It's funny in a way, just like non-smokers were a minority 30 years ago, the world has flipped, non-smokers are now the majority and we're seeing a rise in vegan and vegetarian numbers. Won't be long before it's 50/50. Meat production is a huge waste of planetary resources, resources that could help to grow grain to feed the starving world, resources that wouldn't be burned down for pasture land and hence creating CO2 issues for the planet. Of course there's the moral part too.
@conflict1967 I like the way you put it in practical, understandable terms. As a meat-eating person, this type of argumentation makes me think a lot more than the overused "meat is murder" and "animals suffer" vein of argumentation (indigenous cultures around the world eat meat, but they retrieve it in a much more humane manner than our current corporatized system...I deeply respect indigenous people).
I definitely think we all need to cut back on meat consumption big time.
Im all for vegetarian/vegan lifestyles...i just think humans have more work to do for each other, if that can be accomplished and made a priority, it should transition into better treatment and respect for all life on the planet.
Vegetarians don't have to be anorexic grass eaters. I live a full and happy life without meat. It is proven to be healthier and honestly I wouldn't even care if it wasn't healthier. It is morally wrong to treat ANY creature that way. And for those of you who say we should stop worrying about animals and do something good for people, I'll have you know that I probably do more work for humans than you will your entire life. But there is no peace if animals are suffering.
I said 'no disrespect' because I meant it. How many HUMANS are suffering today on this planet? Millions probably. So under the circumstances, animals come a distant second...by a long way. This doesn't mean I have no respect for people who stand by principles like Colin Jerwood, I just strongly believe they are wrong.
Butr if you fancy trading insults, that's fine by me, you thick twat.
If we were "meant" to be vegetarians we would have been born without incisors.
I respect all of you that are veggies, but please don't frown upon those that do eat meat, you are'nt any better than us because you choose to abstain, get off you r moral high horses and do something that will benefit EVERYONE.
Please remember, being a vegetarian means you do not eat fish...ok.They are not vegetables are they.Fish feel pain just as much as the next thing.wanna be veggies fuck me right off. luuv you COLIN.
@Johnoco66 yeah, your ideas talk by yourself, too hateful and speaking about "no disrespect"; you're so insensitive you don't care about other living beings...
well said! respect to you, things absolutely must change! people who abuse animals also have the same lack of respect for their fellow humans, history has taught us this but we are blind and deaf!
fuck off u people who think they've got the right to do anything and say 'this is my choice".if u don't care about nothing, then, why are u comment this vid?fuck you're free speech!
I kill animals and prepare them for my own consumption. I understand the provenance of my food. However I respect Mr. Jerwood's point of view and I admire his dedication.
Nicely put SavageFreedom. If we ended the consumption of animal flesh, the population of so-called "food animals" would go down to sustainable levels. Thus, there would be less pollution and diseases.
it's nice to hear people discuss their own stories behind their choice. this guy pretty much mirrors my opinion completely, luckily i managed to avoid having to first-hand visit a slaughterhouse though. i've seen tapes (scarred for life in junior school during a "what does your dad do" day, but one of the other kids. there's definitely a barrier, like he said. humor just kicks in when some people have their eyes forced to the dark shadow in the corner...
Many nonhuman-animals are more intelligent than human infants & some human adults who suffer from severe mental retardation. If some1 can feel pain, should it matter how smart s/he is?We would never claim that infants/severely mentally retarded adults should be used in painful experiments, have skin worn as clothing, hunted, used for entert'mnt,or eaten bcause they have no concept of responsability. When it comes to experiencing pain, other animals are our equals.
I don't feel responsible for a lot of people and things either either, still I would definitely claim that both me and animals and anybody I woudlNt care care about has rights just like me too. right.
Meat means Murder and the stick I get of my friends is always the same try a burger type joke, but deep down I know and I really do believe this is that they'd love to be Veggies themselves if they could just find the discipline the same Discipline that I've not got yet to become a Vegan......
aye, fuck bloody farmers, never met one that wasn't maladjusted (i live in a rural village, please don't tell me i've got no frame of reference!). people don't joke with me anymore, since i bet them £50 they couldn't watch 'Earthlings' all the way through. they all took up the bet and none of them got further than halfway. now i just get complete anger if i mention animal rights. "ohh shut up for fuck's sake, i don't want to hear it!". barriers, like colin said. it's all about barriers.
Vegetarianism and Animal Cruelty are two seperate subjects. Case one desires meat and meat-by-products ... you have no right on playing the angle you have chosen! If you wish to discuss this further feel free to email me.
Im not alf-peta-hsa or anything but i admire what theyre all doing, ive been a conflict fan years ago and am now beginning to re-engage and look for new ideas and share attitudes etc.....well done colin!

What should be focused on are all the endangerd animals getting killed in the rain forest for organic crops, in which I might add for myself being part of the punk scene most vegitarians buy these products due to the 'organic label'.
Good video! I've been to a slaughter house to experiance it first-hand. It didn't convince me to stop eating meat but what it did show me was people trying to make a living.
