  • Did I just trip balls?

    haha awesome song

  • les is a fucking genius

  • @cusso74 It's a shame this comment got so many thumbs up. It takes a real moron to think "the man" is ruining radio. Radio plays what pays, it's all about ratings. Unfortunately, this shit doesn't sell. Not because "the man" said so, but because it simply doesn't appeal to most people. They appeal to the majority, not your weird preferences. Of course, a year is a long time and by now you've probably grown up enough to see what's wrong with what you said.

  • @ButtsexV2 this conformist claptrap from someone who calls himself Buttsex. lol

  • @pacree I'm not a conformist by any means, but I'm not so sheltered I don't know how the world works. I'm the sort of pothead weirdo that this sort of music is targeted at, hardly your average sheep.

The thing is, what he said is wrong. It's not profitable to play prog noise, people want a catchy beat and a chorus that this doesn't deliver. it has nothing to do with some invisible amorphous system that controls our lives and our minds. If you want to fight, fight money, it controls the radio.

  • what show is this????? it is EXCELLENT!

  • @xlxDaGxlx This is from Bonnaroo 2002, I believe. You can get the entirety of Les' set, or at least most of it, on his DVD "5 Gallons of Diesel".

  • @cusso74 It's your (probably not you personally) own DAMN fault for being such a fucking free-market extremist!

When musicians make music... When writer write books... When filmmakers create movies... When people create art... profit should NOT be a fucking priority!!!

  • Les has been my hero since I was 11 (in 1990).

He's the reason I started learning playing the bass.

But then I got kicked out of my band when I was 12 cos I was a girl and I got so sad I quit playing all together.

  • @niminiminimnim That's so sad :/ There really is something surprisingly enchanting about a woman playing the acoustic bass... Those damn boybands, ruining music with their only-existing goals of making money!!

Look at the bright side: You probably would've ended up doing hard drugs. Still, there's no reason to give it up if you don't want to! I started playing piano when I was 20 (and had never played before. Perhaps briefly a very few (like 8) times...), and now, as almost 22, I'm a demon!! :O

  • Notice the Critters Buggin sticker on Dillon's drum. Everyone if you havent already, LOOK UP CRITTERS BUGGIN. if you like this, then critters is for you.

  • does anyone know what the name of the last song played in this video?

  • @blinkiblis apart the little atmospheric jam at the VEEERRRY end, the last song is called: Granny's Little Yard Gnome. Its from the album: highball with the devil.

  • @cusso74 I'd say both Les Claypool and Mike Patton are the best of this era

  • 4 people were so stupefied they hit dislike by axident

  • Claypool is my generations zappa.

  • Whats the title of that last track? can't recognize it...

  • @gururiise Granny's little yard gnome. from highball with the devil.

  • Goddamn Boy! Tear That Sax UP!

  • says "social head, leopard led" at 2:19 rather then "oysterhead, zeppelin led"....

  • @cusso74

Seriously? Think. You know why it's not on "the radio". "The radio" is about money, not art or music. Why in the world would these guys be on it? Those who do what Simon says don't deserve music like this...

Are you sure you just didn't want an excuse to use some dirty words, and exercise freedom of speech?

  • This is about the best Eva'! Les Claypool is my favorite genious!

  • Hy look its les in the front row at 01:00 !

  • this SUCKS!!!

    and I love it..

  • Skerik for president!

  • Is this from a dvd? I want it.

  • @Zhim74

5 gallons of diesel is the name of the dvd

  • im guessing this is from the flying frog brigade

  • The instrument the guy is playing in the second song, the little can he shoves his fist into, its a brazillian instrument called a cuíca (kwee-ka) also known as a friction drum.

  • try watching this high, you won't believe it

  • what was that third song?

  • @YouNeverMind00 granny's little yard gnome

  • @cusso74 Nice!

  • @cusso74

    hahahahaaaa

  • what kind of instrument is les playing in the second song (or second part of the jam if you wanna call it that)

  • @blacksquirrel963 It's called a whamola

  • Dah da da da dah da.

  • @cusso74

Radio plays the hits. 90% of radio listeners want to hear the hits.

    It's higher with women listeners.

That's why you don't hear this on the radio.

  • @cusso74 WHY so much language?? 4 wordy dirts??? What would your mom think about all that?

