  • She's great!

    Check out Tommy Emmanuel.

They could make a great collaboration.

  • I'd love to hear her and Les Claypool play together. That would be strings cum percussion magic.

  • what guitar is that?

  • It's an Ovation, I'm just not sure what model specifically

  • it's an adamas, got it in black...

  • i love her. if she wasn't gay i'd marry this woman.

  • is the guitar she uses in the letterman video A Rain Song?

  • Good Kaki !! Ciao..

  • I like the vid from letterman better, you don't hear all of the picking noises

  • Like midi drums notes play with guitar sounds.

  • i've seen her do it live, aint no midi about it.

  • Wow.

I think I've just fallen in love.

Sexy, talented, beautiful, and energetic. AMAZING.

  • Also a lesbian. :)

  • Is she really? That's not a terrible thing but, I'm just a little disappointed if that is indeed true.

  • Yup, she's very open about it.

    Just check Google if you don't believe me. ^_^;

  • don't worry 3074861 just turn her straight and she be all yours...

  • of coarse it's terrible, im a man and i'm madley in love with her!!!! and, yeah, it is true.

  • noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.........

  • lmao. I like her the way she is too ;)

  • oh wow. that is so hot. AMAZING. can't wait to see her live again.

  • wooohooo ovation!

  • so talented and gorgeous :)

  • what tuning is this?

  • Probably DADGAD.

  • sounds like jealousy

  • lets see you play any instrument as good as she can play a guitar

  • i just watched "August Rush" and was convinced the guitar player who actually played the kids role was Michael Hedges.. i was stunned to see it was this girl.. wow.. shes good.

  • She sounds like Phil Keaggy.

  • She is so fucking hot!!!

  • yep!

    but also an amazing guitarist!

  • she is NOT related to Andy or Justin!

  • oh kaki, they just want you to play people's eyes crazy. they are not interested in your music as long as you serve finger exercises like this - no matter what an incredible virtuoso you are.

  • I've never seen anything like this... she is amazing!! I love the bongo-like percussion she applies to the quitar, as well as the crazy steel-like use of her left hand. Creative wow, pleasure to the ears!

  • so amazing in the parts where she's actually playing the guitar... hate the smacking parts at the beginning, middle, and end though.

  • good stuff

  • Is she related to Andy McKay?

  • Andy Mckee***

And no, it's a rumor that she's related to Justin King but no one knows for sure.

  • shes fucking hot. :54-56

  • Yer a tran you dork

  • cool stuff...very entertaining,I love the rhythm

    at the beginning...

  • most haters are just jealous. ooh, it's a girl and she's better than most of us! to compensate my feelings i have to hate her now!

    damn, too bad she's lesbian.

  • dumb ass

  • she is rude

  • oh my goodness. i want to marry this woman. she's so talented and BEAUTIFUL she's just amazing. i'm really excited to see her live!

  • this video is great!!!!!!! its such a cool approach to a song,

but the rip is actually a little off with the music, if you notice there are times where her slaps are inaudible, and others when her slaps are heard but not seen, and its just this version of it.

also, thats the point, she looks bored because its supposed to be that it's easy for her

she doesnt sound like august rush, august rush sounds like her. she "Was" august rush..

she rocks, and i feel sorry for your mother if u disagree

  • MASTER JOB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! awesome!!!!!!!!!

  • Kaki King never had a Facebook page before. So I decided to start my own. Just go ahead and type in "Kaki King" in the search box and you'll see the page: "Kaki King" (obviously LOL). I want to see if King's fanbase is still out there somewhere. Long live King!

  • has anyone ever heard of john fahey? i have to say that everyone's criticisms of her were the same of john fahey. people changed their opinions decades later, but nevertheless. i think she is musically misunderstood in much the same way, if it is possible to be musically understood. i think all these music "experts" are paying too much attention to established music theory and aren't letting their imaginations get the better of them. and this is why i hate going into guitar center.

  • This reminds me August Rush, but I think this is pretty cool. Her expression looks bored though, lol.

  • cause she performed as August's hands and played his guitar parts

  • of course, she can do this in her sleep :)

  • this reminds me of August Rush.

  • For the record, she doesn't just over indulge in technical playing. She also sings and plays simply arranged songs that are very good.

I think the people who leave negative comments feel threatened or something, as if her technical prowess will devalue you as a man or musician.

Simplicity is art and it's beautiful.

    So is this

    Peace and Love

  • All the bad comments people are leaving dont matter one bit, for one simple reason:

    SHES FREAKIN HOT!!!!

  • i hate how 90% of youtube is just bitter/jaded/ignoant shit heads who just talk shit.

  • personally i think shes an all around talented musician and just a decent acoustic player, tommy emmanuel, michal hedges and phil keaggy are acoustic genniuses

  • anyone that says this isn't music can't play guitar, cause I'm amazed.

  • just because you don't happen to like those ideas? thats like saying a book is only a book if the ideas expressed are pleasant. I don't tend to like overly indulgent musicians who are simply displaying their virtuosity over the feeling they deliver etc. But i don't think Kaki king is particularly guilty of that, sure she may show off a little but i dont think she does it at huge expense. In conclusion, you not liking a piece of music doesnt make it music, at best it makes it bad music.

