if ur one of the people who think this wont work then ur wrong even if u tryed it in a fight because this or any other move will need a guy who really have mastered it it needs timing, speed, and payn attinion
Or I could parry his punch with my arm, put my arm around his throat, put my right foot behind him and pull hard to the ground, it's gonna hurt more and people wont say I see too much Jackie Chan movies :)
The main idea of the this move, as Master Wang has pointed out, is to grab and pull the attacker's hand backward and down, thus off-balancing the attacker and shifting the attacker's weight to the front leg. With less weight on the rear leg, its easy to lift someone off their foot.
BTW, the attacker in the video was not simply "making a flip". He's clearly countering the move by following through Master Wang's counter-attack by flipping away to safety lest he'll faceplant to the floor.
it might work if you're really really fast and have a very good timing, i personally wouldn't recommend this technique for self-defense. If your attacker is nearly sleeping when trying to punch you, you may do it, otherwise it couldn't work.
the parry was too overexagerated. move to the left and punch him straight in the chin, it's more effective, he'll either black out or die, but whatevs, he who attacks deserves to die xD
The first part of this move works (blocking and moving to the left) But look at the stance after he moves to the left, he's wide open, I would go the cat stance in close and attack from there.
You can't just do this, you need experience to naturally do this. Also, to follow through with this attack, you need to have a lot of upper body strength to make him loose his balance like that and at the same time to lift up his body by his knee.
In short words, this is impractical to the average fighter.
It looks cool, but I haven't seen anything like this in MMA. Of course, they don't throw your average bar room drunks(a.k.a. the most belligerent ppl) at MMA fighters where this could possibly work, but this still seems more theory than practice.
People seem to view this in a very amateur way. This is broken down, it is basically one motion which is directed. This isn't something you consider doing when you think a punch might be coming, this is the reason for the form training. You train your mind to use these resources instinctively, in actual use it should be as if you were merely an observer. It is not a way of thinking which fits with competition fighting. If you felt it, you'd understand.
What if the opponent is a three hundred pound bruiser. I'm not just going to outright dsimiss this but it seems too fine motor skills dependent to me. Just my opinion.
how about block, then knock they ass clean out?quick hard punch to the face or something? who's gonna really stand still and let you flip their legs? nice for show in class, but on the street...nu huh.
Okay,I just criticized one of this dudes videos, after this comment I'm leaving.Maybe it's just me,but I think the torso would be a way easier target than the arm and leg.Still be fast, but just push up & over near the belt buckle and back & down near his shoulders.& as for the "Genetically built in Right Jab" mumbo,I hate throwing punches because I learned early on that busts my knuckles more than his ribs,so I'm now genetically built to kick you in the back of the ankle or in the ear.
even the side step is enough to provide you other options than that, you could use a simple push at various spots.. once you get at the outer side of your opponent he's vulnerable.
Believe it or not, the overhand right is genetically programmed into an opponent who is not entering the fight with a clear mind. This person is usually the one instigating or starting the fight, so unless you are fighting a disciplined opponent, you can almost always count on that right hand coming out 1st. Or left if you are a southpaw like me =]
retracting your arm after throwing a punch is a skill that involves lots of training. I boxed for 9 years -- one of my bad habits when i first started boxing was not bringing my right back fast enough. I have seen a few street fights where one untrained person threw a crappy right and left it out too long causing the other person to get under him (if he missed) and take him to the ground. however, leaving your arm out is not a crazy amount of time but it is enough time to be countered.
