  • does anyone know who the pianist is?

  • What a master. What an arrangement. Too bad he couldn't defeat his demons.

  • Where is this from?

  • YEEEAAHHH....!!!

  • Such mastery by Buchanan, his talent died with him.

  • That's Roy playing for you!

  • Why oh why did he not play more jazz and less 12 bar rock and roll. This is great.

  • thanks so much for this!

  • f'in sweet!

  • Who's the drummer? Is that Hal Blaine?

  • I had the pleasure of doing a Christmas/New Years gig with Mundell in Vegas at The Frontier Hotel back in 1974 with Harry James, Phil Harris, and Frankie S., Jr. I was all of 24 then. I have great memories and this video brought them to the surface. Thank you!

  • @littledebs58 - You are most welcome..

  • It's melody...all melody...Mr Roy knew more than enough to play with and push a piano, in the band...learned all of Les Paul's lessons fo' sho'!

  • who is playing piano on this?

  • Does Roy have an album like this? American standards stuff? If so, someone, please let me know. I am loving this.

  • Roy B. was versatile too! Great guitarist, way under rated never got his kudos and fame that he shoulda'.

  • One Beautiful Guitar Player !!!!! RIP Roy :(

  • a GUITAR WIZARD!!!!!!!!!!!

  • this is music, real music

  • This is what the elevator music in heaven sounds like!

  • holy shit what a band

  • I love this - keeps the sense of melody all the way through - some jazzers seem to wail around aimlessly. And he has that great tone and blues feel. Piano player is not too bad either!

  • Buch playing one of my favourite standards - wonderful! And the Great Mundell Lowe looking on and thinking, 'Yeah, this guy can play jazz guitar!'

  • he hung himself in a s.j. drunk tank by his own shirt.

    after having found himself

in jail on his last drunk in public...

  • I first heard of Buchanan in a Rolling Stone article in the early '70's... watched this footage, I think on PBS, shortly thereafter... suitably amazed of course. This scene introduced me to one of the best and most influential guitar players you've never heard of, Mundell Lowe. Got to meet Lowe, and talk to him at length, about seven years later... one of the most intelligent people I have ever met.

    Buchanan is John the Baptist.

    Gatton is You Know Who.

    Lowe is their rabbi, Hillel.

  • Roy Buchanan jesus what a player. The whole band are wonderful.Thanx for the post.

  • Is Dick Heinz the piano player?

  • the hell with the guitars, the pianist is killer!

  • wow..it IS great!
