RIP Dory Previn, the writer/composer of this song (along with her then-husband Andre Previn), at age 86. She also wrote the theme song for "Valley of the Dolls."
There is a fine appreciation of her in the New York Times. Go to the Times' website and and in Dory Previn in the search box.
Reminds me of the out-of-state road trips I would take with my family in the late 1960's as a child, in the back of my dad's gigantic station wagon, cramped with luggage, with a blanket over me, and the car radio on, back to my hometown to visit relatives for Christmas. Fun times long gone...
Is there any way you could please post Autumn Afternoon from that same Sandpipers album? That song means so much to me and I can't find it anywhere else. Thanks so much.
This song came out while I was in Vietnam and I used to daydream, when sharing a little down time, to this tune. I really miss this type of music. Today's music has completely gone to the pits. We'll probably never hear music like this again in my life time.
I was 9-10 years old and this song I heard after my VERY FIRST childhood "love" turned me down! Sad, but a definate milestone (played on my little radio in Orlando, Florida)!
@emeraldandsapphire I can relate, even now. This song is melancholy and so appropriate for how I fell right now with someone leaving my life. Yet someone else unobtainable for me. We only just began to get to know each other and bam, snapped away from me as usual.
I'm 25, and my parents would have the Sandpipers and other groups from that ear playing on the record player during the day when I was young. Beautiful song...although, it really sounds like a lot of hymns for a Catholic guitar Mass from that era, too.
@kap3181 HEY THERE!! Saturday morning is one of the most awesome songs ever. I can feel your heartache, believe me. It seems like every thing now is about PURE VANITY, money and who cares stuff. Without the heart being present, to me, it means nothing period. Keep on truckin and please DON'T EVER GIVE UP.Hope to hear from you someday. I have got a jillion songs stuck in my heart, just dying to come out. Sincerely, Sgt. Ronald J. Campbell USA Ret.
I try...not to get too frustrated, but it's hard not to when my girlfriend and her kids sing along to some "great" new song on the radio (to the left, to the left, or whatever the f that new song was! lol)
Don't know if you've heard this song before:
youtube.com/watch?v=Z3AuiVbXI9w (Jose Feliciano, "Last Thing On My Mind").
I just did and I put it on par with Come Saturday Morning.
Takes me back to my first girlfriend Jody, her old white 1970 duster car the musty smell of the interior. Going away to a mountian retreat and picnic. her laugh calling me bratty and the joy of those memories of her..........Those long ago weekends.
Running through the Santa Cruz mountains with my Aussie Shepherd Bo, and Jamie in my heart.
1969 and first kisses.
The old bottle dump on Branciforte Dr and catching crawdads under Granite Creek bridge. I still remember Jamie on horseback with her long flowing hair.
1969 was a calm time period. Great memories.

@kap3181 good question, kap. don't forget that old standard, "who let the dogs out"
dkurz10156 1 year ago
@kap3181 Because we all fell asleep in the arms of our ego and lost much
of our humanity. And we built an altar to our god, MONEY!
Remember when people were humans and not political talking points.
Our society doesn't deserve better than the Jonas Brothers or Justin
Bieber. Before you point any more fingers, look in the mirror,
we have become 'werewolves'~~~~~~and we are getting what
we deserve, in other words, fuck us!!!!!!

@fntime Hey, 'I' had nothing to do with the Jonas Brothers!!! (But I do follow your point.)