Bros I agree. I train Muay-Thai and some BJJ. Most people do not realize all the mechanics behind throwing a simple cross from the start, to striking and bring it back ready for any number of other strikes. The simple art rotation, timing, etc.. take a long time learn. (For me anyways)
Bruce Lee - I fear not the man who has practiced 10000 kicks once, but I fear the man who has practiced one kick 10000 times.
At the moment I am concentrating on Jab/Cross, Cut kick for the next 3 months.
Not really, if you get into the habit of bringing your right or left back to face and keep your mits up you'll be fine. At first you'll be thinking about it but the more you practice it will become second nature. Plus, you want to make your arms strong. Do some weight training and some calesthenics to build up the muscles in your arms and shoulders. How many fights did you have? I used to box in the amateurs.
you have to have some insane reflexes and a clear mind to do this in a fight... u can't be mad cause then all u think about is hurting the other opponent and if u stay calm in a fight and don't do anything stupid then there is a good possibility that u will win... keep this in mind
very robotic and a side step is not quicker than a punch, the punch will be at you before you side step, hence this move in realtime against a real fast punch wont be effective
i mean im no martial arts expert [even tho i wanna be] but i doubt it would go down like that cause what if the opponnet throws a straight jab i dont think that would work
This is very obviously not a counter to a jab. It's more so of a counter for a "haymaker" - most of the fights I've seen don't really throw jabs, because most people aren't trained in martial arts, they throw KO punches that swing pretty wildly. So you're right, it definitely wouldn't work against a jab - however it is an applicable technique if practiced enough, and like all techniques, it has its time and place.
To be fair, it could work especially if the guy is unexpected. Nevertheless a guy being pulled forward given he is really attacking would only have his back leg stumbling forward against your hand, which might actually give you the momentum to send him spinning if your hand is strong enough. I don't see how this is not possible seeing as to there are similar judo throws grabbing at the crotch area. If its impractical its only because its difficult initially and training has to be done.
In fact that same principle of same momentum for some of you ignorant people out there is the basis for loads of method a tai chi master "seal" your qi by having you in a position of stasis even though you move, the noteable one being in grabbing an extended leg and an opposite arm and when he retracts the leg back your hand follows his leg while the other hand pulls his body forwards such that his strength from balance is not improved. Just like a puppet. The concept is the key beyond technique
In the demo move he grabs the elbow, very thick part, when he gives the explanation move he grabs the wrist near the hand. I wonder which it is, things like this make a grave difference since thats what Gong fu is all about; the little things.
I am training wing chun kung fu 3 days a week. I know that we hit in a very close range.. we dont bend over to hit, we have them at the range where the knee cant touch, and the feets cant kick.. So theese punches are very wrong trained. You should just stand in front and then hit. Much more effective.
''looooooooool i love when ppl says dat dat this only works on their little sister ahah its TRUE !!! lol '' I am agree with those peopl.. But there are good techniwues f they only would have worked
I agree with most people that this technique has a low chance of success or most people will not choose to use this technique mainly because it is just not very effective. in that situation it is almost a guaranteed win as soon as he avoided the punch and attacked the side of the head.
however from the beginning of the clip i get the impression that this man is showing choreographing techniques. i think this would look great in a choreographed fight. there is no need for ridicule

