@cusso74 It's a shame this comment got so many thumbs up. It takes a real moron to think "the man" is ruining radio. Radio plays what pays, it's all about ratings. Unfortunately, this shit doesn't sell. Not because "the man" said so, but because it simply doesn't appeal to most people. They appeal to the majority, not your weird preferences. Of course, a year is a long time and by now you've probably grown up enough to see what's wrong with what you said.
@pacree I'm not a conformist by any means, but I'm not so sheltered I don't know how the world works. I'm the sort of pothead weirdo that this sort of music is targeted at, hardly your average sheep.
The thing is, what he said is wrong. It's not profitable to play prog noise, people want a catchy beat and a chorus that this doesn't deliver. it has nothing to do with some invisible amorphous system that controls our lives and our minds. If you want to fight, fight money, it controls the radio.
@cusso74 It's your (probably not you personally) own DAMN fault for being such a fucking free-market extremist!
When musicians make music... When writer write books... When filmmakers create movies... When people create art... profit should NOT be a fucking priority!!!
@niminiminimnim That's so sad :/ There really is something surprisingly enchanting about a woman playing the acoustic bass... Those damn boybands, ruining music with their only-existing goals of making money!!
Look at the bright side: You probably would've ended up doing hard drugs. Still, there's no reason to give it up if you don't want to! I started playing piano when I was 20 (and had never played before. Perhaps briefly a very few (like 8) times...), and now, as almost 22, I'm a demon!! :O
Notice the Critters Buggin sticker on Dillon's drum. Everyone if you havent already, LOOK UP CRITTERS BUGGIN. if you like this, then critters is for you.
@blinkiblis apart the little atmospheric jam at the VEEERRRY end, the last song is called: Granny's Little Yard Gnome. Its from the album: highball with the devil.
Seriously? Think. You know why it's not on "the radio". "The radio" is about money, not art or music. Why in the world would these guys be on it? Those who do what Simon says don't deserve music like this...
Are you sure you just didn't want an excuse to use some dirty words, and exercise freedom of speech?
The instrument the guy is playing in the second song, the little can he shoves his fist into, its a brazillian instrument called a cuíca (kwee-ka) also known as a friction drum.
les will posses my mind to the grave...I don't recognize him unmasked...Is that the "guitar playing redwood" from Frog's Brig? Saw FFB do the whole Animals set in NYC...see you in NJ with primus...thanks for comming back so soon...
@cellerfullofpopcicle@cellerfullofpopcicle That's a "whamola", which is sort of an electronic version of a washtub bass. It's a single bass string attached to a giant whammy bar, with a fretless fingerboard, an electric bass pickup, and it's played with a drumstick.
Man, like, the corporations, man...they are like, controlling our thought man. How do we fight them? By like, smoking pot, and listening to jam bands, man!!
if you close your eyes and just listen it sounds like an awesome soundtrack to any one of those African adventure flicks from the mid-20th cent. he has bridged experimental jazz and pop. The guy is the Zappa of our time. And ya gotta dig the pith helmet!
Alright who is the beast guitarist in the beginning of this video, I have figured out the rest of the band, but this man escapes me. Anyone have a clue?
The song is called Whamola, based around the instrument Les is playing called a whamola that he invented, basically a bass string attached to a whammy paddle at the top, and then South Park modified it for the the new theme of the show.
That's ol' Les for ya...the only guy who could try out for Metallica and be too GOOD to play bass for them. It's funny though, that he played in a popular thrash metal band called Blind illusion in the mid 80's, and he did incorporate a slight funk element to that band, although they are more straight ahead thrash metal, closer to Exodus and Testament then Chili Peppers or Fishbone. Les Claypool is in my top ten bassists EVER!
hey i know this is dumb and maybe rude or whatever but I love les claypool and I make music thats basically just bass and vocals and I would love to know what fans of his think.

Les has been my hero since I was 11 (in 1990).
He's the reason I started learning playing the bass.
But then I got kicked out of my band when I was 12 cos I was a girl and I got so sad I quit playing all together.
