Conservatives must be the most confused people in the world. Conservative ideologies all have a single objective: the preservation of traditional power structures that maintain social order.
This is why conservatives are traditionally associated with institutions like big business, religious institutions, aristocracy, the military, and yes, big government.
Ron Paul is not a conservative. That's why people who may disagree with him still respect him.
@getplaning I think it's more the battle between statists and non-statists. But at least liberals admit they're for big government. It's like herding cats to get a republican to admit that.
@xtremejohnny69 No, you said "liberals admit they're for big government". Name one liberal who says they are for big government, and be specific.
Liberals are for good government that protects the public from the depredations of big business whose only goal is profit. Regulations are the only tool government has to do that job. Government can not protect the public without a way to finance its operations, and taxes are how that is done.
@getplaning When government is involved in business, it has a negative effect for everyone. The consumer decides what product or service to buy so when public opinion is against one business for any reason, another one can thrive, but there will always be dissatisfaction with a business so it's hard to start a monopoly in true free market capitalism. The only thing the national government should do is defense, create a national currency, and a national weights and standards measurement.
@xtremejohnny69 Again, name one liberal who says they are for big government.
You are running away from the question and spewing libertarian talking points.
Your concept of "free markets" leads to economic imbalances that lead to massive wealth disparities and monopilies that can not be broken by any market forces other than government. Government is a necessary part of any market. Government is the rule maker that levels the playing field so there can BE competition.
@getplaning I would say Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, Barack Obama, those are a few who are for big government. Even on the republican side they're for big government i.e George Bush and John Mcain
@getplaning Really. Oh I see, that's why Piggly Wiggly is still the only supermarket grocery chain. Oh wait it doesn't exist and now there's like hundreds. Must of been government?
That why there's only one gas station chain? Oh wait.
That's why there's only one fast food chain. Oh wait.
That's why there's only one film making company. Oh wait.
That's why there's only one car company. Oh wait.
That's why there's only one computer company. Oh wait.
@Premier112 You're not too bright, are you? How many banks do you have to choose from? How many health insurance companies? How many wireless telecoms? How many cable providers? All major industries have been consolidating over the last 30 years. Even car dealerships are being bought up by major conglomerates. Soon, you will have about five chains of car dealer to choose from when there used to be thousands.
Without anti-trust enforcement by government, monopolies are inevitable. Basic econ 101
@getplaning Then why wasn't everything monopolized before government stepped in with anti-trust? In fact it's the free market that prevents monopoly power. The innovative creativity of the entrepreneur destroys monopolies - but only when the entrepreneur doesn't hit the glass ceiling imposed by wealthy people through the use of government itself. Do you know how much money it takes to form a public company? How much red tape the government wraps us in? Gov builds oligarchy - econ 100
@ostralopithicus My God...haven't you ever been to school? What about the steel, railroad, oil, and banking trusts (monopolies) of the late 19th century/early 20th century? I can't believe that people like you have access to a computer and can't even find Wikipedia.
Look, don't get me wrong. I an a believer in capitalism, but your version of a free market that has no regulations, rules, or limits has historically led to collapse every single time.
You are correct, however, that wealthy interests buy their way into the government to strengthen their position against competiton. Koch industries, ironically a company run by Libertarian oligarchs, is a perfect example.
@getplaning Right back atcha - those oligopolies existed because of government. How did the railroads get the land for building on - government eminent domain. Trusts are a product of the legal system - again government maintained. The first thing evil people do is infiltrate government so that they can steal and abuse the commons with impunity. What you fail to understand is that the oligopolists (the oligarchs) want regulation - as they can use it to regulate their competition into oblivion.
@ostralopithicus It doesn't matter where the railroads got their rights of way. Trusts grew out of the merging and pooling of assets and capital at a time when there were no laws ensuring a competitve market. It wasn't until Munn v. Illinois that Supreme Court gave the government the authority to regulate businesses and protect the public from price fixing. But you already know that, I'm sure.
How about this. Name one time that so-called free market ideology has worked. Anywhere in the world.
@ostralopithicus I'm familiar with Dr DiLorenzo, having gone to Johns Hopkins which is right down the street from where he teaches. His book and film take the usual conservative path of starting with a conclusion and revising the facts to line up with that conclusion. I studied economics. I studied Austrian Economics, but as I did my research, I found that while it sounds like it should work, it never has. South America, Russia, Iraq, you name it, it has collapsed in short order every time.
@getplaning Your only and sole defense for your viewpoint, is focusing on the short initial stages of an industry's inception from a single company.
Yet Your ideology, is simply incorrect. Every time you have to site either the initial company that breaks into a field, or else ignore the very environment Your suggested policies Create, that maintain monopolys beyond first initial companies.
If Your side got your hands out of the way, wouldn't Be monopolies for long. Your work sustains them!
That is due to Your ideology's high-inflation based monetary policy, and Your ideology's government regulation and interference.
Every single one of those industries you mentioned, are among the most regulated and subject to government oversight, fields in the entire economy.
Yes, at one Point back before Central Control and having a fait based system wild with inflation, there was only one or two companies in fields "I" mentioned.