first off all this wont work in a real fight. and that monkey is jumping before he even tryes to flip him.. go back to the filming of the shitmovie you make back in the jungle duuuuude!
Your funny. and a waste of time but I have a little time to kill so I figured I would respond to you...
Ive been training for over 25 years and I have whipped the butts of guys twice my size and I have been crushed by guys half my size. Its all about skill...You most likely have no skills and should probably just stick to being a tough guy in the comment world...So you don't hurt ; )
this guy would take u guy down if u would try to fight him don't ever make fun of people ku fu it call self defense ku fu would take street fighting down.
after the attacker throws his punch, he freezes in position, whether to demonstrate the technique or what i dont know, but thats not what angry punch throwing people do. so practical, hmm not sure...
bad counter attack, for one the guy showing it doesnt even do what he tells us to do, the man getting flipped is obv. jumping. The guy flipping him doesn't pull him forward to get him off balance, when he shows it in the fast motion that part of the counter is non existent. once you've evaded the punch, and parryd there are a number of more practical things to do. E.g once you have hold of his arm lock it behind his back, or twist under or more simply smash him in his face lol.
This guy is probably capable of getting the technique on an inexperienced fighter. Even if he doesn't get the technique he doesn't lose anything, because he's got the guy flanked and probably off balance.
I agree with the posters who say they prefer shorter more high percentage techniques after the attacker misses a punch.
No disrespect to the presenter, the guy obviously knows how to defend himself, but it's not a technique I would try.
this move only work if the person throws a haymaker. makes it low percentage, but none the less it would still work. and personally experience says none trained fighter do not have foot work, and throw hard and deep trying to take your head off, so that makes this technique a possible option.
Most *inexperienced* fighters won't see it coming and will (like wayoftheforesthand said) throw stupid punches that leave them off balance and open for whatever you do when you block it. I don't know about pulling that person's leg in the air, but it's easier just to pull them in the direction of the punch then elbow them in the face. They'll be out for a while.
Block with your left and then headbut or palm strike, open up the guys centre and lay into him.
Learn the psychology of violence the moron who is trying to hit you just wants you to submit through fear to make himself feel better because he feels powerless.
Read Konrad Lorenz's book On Aggression like Bruce Lee did.
Speaking practically, I don't think this would work (at least not as you see in the video. If you were to get anything close to this he'd probably do a face plant though :oD) but it's still cool as hell.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
nest time somebody gets within arms length punc them with all your might in the eye and as they bend foward knee them in the solar plexus. as soon as they fall stomp them near death. then just walk away without speaking a word. every1 including this person who finds out about this will fear you with such fear that they will be super nice to you. they might bring you cookies and stuff.
hahahhahha whos going to throw a punch which allows u to grab his arm spin him over on his anus! This is great for films Jackie Chan maybe but not Street Fights. Good fun though
hehehe... in streetfights u gotta tym ur attack... if he opens himself by throwing a punch at u and u know that u can execute this move... try it... ^_^ i know i did.. we practice this n aikido
This could work. The move is shown with incorrect timing, presumably to illustrate what is going on. The catch comes a split second before the punch would have landed and the throw happens at the same time -no time to retract.
If you enter correctly and the opponent DOES retract, then you are still in a pretty good position to lock up or counter-punch.
i suppose this would give hope to someone being bullied at school, but the reality is that this is just pure bollocks. there's no room for what would happen in the real world at all. this should not be taken seriously at all.
The move is good to practice. I have many years in wing chun and found that you take in what you can use for yourself and leave out what you can't. Some people can make this move happen very nicely when other can not. Find who you are when you learn to dance this way.
This is more of a "show move" than anything. The "attacker" is not restrained and can quickly get back up, or attack while on his back. It's still overly difficult to pull off (at speed) and won't deliver enough impact to help you.
What they fail to demonstrate here is that the guy is going to be moving very fast towards you when that attack is executed. That is why that circular movement will work. I know this because I have done it numerous times in training. I have done Tae kwon do, Tang Soo Do, Hapkido, Shoalin Longfist Kungfu, and Kenpo Karate.
These techniques do work, the movies are just a way of making it fancier, but regarding if this techinique is done correctly, it can be really effective.
Hey don't knock this stuff! I think it's great to get a look at "movie martial arts" and how far from the "real thing" this stuff is now.BTW, right after the deflection/grab you know you'd arm-bar that arm or break it.
he pauses between his grab and throw so he dosnt actully hurt the guy throwing the punch because of the momentium if they were actully fighting the one being countered would hit the ground hard
to expand on nathancfma's comment, if u feel like it u can just lift the 280 pound guy's right leg then just give him a forward push, that would be easier ^^, then you can punch him how many times u wish
or just run away. or u can make him roll rather than flip him by just moving his right leg slightly forward from you and then lift the leg higher making him roll.
it will work im a black belt in kung fu and liwungji im also great in gymnastics and a guy in my college punched me in back on neck and other day he tried to bunch me in face so i grabbed his "elbow" and threw it up and put my put behind is right knee at the back of it and pulled him back on the ground thenput my knee in his gut and waited for the faculty of my college to come and take care of him
WHEN U R READING THIS DONT STOP OR SOMETHING BAD WILL HAPPEN MY NAME IS SUMMER I AM 15 YEARS OLD i have BLONDE HAIR , SCARS no NOSE OR EARS I AM DEAD IF U DONT COPY THIS JUS LIKE FROM THE RING COPY N POST THIS ON 5 MORE SITES OR I WILL APPEAR ONE CREEPY NIGHT WEN UR NOT ExPECTING IT BY YOUR BED WITH A NIFE AND KILL U THIS IS NO JOKE SUMMET ING GOOD WILL HAPPEN TO U IF YOU POST THIS ON 5 MORE FLASH BOXES
doesn´t look realistic. if somebody wants to punch me he won´t announce it first. you might have time to block the punch or to dodge but defintley not enough time to pull a fancy trick like this. he´d pull his hand back quickly anyway.
your right but also you dont have to pull fancy tricks like this. when your in the position where you have a hold of their wrist after they throw the punch, their elbow is exposed and you can break it.
actually this technique does work in real life... ive my friends and i were watchin this and decided 2 try it.. eventually we got it down so well that we could just have a random friend attempt a full speed punch and do it... it just takes practice to get the muscle memory and speed...
but yes in real fights with this type of punch i parry similarly, but then take a hard shot at the airways instead... that always gives me a huge advantage and position to end a fight quickly...
if ur one of the people who think this wont work then ur wrong even if u tryed it in a fight because this or any other move will need a guy who really have mastered it it needs timing, speed, and payn attinion

