The Phantom truly has a deep, passionate love for Christine, and she's also the only woman he's ever loved, maybe even the only person...and she doesn't love him back...even after all he did for her to get her where she is.. As for Raoul, if Christine didn't choose him, I'm sure he would have ended up perfectly fine in the world. The Phantom would have finally been happy for once in his life. :)

The end... I really don't like it. They kiss, and then Erik gets mad and smashes mirrors after they leave. After Meg and the others come, it goes back to 1919 with Raoul at Christine's grave... I was so surprised the first time I saw it. The Phantom (whose real name is Erik) was more of a teacher and a father in Christine's life after her real father died. She looked to him as a father. Remember, at first he was a Guardian Angel (of Music). Plus Erik was much older than Christine. She was only 16, he was like 40. She also deathly feared him because he was a murderer, and only really loved him when under his spell, or his charm. I don't really know why she chose Raoul, but that's why she couldn't choose Erik.