  • Why must it be delicate? and percussion is not music? funny how percussive instruments are a classification of musical instruments you retard. I actually don't tend to like musicians just showing off their chops (for example most of the time i hate shredders) also if music is the expression (delicate or otherwise) of an idea of feeling (which it doesn't always have to be. then what happens if you want to express a rude and or basic feeling/idea? should those be written out of the definition ...

  • This is merely percussion, not music indeed. I'v realized u'v got no concept of what music really is. Actually, music is the delicate expression of an idea ora feeling. Basicaly, i can't make out what is she trying to say, as there's not a clear musical idea developed. You don't have to make a big efford so as to produce that basic sounds. This performace is simply too rude and basic, i'd recommend to search out what's hidden in the heart and not in what will be produced by awarless movements.

  • Spoken like a true classical musician.

Seriously. Get over classical music. This is music in a different style.

  • That's dumb. Percussion is hitting shit to make or keep rhythm. She's quite obviously plucking strings. Just because she incorporates an ocasional tap on the wood on her guitar doesn't make this only percussion or 'not music.' fucking dumbass.

  • Sorry but thats wrong, theres definitely a strongly percussive element to this music, and she is tapping as well as plucking the strings, percussion is not merely for rhythm (piano is a percussion instrument).

But it doesn't matter anyway Percussion is music just like any other, as is rhythm. Sorry but the whole, music/not music false dichotomy thing really pisses me off.

  • Wrong Quack. Use your ears.

  • Kaki king is amazing

Have you listened to her other songs? not only is she amazing at the "hammer-ons and tapping" technique that you have observed, she is very versatile and can easily "grind out a good song out of just three or four chords"

In my opinion the definition of a super-virtuoso is one that can create amazing works of art with ease, and Kaki King is most definitely one of, or better yet the best of these individuals.

  • half stocked.

  • Observations I have made about "super virtuosos"

    over the last 25 years:

a)99% of them have simply over expanded hammer-ons and or tapping technique.(Stanley Jordan...etc)

b)Their core audience is made up of non-musicians.

c)none of them can function in a band or as songwriter.

    d)yawn.......

  • i could not agree more. can we please see something new and interesting?

  • The greatest musicians I have ever played with are the ones who can grind out a good song out of just three or four chords. Those who over accelerate a single technique always seem to be missing something. I believe some of the most profoundly emotional and sublime moments from art and music are derived from simplicity.

  • You're completely right "craigdamage". How often do you see people saying "Wow, she's using her fingers/nails!" as if that's never been done before.

I also dislike the way she stares at the camera in that arrogant way.

Self indulgent garbage. Maybe she should write songs rather than record technical exercises.

  • amazing!

  • 1:36 LMFAO

    I love her :D

  • Sounds like the soundtrack to August Rush

  • she made played the music

  • This is a great song, I've been constantly thinking about this music after I first heard it. Very inventive, beautiful music.

  • kaki, is king of the guitar.

  • i really really like what she does but i just dont like her style. there are better people out there but props to her for being evan aka august. she did well with that

  • sloppy. every since i've watched Andy M.nothing else compares.

  • well six pistols are more sloppy then toto. No real argument imo

  • wtf?

he's gotten his style from Michael Hedges, Tomy Emmanuel, Preston Reed, Leo Kottke!

  • What the hell are you people talking about? I think she's great!

  • She's a good guitarist, I'll give her that, but she needs to either work on or completely stop the guitar slaps, every time she does it it makes me wince. Some people can do it really well, like Andy Mckee, he uses them wonderfully, but it sounds awful to me when she does it; to me anyway, I've never heard anyone else say anything about it.

  • saw her live at the foo'ies in perth, dissapointed i didnt actualy watch more

  • While I disagree with your opinion I respect your right to say it. Actually I thought it was pretty funny.

  • Man, that is truely hard, I tried it once, as an experiment, damn, its hard! she makes that guitar sing! god, how truely awsome it is to be able to do that. I can only do 1/4 of what she's doing. It is amazing how good she is! She blows my mind!

  • This is great, Im in love...!

  • She is playing to her own track. As you can see and hear her guitar is not miked or plugged in. She is just mimicking her pre-recorded track...just as Rush and all other musicians do in their videos. And for "live" concert CDs and DVDs, Alex goes back into the studio for what they call "post-production" and fixes all the parts he didn't like. And he might do 20 or more takes before he is satisfied. The multiple-take signs in this video were the film director's way of being "artsy."

  • Granted she uses an open tuning but that girl has real talent. Anyone who has dedicated themselves to the guitar will immediately recognize such an amazing skill. I have been in love with her playing style every since I heard her for the first time.

    Rock on Kaki.

  • sorry bout the multiples...internet kinda goofed on me

  • She's using her NAILS as picks! Cool!

  • she must have a relation to Justin King!

