This is THE BEST version of WHO IS IT - I loved this time of 12" Extended versions...nothing more exciting than buying a 12" on vinyl - putting the needle to the groove and just hearing an awesome extended mix. Mantronix were awesome.

curt once told me a story. he said that he was in a studio one day and said to the engineer, "hey let's try getting an electronic sound out of this box, and see how it sounds" and they tried it and he thought shit, we can electronify the beat. electronic music was born and the lord rested. how's that for a story??
I was 15 too - and also seriously hooked on this one. Had it on my walkman and it was rewind after rewind - no such luxury of CD or MP3 control. Pure tape. Ah - how I miss those days. The next year acid house took me over......
This sits in my record box and rarely gets an airing ..But i tell you now it kick's ass i hate cd's and mp3's ...VINYL IS FINAL.. Those were the times ..dont stop the rock and dont forget ....GET STUPID! ..B.D.B.
He was indeed..blew my grannys ears apart with bassline..and my ma was screamin..I was er 20 something then..and my children did ok listening to it made their head shake a little..times may have altered..he was one the of best at the time..thankx..
MANTRONIX ..... puts to shame ALL THESE FAKE AZZ production DJs / Producers / Beat Makers of today ..... While these guyz COPY each other - KURTIS MANTRONIK CREATED HIS OWN STYLE & FLAVA THAT STILL STANDS TODAY ........
MUCH RESPECT MANTRONIK
MADD LUV TO M.C. TEE
JUST A SMALL SHOUT TO BRYCE LUVA
...... DJ D ???? WTF? .... WHO ????? ( delete ) ......... LOL
Mad props to Mantronik, Mantronix, and Sleeping Bag Records....Just Ice and DMX, and EPMD...all Sleeping Bag artist. Mantronix "Bassline" was my 2nd Hip-Hop tape ever bought...first was "Radio"...first album was "The Fat Boys"....lol. $hit, quietly, I bought Mantronix album all the way til he went sort'a Club-ish....with that wack MC and singing group...lol.
classic - had their album on tape as a kid - school let us have gym at dinner times to practice breakdancin - windmill - freeze - who had the electro tapes ?
If you like old school Hip Hop and ELECTRO FUNK, - Did you know STREETSOUNDS ELECTRO ARE BACK? in 2009 with NU ELECTRO 1... featuring Newcleus, Egyptian Lover, B-Boys and many more, Mixed by Diplomat & Freddy Fresh (The Dream Team)
I just needed to write this.i,am from New Orleans(the dirty).and when this joint was out,you better believe mantronx shit(not only this album, but all his shit) was being played on the streets hard!!! He is the first before Florida had it,s sound, also before Mannie Fresh(New Orleans respect) had it,s sound.ALL HAIL AND SHOW RECPECT.EVEN Rick Rubin didnt get this kind of respect
Definitely the best mix of this track...thanks for posting it. And thanks to Shane S for turning me on to this track for the first time in a Geography lesson back back in the 80s!
By far my favorite mix of "Who Is It". I had the 12" single remix of many of Mantronix's songs back in the day. My daughter (who graduated high school last year) was having a discussion w/ me about Mantronix recently. She was telling me about how she was listening to some Mantronix on her iPod while riding the school bus when a boy sitting next to her asked to hear what she was listening to.She gave him her headphones and chuckled as his eyes bulged as he heard Mantronix for the first time ever.
I had this special mix and others of his back in the day. His sound was way ahead of his time. The breakdown starting at 2:39 is a beast! "Who is it?"
I love Mantronix soo much, i love MC Tee's rhymes so much. :) i wasnt alive in the early golden years of hip hop, the 80's. but i listen to old school rap, and this music all day long. n wish i cud have lived in this era. i love MC Tee's voice, and how he picks the right voice to go along with the beats. n Kurtis Mantronix is soooo fuckin sexy!
This is the best mix of this track imo. Mind you I like most of the Mantronix stuff up to "King Of The Beats", after that a bit commercial for my liking. But 1985-88 bad boy tunes :)
God, I thought I was the only one who bought "Who is it"! ( I picked mine up in a bargain bin though, 2 years later and not this "special edition" either).
keep that going mantronx!!!! always reminds me to my youth!!!
