Hey, this is really nice playing. Good accompaniment registration (no tibias in the left hand, please!), light on the pedal, nice bounc touch on the solo. You get a lot of "air" into your right-hand chords.
@osbornd I just ran across this comment. I knew Jean very well and was a student of Jimmy Boyce. I played at the America on Wheels rink when I was in high school ( on Jimmy's Wurlitzer). Are you still in the area Doug?
Hi Gary What a great rendition of this song you have performed. I have this song on a Doris Day album titled Hooray for Hollywood. Very enjoyable Gary.
Hi HD, firstly I must say you play incredibly well. Love it. An elderly lady just gave me an organ exactly like this. I was wondering how old it is. Thanks, Gary
Once in a blue moon I stumble across a contributor who I enjoy so much that I go through ALL of their videos. That blue moon is back today and brighter than ever! Great playing! Please keep on contributing, I think you have somewhat of a fan club going here!
Thank you! I base the arangement on the version that was performed by the Benny Goodman orchestra in the film "Hollywood Hotel" and was sung by Johnny 'scat' Davis. I think Ethel Merman also did a great rendition of the piece. The "Prestissimo" rendition you suggest would work very well as was demonstrated by the ending theme for the Jack Benny radio show.
Hi, I assume you're in the UK. Came across your video by accident and appreciate your style. Nice harmony and counter harmonies.
I live in Las Vegas and have been playing for about 40 years. I've recently posted a couple of videos that you'll find by typeing in Lowrey Majesty. You'll find Holiday For Strings and Poco Loco. I think you'll like the organ.
This tune is a bit tricky to play correctly. HD does his best to keep the beat going correctly and phased with the melody. Well done. A drum beat can be a great help with this type of tune.
Everytime I need a pick me up, I play this video, such wonderful happy circus music. You have a wonderful show style. Keep those videos coming!!!!!!!!!
First of all.. One word F R E A T !! I know many professional players like former World Champion Jelani E and John Mann but you are so GOOD !! Beside that I DISAGREE on the one remark that this is "just an other hammond organ sounding organ. " It sound pretty much authentic , meaning for an electronic organ that is.. WE WANT MORE !!!!
there good these organs but why do they make them selfs look like a wurlitzer ( theatre organ ) when they dont sound anything like one! and there just hammondy really Nice playing :)
When you look at it very subjectively, the instrument is not in reality an organ in the pure sense that real organs that have a wind chest and pipes. The instrument I play in this video is an electronic synthesizer that is constructed to give an imitation of a theatre pipe organ. It is an imitation of the real thing and in reality, this instrument sounds good in what it is by itself but it does not sound like a real theatre pipe organ.
Can you play There's No Business Like Show Business

this sound...was very popular when I was growing up...but it has fallen out of favor...I would rather here this in public places than rock or rap...

Oh this is marvellous! HFH is a pretty obscure tune these days. Not many people know it or indeed, how to play it (I know I can't!)
A marvellous recording!

Gary,
Thank you so much. You play WONDERFULLY!
I have a Gulbransen Premiere (1973), which I believe is a spin-off of the original Rialto. Mine is in need of some repairs. Yours sounds SO GOOD.
I will be watching more of your performances. Thanks again!

You don't hear it much where I am...it was popular in the 70's...it is a fun instrument to hear...

Well, yeah...that was kinda nice, but can you do it a little faster the next time? Prestissimo!
Just kidding, your rendition is SUPERB! I could almost hear Frances Langford singing in the background. Thanks for sharing.

The organ was marketed as a home theatre organ like the theatre Conns, so they made them look like theatre organs. And the layout is convenient.