There is far too much movement from the Kung-Fu practitioner to be even a little practical for any average fighter.

Your funny. and a waste of time but I have a little time to kill so I figured I would respond to you...
Ive been training for over 25 years and I have whipped the butts of guys twice my size and I have been crushed by guys half my size. Its all about skill...You most likely have no skills and should probably just stick to being a tough guy in the comment world...So you don't hurt ; )

after the attacker throws his punch, he freezes in position, whether to demonstrate the technique or what i dont know, but thats not what angry punch throwing people do. so practical, hmm not sure...

This is weak. Not enought strength to move the leg if you are weak.
jeezyfan23 3 years ago
when you pull his hand down you can match this verry simple
TSMPeterZwegat 3 years ago
bad counter attack, for one the guy showing it doesnt even do what he tells us to do, the man getting flipped is obv.
LETZZERO 3 years ago
if you really use this, you won't flip the guy, but you could just "lock" his leg and pull his arm to trow him with the belly to the ground

lol, when an oppent punches you, you will dodge left and parry wiht your right....ten seonds later you will then.....another ten seconds later...etc
004308 3 years ago
This guy is probably capable of getting the technique on an inexperienced fighter. Even if he doesn't get the technique he doesn't lose anything, because he's got the guy flanked and probably off balance.
I agree with the posters who say they prefer shorter more high percentage techniques after the attacker misses a punch.
No disrespect to the presenter, the guy obviously knows how to defend himself, but it's not a technique I would try.

It wouldnt work. It looks like a fancy way of attracting students.
Anybody who throws a rear right hand from that distance doesnt know how to fight anyway.
So the technique is bullshit.

i do not see this working in the streets
AT ALL
very IMPRACTICAL
what makes you think your opponent will just stand there while u parry to wherever, and let u do all this crazy shit to him while he's not moving??
Heyken17 3 years ago
this move only work if the person throws a haymaker. makes it low percentage, but none the less it would still work. and personally experience says none trained fighter do not have foot work, and throw hard and deep trying to take your head off, so that makes this technique a possible option.
wayoftheforesthand 3 years ago
Most *inexperienced* fighters won't see it coming and will (like wayoftheforesthand said) throw stupid punches that leave them off balance and open for whatever you do when you block it. I don't know about pulling that person's leg in the air, but it's easier just to pull them in the direction of the punch then elbow them in the face. They'll be out for a while.
ViciousSK 3 years ago
Block with your left and then headbut or palm strike, open up the guys centre and lay into him.
Learn the psychology of violence the moron who is trying to hit you just wants you to submit through fear to make himself feel better because he feels powerless.

it is a good move, personally i attack the arm after the parry, would this work if the opponet is stronger/bigger than you.
s10fisto01 3 years ago
Speaking practically, I don't think this would work (at least not as you see in the video. If you were to get anything close to this he'd probably do a face plant though :oD) but it's still cool as hell.

nest time somebody gets within arms length punc them with all your might in the eye and as they bend foward knee them in the solar plexus. as soon as they fall stomp them near death. then just walk away without speaking a word. every1 including this person who finds out about this will fear you with such fear that they will be super nice to you. they might bring you cookies and stuff.

hahahhahha whos going to throw a punch which allows u to grab his arm spin him over on his anus! This is great for films Jackie Chan maybe but not Street Fights. Good fun though

