dim and yellowish and he refused to help becuase he "didn't see the problem" even though everyone i showed it too could clearly see the issue.
i hear a whirring sound, kind of like a squeak. That tech guy is kind of right though. A very small mic built into the computer wouldn't be as good as a studio quality external mic. It's possible that the noise is from the hard drive inside the computer. Perhaps you should try recording using a macbook at the apple store and see if it makes the same noise. if it doesn't, you should demand a new computer. you did pay a premium price for the mac.
BTW I guess had great luck with Apple Tech support. My MacBook got back to me in half the time they said it would. I am not hearing a beeping sounds, and if you listen to my videos you don't hear and ringing/beeping sounds.

I just got my macbook 2 days ago and I'm having the same problem. I took it back to the store to get it fixed after the first day and they were pretty nice and gave me an entirely new macbook, but it has the exact same problem! If this problem is that common, then they must have known about it, so I can't imagine why they thought giving me a new one would make the problem, or me, go away.

I had a blue screen on my mac, I was out of warranty (I was over a year), I called in, the guy wanted to charge me but at the same time he told me to try first the forums and also gave me a link with possible solutions, it worked and it save me $49 bucks, that guy helped me not like fucking HP they just wanted me to pay when I called no further assistance. Imovie is easy, better than windows movie maker.
Mac is not perfect, but it's way better than all pc's. I agree with you in being pissed off, plus every one lies, you really believe that tech guys care about customers? I've been working with customers for about 6 years at higher levels and trust me, WE DON"T GIVE A F**K about customers, we try to solve your issue, try to be friendly, but if we can't fix it we will give you the run around, ...so you have to talk to cust. service because we don't handle this.. that type of thing, sad but true
The mic on my iMac is rubbish as well but I never expected it to be good in the first place. Save yourself all the trouble of trying to fix it and buy a quality external mic.

I did it to get them to fix the hinge, I think they didn't want any new customers to be scared out of buying, so they took it right away and fixed the hinge in 3 days!
Welcome to the world of IT-tech. Do not expect a computer to work like a TV. The Mac ads did not promote it's products as "perfect", the main selling point was that it was "better" than Microsoft. I had the exact same problem, I took it to my AASP and they replaced the iSight cam and now the sound is gone, however now the case is coming apart above the cam.....looks like another trip to my AASP
i have the same issue, i went to 3 different support guys and they all told me the same thing, its how the macbook was made and all macbooks does this. you need to buy an external mic to remedy this problem. useless apple "genius" and stupid product design

Macbooks (aka Crapbooks) are:
1) Over-rated/hype("hey everyone, I own a Mac)
2) Over-priced (1.5 times)for entry hardware
(hey look, I have an 'awesome' "Intel Integrated Graphics")
3) Flaky, keyboard touch (i have seen many Mac fanboys struggle with typing, however they refuse to admit mac keyboards suck)
4) Glossy, cheap PLASTIC look/built.
btw they're MADE IN CHINA, however many Mac fanboys still refuse to accept it and still think they're "Made IN Cupertino, CA

OMG is that what the noise is? I hear this on other mac vids but its louder on yours. Its really annoying and its killing me just listening to your vid right now but you're very cute so I dont mind putting up with the noise while watching this vid :)

I had a blue screen on my mac, I was out of warranty (I was over a year), I called in, the guy wanted to charge me but at the same time he told me to try first the forums and also gave me a link with possible solutions, it worked and it save me $49 bucks, that guy helped me not like fucking HP they just wanted me to pay when I called no further assistance. Imovie is easy, better than windows movie maker.

Mac is not perfect, but it's way better than all pc's. I agree with you in being pissed off, plus every one lies, you really believe that tech guys care about customers? I've been working with customers for about 6 years at higher levels and trust me, WE DON"T GIVE A F**K about customers, we try to solve your issue, try to be friendly, but if we can't fix it we will give you the run around, ...so you have to talk to cust. service because we don't handle this.. that type of thing, sad but true

The mic on my iMac is rubbish as well but I never expected it to be good in the first place. Save yourself all the trouble of trying to fix it and buy a quality external mic.

I hear it, I had a problem like that, the idiot on the Apple Support line keep telling me to flash the logic board, what an idiot. You know, you don't spend $1500 for a paper weight.
PS: I love my MacBook and I love Apple but some people just shouldn't be working for them!

Oh and By the way, I know a lot of people that use the MacBook for a primary recording device, its bullsh**, go to the Apple store and just complain, and don't stop, talk REALLY loud, so everyone in the store hears you. I did it to get them to fix the hinge, I think they didn't want any new customers to be scared out of buying, so they took it right away and fixed the hinge in 3 days!

Welcome to the world of IT-tech. Do not expect a computer to work like a TV. The Mac ads did not promote it's products as "perfect", the main selling point was that it was "better" than Microsoft. I've never understood the almost crusader-like fervor of Mac users. It seems the notion is that as soon as you purchase a mac, you become part of a club where all the cool people hang out, but everyone I see at my local Mac store all look like they're heavily into indie rock and growing their own food.

I had the exact same problem, I took it to my AASP and they replaced the iSight cam and now the sound is gone, however now the case is coming apart above the cam.....looks like another trip to my AASP

i have the same issue, i went to 3 different support guys and they all told me the same thing, its how the macbook was made and all macbooks does this. you need to buy an external mic to remedy this problem. useless apple "genius" and stupid product design
