There was a miscommunication it seems which happens between languages. "Mud" actually makes a finer edge as it is composed of worn out and rounded abrasives. When he says rough he is meaning burrs or curled metal. Mud is for refining and therefore not useful for removing burrs which require new grit and fast cutting. Mud is also not important on a 1200 grit synthetic stone (mud is always important on naturals though) and not really useful until the (Awasedo) 5000 grit and above range.
