Very interesting footage. The shape of the animals is wolf-like but the behaviour (gape and threat bow) is distinctly coyote-like. Is such behaviour considered a sign of coyote genes in the Eastern Wolf? Or could it be a characteristic behaviour pattern of this type of Red Wolf? Have DNA studies been done?
No, you're correct! The Eastern Wolf is the Canadian equivalent of the Red Wolves, both of which are in fact coywolf hybrids which is why they sport some coyote behaviours.