@Premier112 I asked in an earlier post, can you give one example of "your" ideology that has ever worked, anywhere in the world. So far, no one has ever been able to answer this one simple question. Every time it has been attempted, it has failed in rather spectacular fashion, and "my side" has had to intervene and put things back on track.
@getplaning I see that rather than giving one example of free-market ideology ever having worked, anywhere in the world, my comment has been marked as spam. I guess that settles that.
Words like conservative/liberal are not absolutes. Once fiscal conservatives get in bed with social conservatives, there is no more "one size fits all" true conservative. That why it's best to govern from the middle not the extremes.
Wow. Great work again by Jack Hunter. The basic points of this video should be repeated over and over at every republican forum possible. These are like bullet points that should be repeated so often that when Paul gets enough traction to provoke the inevitable smear campaign the smear will fail. Paul will be smeared as a radical, drug-loving, isolationist outsider. When that happens lets hope there is enough true conservatives who have received and understood this message ignore the smear.
without a reduction in legal immigration and enforcing the laws to have zero illegal immigration, we will soon have imported a new people that will vote liberal democrat for life and all your conservatice principles will mean squat. Bush was our first Mexican president, truthfully, I fail to see much difference between paul and Bush on immigration.
I lean very libertarian on social and economic issues like free markets and gay rights, individual liberties, etc. But I'm a big proponent of national defense (probably because I'm in the delayed entry program for the army and come from a huge military family) basically I want the national government to handle defense and not much else.
@cooljj82 Alot of my friends who are libertarian want complete isolationism, meaning absolutely no wars unless we're directly attacked. Now I think fighting with our allies when they need help and the cause is just is ok, or fighting to protect our interests like if a pro-democracy, pro-U.S. nation who supplies us with resources asked for our help militarily I see nothing wrong with helping them. There is a line to be drawn there obviously.
The news media always questions Ron Paul's take on the capture and death of Oasama. Why doesn't the news media consider the fact that now the Osama is dead we don't have a good wintenss as to who funded his alleged attacks, and how did he know that on the day of 911 that our entire aif force would be somewhere else? Who was feeding Osama with this kind of information? I guess Osama will now never tell. Murdering Osama was a bad idea and unconstitutional.
Ron Paul is the ONLY candidate who has "Walked-the-Walk" in both the name of Freedom and the Steps of Thomas Jefferson. He does not have to Ask for our Trust ... He Has Earned It!!!!
Again, this is what Dr. Paul will be up against the entire time. He will get deluged from both, socialist left and neocon right media pundits. It will be his biggest obstacle by far. I just hope he will maintain this tougher approach to interviews he seems to have adopted this time. It really works. He needs to cut the throats of every pundit that won't stay on topic and spins his message.
What amputated limb of the Tea Party does this NeoCon Malagisi represent? I'm surprised that Obama doesn't create a similar shill to speak for some other Tea Party derivative so he too can claim some allegiance to first principles of the republic.
Jack, great video and commentary. Always love your work. But please, can you get a better photo of Ron Paul than the one where he looks so pensive and worried between Santorum and Pawety?
someone please inform Mr Malagisi that we are tired of Republican vs Democrat, and that we support Ron Paul because we are Americans, before any political party or association.
These people just can't stand that anyone would be outside their little fake right vs left wing box. They want people to side with one of the two parties, then hate each others guts while not noticing that their really is no difference between the two parties. Just blindly hate the other party and ignore the actual policies.
Mr. Hunter, can you please make a video about Ron Paul's criticism of Obama's strategy of taking out bin Laden? Dumb Republicans simplify it to Ron Paul believing that Ron Paul thinks Osama was a swell guy who shouldn't be killed and it is off-limits to go after terrorists in other countries. They haven't heard of things like letters of Marque being historically recognized by foreign governments and that we could have tried bin Laden like we tried and hung the worst Nazis.
Mr. Hunter, I have been a long-time listener of yours.
If you have not done so already, I hope that you have had the chance to offer your considerable talents for eloquent rhetoric to Ron Paul and his 2012 campaign.
In anticipation of all pseudo 'chinks' in his armor ("legalizing heroin", "ending the right to choose", "gut US defenses", "anti-Civil Rights Act", and other such piffle), he would be very well-served by someone with your ability to make his cause, and ours, self-evident.
It seems like the louder they cry about Ron Paul, trying to push him out of contention, the bigger the movement for liberty in general grows. Ron Paul seems to be the catalyst that is awakening the people.
@steve0281 exactly. Just vote for him. That's all you have to do. Stop playing this bullshit game of "Which shit sandwich do you want for your entree?" Vote for Paul, and you'll sleep better.
The TEA Party has been co-opted by neocons.

"The tyrant always talks as if he's preserving the best interests of his people
when he actually acts to undermine them." -Ramman Kenoun
I can't help but feel this quote fits the Republican party at the moment, not that I'm saying they're tyrants though...

No doubt. Ron Paul is back but the Neoconservatives are STILL here. Get rid of them.

Trump is liberal, and more focused on his TV show than the country

It seems like the louder they cry about Ron Paul, trying to push him out of contention, the bigger the movement for liberty in general grows. Ron Paul seems to be the catalyst that is awakening the people.

Ron Paul is not a Republican or a Democrat. Ron Paul is Ron Paul, that's it. He supports the idea of liberty.

The Democrats are pro war as well. How could Paul sound like that?
Mauhadeeb28 10 months ago
They're doing it again, skewing views and excluding him from polls. There has to be something we can do
RogueSwordThesco 10 months ago 49
@RogueSwordThesco There is: vote for him in droves.
steve0281 10 months ago 49
@steve0281 exactly. Just vote for him. That's all you have to do. Stop playing this bullshit game of "Which shit sandwich do you want for your entree?" Vote for Paul, and you'll sleep better.
kevinjoubert 9 months ago
@kevinjoubert Indeed. If he wins, all the skewing in the world won't change that.