Cause she is almost as good as him

  • not really as good as justin but she is good, also no they are not related

  • not really as good as justin but she is good, also no they are not related

  • she must have a relation to Justin King!

Cause she is almost as good as him

  • :54 = sex

  • i know eh, that was so hot

  • omg I was gonna flip out on you ugys for doing that but omg that was hot!

  • ugys? what are you meaning by that

  • i do that alot, poeple say its hot but my lips are just always chaped

  • talent but she just pisses me off for some reason

  • its neat....but kinda boring to listen to

  • 1:57 onwards is such a badass riff. Awesome sound, I don't usually like her stuff, but this is an exception.

  • how is it a ripoff?

she is also playing the same type, you could say they are all ripping each other! (but theyre not)

  • Anyone knows how is her guitar tuned? i know it must be open but¿?...

  • Drop B, i think?!

  • Thanks i want to play this song but i'm too lazy to tune the guitar hehe

  • it's actually CGDGAD

  • So unique. I just love it.

  • Pretty cool.. I can say it's something I can't do.

  • I like this. It's very obscure and like nothing I've really heard before. Yet the video is really out of sync

  • here come the hipsters.

  • ChicagoBass:

...and Justin King borrows from Andy McKee, who borrows from the late great Michael Hedges. If you're looking for "original" music try a different instrument; too many people play guitar for anything truly unique. Besides, A) originality has nothing to do with quality and B) find something, ANYTHING that's truly original. If you want to tear something down because it builds upon what came before, you'll never run out of targets.

  • Yes!!!

All music is derivative and that's a point a lot of people miss out on. I don't see this as a progression or original though. There is no building at all...in fact this is to close to that of what I've heard from a plethora of guitarist. It's ok to have inspiration, but to wear it like a badge is pointless.

  • She's REALLY good in concert. I saw her a few years ago. ^^;

  • original...but not pleasing to my ears...

now justin king, theres some real talent!

  • wierd cause justin's songs are actually less pleasing to my ears than kaki's although both are talented musicians.

  • all the people riping this and saying that its all style and whatever need to listen ..its not there to be a conventional composition its abstract and beautiful that way

  • its aight...

gets stuck in my head a lot. maybe that's a good thing

  • It sounded kinda purple to me...

  • well pinks and mauves and purples

  • This song is really fresh. The fact that it's called "Playing with Pink Noise" really fits with all the different emotions.

  • Unless you are high, colors and sounds don't mix well ;-)

  • what? You are totally wrong. you obviously know nothing about music and how the two things have affected composers throughout history.

  • i love the music and it does sound pink! I had a long chat with her once and she told me her first album to her sounded green, but they put a red cover on the album, wich pissed her off! We had a strange agreement that certain chords had certain colours and she agreed with me with each one i said after she dissagreed with this guy about what colour the D chord was. He said it was yellow but she was like: 'No man its blue', i said yeah, G's yellow, A's red and she WINKED AT ME in agreement!

  • i would have loved to be there man haha

but she said in an interview that this song was more like blue..

by the way.. ehre did you met her?

  • In London ;-)

  • awesome!!

now im jealous of you because i also want to go to london xD well more like Manchester..(old trafford)

  • wow! and she beautiful.

  • This is really innovative and cool. I enjoyed it.

  • Damn, that's cool...

  • Incredibly talented but definitely too repetitive for me (but that's my humble subjective opinion) By the way, another humble subjective opinion : That girl is sooo cute^^

  • itz like having a orgasm

  • I love to see Kaki playing the guitar, and she does a good job playing it. And I have to say, she looks great. Love her and going to see her live 2-8-08 in Holland.

  • very cool, I love the way she uses harmonics....im a drummer and I would love to drum for someone like this, it would be like a drummers dream come true...

  • she WAS a drummer before she started playing guitar, and preston reed was also her guitar teacher, I think it's cool, very new, she uses weird notes.

  • stupid

just cause they play finger style doesnt mean their like andy mckee

there are many artists who play like this

    andy mckee

    Justin king

    Don Ross

    Micheal Hedges

    etc..

  • noob

  • amazeing player i love her and her music sweet :D

  • Absolutely brilliant, and great attitude...

  • i think it sounds pretty good :)

sounds bit like preston reed or something.

    nice guitar too.

  • i let my friend who happened to be a drummer try my guitar out and that is almost what he played lol

  • I think Kaki was actually a drummer before she took up guitar.

  • that would explain all, she is a bit more advanced thAN HIM THOUGH I HAVE TO SAY.

  • Your mom sucks. Me. Last night.

  • lmao. nice man

  • Your a jackass..

  • You can't stand by a statement that you just disagreed with, and I don't think she should be on tv, but I also don't think that she sounds like shit.

  • talented and prety and refreshing and not in the charts :) ahhhh goodness :)

  • Don Ross is the god if this stuff....but this girl is damn good. I love finger styles.

  • get a higher bridge saddle (in tusk), some elixir 13s nanowebs in brass, and put a hair tie on the first fret to get rid of the second note on the string. thats an old trick i learded from the wootens.