Asuka Kazama from Tekken series has this move as a reversal;)
Dodging it and parring punch at same time? even if, too much of mobility is needed for novice. If I'm not mistaken, this is Aikido?
TaoKun 4 years ago
And if your the striker, you got your other arm avalible unless you are stuck by two doing it at the same time XD
Leon4568 4 years ago
could you imagine seeing a real fight where someone got thown like that? that shiz would be amazing
Medium0Rare 4 years ago
This could work. The move is shown with incorrect timing, presumably to illustrate what is going on. The catch comes a split second before the punch would have landed and the throw happens at the same time -no time to retract.
If you enter correctly and the opponent DOES retract, then you are still in a pretty good position to lock up or counter-punch.
seadawg93 4 years ago
i suppose this would give hope to someone being bullied at school, but the reality is that this is just pure bollocks. there's no room for what would happen in the real world at all. this should not be taken seriously at all.
nonanimal 4 years ago
The move is good to practice. I have many years in wing chun and found that you take in what you can use for yourself and leave out what you can't. Some people can make this move happen very nicely when other can not. Find who you are when you learn to dance this way.
randy13209 4 years ago 2
are there more video's like this one because its needfull for me to make fighting choreography
Madskiller 4 years ago
This is more of a "show move" than anything. The "attacker" is not restrained and can quickly get back up, or attack while on his back. It's still overly difficult to pull off (at speed) and won't deliver enough impact to help you.
Merranvo 4 years ago
Good concept, but it only works if you got hella fast reflexes
HR509 4 years ago
What they fail to demonstrate here is that the guy is going to be moving very fast towards you when that attack is executed. That is why that circular movement will work. I know this because I have done it numerous times in training. I have done Tae kwon do, Tang Soo Do, Hapkido, Shoalin Longfist Kungfu, and Kenpo Karate.

he jumped in the case when he did that most ppl are heavy
seahawkxX 4 years ago
Im afraid i have to agree,
a: A good fighter withdraws his arm just as fast as his punch
b, youll risc getting a kick in your face, its way faster to change stance and lean on the other leg,,, than to extend your arm and lift is leg.

Lesson 2: Counter-Attacking A Punch
As your opponent throws the punch perform 6 lightning speed backflips followed by a semi-acoustic cartwheel over the moon while dodging his ICBMs.
Next use your left arse cheek to throw him to the floor from there you must quickly travel the seven seas.
And that is how to counter attack a punch...

Hey don't knock this stuff! I think it's great to get a look at "movie martial arts" and how far from the "real thing" this stuff is now.BTW, right after the deflection/grab you know you'd arm-bar that arm or break it.
wulfyson 4 years ago
lol i say u go for the punch at the same time and hope ur arms are longer!
koeyyy 4 years ago
he pauses between his grab and throw so he dosnt actully hurt the guy throwing the punch because of the momentium if they were actully fighting the one being countered would hit the ground hard
killdwarves 4 years ago
why does he take a pause between the grab and the throw.
wouldnt it be easier, and more effective to do it in one fluid movement?
spencerawr 4 years ago
Ummm question what if it a 280 pound guy? What then.
SleepingWolf26 4 years ago
doesn't matter how heavy is your opponent are, what he did is simply changing the direction of his opponent force
nathancfma 4 years ago
to expand on nathancfma's comment, if u feel like it u can just lift the 280 pound guy's right leg then just give him a forward push, that would be easier ^^, then you can punch him how many times u wish
or just run away. or u can make him roll rather than flip him by just moving his right leg slightly forward from you and then lift the leg higher making him roll.

it will work im a black belt in kung fu and liwungji im also great in gymnastics and a guy in my college punched me in back on neck and other day he tried to bunch me in face so i grabbed his "elbow" and threw it up and put my put behind is right knee at the back of it and pulled him back on the ground thenput my knee in his gut and waited for the faculty of my college to come and take care of him

doesn´t look realistic. if somebody wants to punch me he won´t announce it first. you might have time to block the punch or to dodge but defintley not enough time to pull a fancy trick like this. he´d pull his hand back quickly anyway.
yyyboy 4 years ago
your right but also you dont have to pull fancy tricks like this. when your in the position where you have a hold of their wrist after they throw the punch, their elbow is exposed and you can break it.
poohead1421 4 years ago
true, you could break his arm easily. you could do all sorts of things in that situation and a throw like that seems to be the most senseless.
yyyboy 4 years ago
actually this technique does work in real life... ive my friends and i were watchin this and decided 2 try it.. eventually we got it down so well that we could just have a random friend attempt a full speed punch and do it... it just takes practice to get the muscle memory and speed...
but yes in real fights with this type of punch i parry similarly, but then take a hard shot at the airways instead... that always gives me a huge advantage and position to end a fight quickly...
bobsaget2329 4 years ago
looks like a lot of hate for this video on here! i gotta agree tho, you cant do that for real on d streets. also, wat, u pick fights to practice?!
