Perhaps the reason this song seems less "painful" is her faith in Christ and her knowledge that there is nothing she cannot have through Him.

There is no contest between this and the original. Trent Reznor is a genre of his own and this song merely does it justice where most covers do not. I don't think I've ever come across a NiN cover that doesn't sound amazing. This, Johnny Cash, and many others who have done NiN songs not only do them justice, but help to create a whole new genre of amazing. <3

Such a shame is right! This cover loses all the essence and power of the original by Trent Reznor. Flyleaf turned a tearful stripped down song of desperation into a generic chug-chug rock ballad for kids, an absolute disgrace! She did a good job but there is no emotion in her cover. Trent had plenty of emotion in his version which is why I like it better. The guitar parts are better than the piano parts in the original.