  • what the last guy said...ditto every word...Claypool and his bandmates are FUCKING AWESOME!!!!

TOP 40 SUXS WITH LADY GAGA HEADING UP THE LIP LIZARDS!!!!!

  • name of last song??

  • @makeshiftenemy Granny's little yard gnome

  • les will posses my mind to the grave...I don't recognize him unmasked...Is that the "guitar playing redwood" from Frog's Brig? Saw FFB do the whole Animals set in NYC...see you in NJ with primus...thanks for comming back so soon...

  • BAD ASS!

  • Whats that thing at 8:27 ?

  • Comment removed

  • @cellerfullofpopcicle @cellerfullofpopcicle That's a "whamola", which is sort of an electronic version of a washtub bass. It's a single bass string attached to a giant whammy bar, with a fretless fingerboard, an electric bass pickup, and it's played with a drumstick.

  • @cellerfullofpopcicle Wait, I went to 8:37, not 8:27. Not sure that thing is actually an official instrument, it looks like a modified drum.

  • @fluzwup not the whamola, the thing the guys shoving his fist into

  • @cusso74 My guess is the people listening to this can't stop listening to this music for long enough to start a radio station.

  • @cusso74

you don't hear it on the radio because 95% of all listeners want the hits.

    It's the frustrating truth.

  • Awesome, great, genius Claypool.

  • sounds like nothing else. not even close.

  • @cusso74

Man, like, the corporations, man...they are like, controlling our thought man. How do we fight them? By like, smoking pot, and listening to jam bands, man!!

  • I'm 21 years old and it makes me sad that people my age have never even heard of Les Claypool!!

  • if you close your eyes and just listen it sounds like an awesome soundtrack to any one of those African adventure flicks from the mid-20th cent. he has bridged experimental jazz and pop. The guy is the Zappa of our time. And ya gotta dig the pith helmet!

  • numie nummie nummie.....and then there was another m....:O

  • whos that on the drum set?

  • If u guys like this checkout (five mins of frog brigade)

  • the percussionist looks a little les insane without his goggles on

  • doserhead lemonlead.

  • I assume this is from Bonnaroo 2002?

  • this is brilliant. thank you les for all your hard work to bring us the music we love to hear from you

  • claypool for president!

  • les couldnt get better

  • that saxophone shamen guy is awesome

  • Grannys little YEEEAAAARD gnome. Love that song.

  • 2:03 claypool fumbles! HE IS HUMAN!!!

  • Nay, young Hunterwibush. He may have made a fumble, but he is still far beyond human...

  • He only fumbled so that we would belive that he was human. It's a trick!

  • @TarpTrap

    Hahaha!! Indeed.

  • im fuckin goin to the new years eve show

    im so stoked

  • I'm coming to your show in Eugene in February! Gonna be fucking awesome!!!!!! Can't wait!

  • @craziness5932 Ill be there too!!!

  • Awesome!!!

  • Cant wait!!

  • this video kicks ass! cant wait to see you in Eugene!!

  • Alright who is the beast guitarist in the beginning of this video, I have figured out the rest of the band, but this man escapes me. Anyone have a clue?

  • is that the southpark theme song around 6:00

  • it's not the southpark theme, but it basically is the bassline.

  • no i checked, its the southpark theme.

  • Only the bassline is.

  • @frewms its called whamola and trey parker and matt stone decided to dub it over the original theme by primus

  • The song is called Whamola, based around the instrument Les is playing called a whamola that he invented, basically a bass string attached to a whammy paddle at the top, and then South Park modified it for the the new theme of the show.

  • i knew lessy wrote the theme song, didn know hes used the "whamola"

  • @abjafriggitywhoo He didn't reeeeally invent it.

Well, he did I suppose, but it's just an electric version of a cigarbox bass that people used to make instead of paying for a real one.

  • so dissonant. unlike any other music.

  • universal musical perfection

  • Les is more than worthy of legend status when he passes away. He's up there with Jimi and James Brown.

  • that goose is a legend now..! hes 100% unreal, fact. and seinfeld!? i just dont know what to say.

  • Amen!!!

  • what an awesome crew of musicians on stage in that vid!! Gotta love the whamola!!

Les Claypool is and always will be my favorite musician!!

