The image of her burning is inaccurate. The x-rays admitted by the blast literally cause the air to combust, so that she would have been incinerated.

1st off, its a movie, second, most of what we see here is as bout as real as it gets. But I believe this was placed in a more "slow motion" She was about a mile or two from the blast site, most of the scene was the town being leveld, The wave finaly reached the park and thats when she finaly turned to skeleton, and then if the dream contuned there might not be a skelton.

but she did in fact incinerated, just more of a slow mortion for the movie.

Well looking fantastic on film, Hollywood never gets the blast right as you noted, but considering this all takes place in about 1/39 millionth of a second & not in slow motion, who will notice the differance if one ever does drop ?.

Only the people outside the intial blast range might see the intial white flash, but if they do, it will be the last thing they ever see, as the intensity of the light will burn out the retinas.
