The transition to Google Apps has been very, very smooth. Basically right now all students have a custom-made iGoogle page that shows literally everything you need on one single page. It's even connected to Blackboard.
With all the other costs that have blown up, who's going to notice an extra $100 gone. P.S., part of this is going to a welfare computer purchacing program for students who blow all of their financial aid money on weed.
If they are using google to reduce their operating costs like that fatso is claiming, then why on the earth are the jacking up the price of tuition by putting something called as IT fees - its all bull.
I wen't to ASU in 1998 and the home grown ASU e mail sucked. I am glad they went to google. Whe I started in 1998 ASU didn't even have web based email, it was text only through a special dial in number that did't always work. Gmail is sooo much better.
google naman jud ko daan pa.

I'm curious about what ASU was using for email before switching to Google apps and what type of network they have in place currently? Anyone know?

I would guess they were using Exchange Server.

ASU used a custom web page that pulled email from IMAP servers for students. Only faculty and staff were allowed Exchange accounts.

I'm very happy with Google Apps. They have opened some great doors to collaboration and I'm looking forward to what we have yet to see at ASU.