  • That's ol' Les for ya...the only guy who could try out for Metallica and be too GOOD to play bass for them. It's funny though, that he played in a popular thrash metal band called Blind illusion in the mid 80's, and he did incorporate a slight funk element to that band, although they are more straight ahead thrash metal, closer to Exodus and Testament then Chili Peppers or Fishbone. Les Claypool is in my top ten bassists EVER!

  • word

  • If i heard this on the radio i probably would not give it the time of day....j/k Les Rocks!

  • the sax is my fav!

  • Yep, that's Skerik for ya. Wish he'd been there when I saw Les!

  • yeah, why wasn't larrylalonde there?

  • what song is that at 10:20 i love that song

  • granny's little yard gnome

  • 5th time watching all of this video

    i love this stuff

  • hey i know this is dumb and maybe rude or whatever but I love les claypool and I make music thats basically just bass and vocals and I would love to know what fans of his think.

  • hes lyrics are odd thats why we love him

  • is this really from march 2009? with eanor and the crazy drummer? and the old Holy Mackeral guitarist? is he taking those guys on tour nowadays or something?

  • It's from Bonnaroo 02 or 03

  • god this song is awesome

  • Les you are n. 1!

  • This song makes me giggle, one of my top favorites

  • can anyone tell me what the hell this song is about? lol

  • getting old. the term long in the tooth refers to a horse as it gets older its teeth apear long because the gums recede. thus I'll take my dirty with a splash of vermouth (martini) i kinda like being long in the tooth!

  • pace bass

  • ahh dude Les get rid of that Vneck, not cool man, love everything else you do though, such an inspiration, fa sho.

  • I'm kinda new to Les' music. So can someone tell what band that is onstage with him?

  • les has been doing alotta touring with people like matisyahu, the jewish rapper. he's also recently played with buckethead (if you dont know him, i'd consider looking him up). but his band is primus, which inlcudes him, les claypool, tim alexander, and larry lallonde.

  • I know buckethead. I only heard the song by Primus called the devil went down to Geargia.

  • The Flying Frog Brigade?

  • That dude's electric guitar is so badass!!!!!

  • to meanjeandj: its a delay pedal that reverses the delay. not a didgeridoo.

  • les claypool is the best bass player ever

  • whats the name of the song after whamola?

  • grannies little yard gnome from the highball with the devil album

  • Les Claypool is a musical genius!

  • hahaha i have this dvd its so amazing!

  • Les' hat, it's a must have for those who go to tours anywhere, especially when the show requires you to go on safari.

  • Anybody know if Skerik and Eenor are on Les' current tour?

  • Is there a Didgeridoo at the start?

  • I am so stoked to see Les in Omaha... its only going to be 3000 people, and last I heard there were TONS of tickets left. Anchor Inn is a SMALL venue, right on the missouri river. Should be one of the best stops on the tour... LES RULES!!

  • my favorite saxaphonist, he is amazing.

  • Last night in Calgary ...an awesome show! Eargasmic. : P

  • anybody notice he's using the "rainbow bass"?

  • 10:27...from les claypool and the holy makerel, highball with thedevil. "Grannies little yard gnome".

  • yes it is Tim Alexander

  • "WHO'S GONNA DO WHAT SIMON SAYS?!!" i cant wait for hookahville!!! this is gonna be great!!!

  • GREAT!

  • what the hell is the can thing at 8:14

  • theres a lil thing in the center you rub with wet fingers and the skin on the back is pushed like to change the sound

  • F ing great love the whamola

  • F ing great

  • Granny's little yard gnome is so sick! no one can sound like Skerik... not to mention les...

  • The first two songs are from Colonel Les Claypool's Fearless Flying Frog Brigade, "Long in the tooth" and "Whamola". Then comes a couple of extracts from the 5 gallons of diesel DVD featuring Holly Mackerel. It's pretty hard to keep track of all the projects he is into specially when he plays songs from other projects such as Oysterhead and Sausage with whoever is playing at the time. Pretty amazing!!

  • All of the stuff on this youtube vid is Frog Brigade, the last sets are just with Brian Kehoe as the guitarist. Only the first two songs are Frog Brigade songs though

  • GRANNYS LITTLE YARD GNOME why doesnt the title say that?

  • none of you have any idea...

  • It's nice to see some official videos up on youtube.

  • LOVE the Eenor days.

  • I miss the days when Primus was in its prime! Les Claypool always puts on a good show though.

  • amazing!
