  • He never should have left the U. Leaving to coach the Browns was actually a step backwards.

  • If Butch would have stayed, they would still be racking up championships. Bet you he wishes he would have stayed now.

  • Liar, liar pants on fire.....keep that 216 cell phone Butch.....although those business calls are mandatory property of the State of NC.....you're at Unc-CHeats....we can hide them!

  • sorry osu fans but you guys didn't win that game. A ref throwing a flag who was not even close to the play at all and even so, threw the flag "after" the game was already called. That ref, by the way, received so many death threats from the bookies in Vegas that he had to move out of his state. By the way, he was a resident of Ohio.

  • man whateverrrr.... This man was a hell of a recruiter. That 2001 team was Butch talent. That team has been dubbed as "the greatest Team" or "one of the greatest". Was I disappointed when he left? yeah but look what he left us. a GOLDMINE. 2 strait national championship appearances winning 1.

  • Just so OSU fans can be well informed, the referees for that championship game vs Miami were suspended. That was a bullcrap interference call. Hell, if McGahee had not blown out his knee, the game wouldve been over before regulation. Period

  • @tedd17 still lying to yourself after all these years? Pathetic.

  • @msj2487 Lying? I did not make up that particular fact. Here is just a bit from an article published after that season.

The legitimacy of Ohio State's BCS title (14-0) could regrettably forever be debated, because of the stooge in the striped shirt. Buckeye fans can celebrate their championship but they will be forced to forever listen to pundits' suggestions that an asterisk, or even a huge question mark, should be placed next to it.

    Not my words.

  • @tedd17 There are plenty of article that say the exact opposite. Why read one article and base your opinion of Ohio State's title off of that? Watch the game again, and you'll see Ohio State beat Miami in 2 OT's again and again. The fact of the matter is, Ohio State outplayed Miami the entire game.

  • @msj2487 mmm going to have to disagree with you on that one, miami was the best team in the country during the 2002 season, and they were the best team in the country during the championship game as well, they just got beat by the refs

  • Not so much

  • I think Butch would still be there if Miami would have quit jerking him around on his contract. He wanted equity to the other football coaches in the state at the time including the buy-out clause. In the end, a man has to protect his family's future.

  • @yungvick100 you have a terrible memory sir. Butch beat one of the worst modern day Ohio State teams during the 1999 season, a team that went 6-6 and did not go to a bowl game. Jim Tressel was hired in 2001 and won the National Championship beating miami during the 2002-2003 season. That is 4 seasons after Butch was able to beat Ohio State.

  • What an idiot. Would have been a legend at miami.

Instead he's just a part of the rat race

  • Even though i kinda hate him for leaving us id still much rather have him over Shannon. He has more fire in him. If we had him during the 2002 Fiesta bowl i know we would have beat OSU WITHOUT, it having to go into OT.

  • ...Anyway, I remember watching that game, and that game started off the way the 2002 Rose Bowl started off. Early on Miami got on to a fast start and OSU looked like Nebreska in the 2002 Rose Bowl.... but then in the second quarter came the turnovers and well... I guess we all know what happened next. Anyway I could care less about Miami, but the Canes were the more talented team in that Fiesta Bowl. tOSU squeked by so many teams in the 2002 season.

  • The 2002 Fiesta Bowl was a very strange game. Miami statistically dominated that game, but you want to know the real reason to why Miami lost that game? Ohio State gave the ball up twice, Miami gave the ball up 5 freaking times. All of OSU's points in regulation in that game came off of UM turnovers.

  • F Ohio St....Sweater wearing sissy boys!

  • haha! UNC wasnt exactly the best spot was it?

  • its 2010 now lol i wonder what hes thinking right now?

  • haha I can only hope he's one of the 4,185 people who have viewed this video.

  • Nah I think Miami still would have lost in '02, that Buckeye team was one of the best in the decade.

  • are you fucking serious man i mean come on at the last few seconds the refs call a fucking pass interference, Ohio state is a bunch of fucking pussy's!!

  • But let's face it, Ohio State dominated them pretty much the entire game, Miami was the one who had to kick it into OT. Not to mention that, that pass interference call has been reviewed 1000's of times and has been called one of the best calls in sports history. The dude blatantly held Gamble while the ball was in the air and never looked back at the ball, thats pass interference. I can't believe Miami fans still whine about that call.

  • OSU's DL more or less handled our OL and with immobile Dorsey back there, they got away with it.

But our D dominated OSU's pathetic offense.

The only reason people think OSU dominated that game was because no one expected their offense to do anything.

Plus, McGahee's injury and Coker's decisions NOT to use Gore, basically nullified the run-game. So the DL could pin their ears back.

All that and they still had to cheat to win.

    OSU got lucky.

  • I think it's hilarious you use the words "they still had to cheat to win," haha how did they ever cheat in that game? Not to mention McGahee had very little success running the ball for the 3 quarters he was in the game, his injury had very little effect on the outcome.

Also, Miami's D was good, but not great at stopping Ohio State, don't forget that Craig Krenzel had 60 yards rushing, the leading rusher in the game, & Ohio State converted a 4th and 14 in OT against that amazing Miami defense.

  • 60 rushing yards for a QB and how manny passing yards did he have??

Do you really know wtf you're talking about? The more you talk the less it seems you do. Did you even see the game?

  • You do realize I referenced that fact because you were saying that Miamis D was amazing, well if they were so amazing how did they give up 60 yards RUSHING to a QB? You act like thats no big deal & why does it matter how many passing yards he had? Ohio State made Miami play their game, which is run, run, run.

And yes I do know exactly what I'm talking about, I offer objective and well thought out responses, while you simply insult me and make dumb statements like "Ohio State cheated," pathetic.

  • Like I said, you don't know wtf you're talking about. You probably saw that one game and think you know something about the U and that season in particular.

Listen clueless, the writing was on the wall that the team was softer and less focused by the 3rd game of the season.

As I said before, Cokerization was in full effect.

    Thanks for the vid though.

  • Saying they were soft by the 3rd game of the season is just another excuse to come up with for why they lost that game. First, it's that it wasn't Ohio State who beat them it was a bullshit penalty flag, now it's not that Ohio State beat them it's because Larry Coker couldn't coach or control them after the 3rd game of the season... face the facts, Miami lost the game and would have lost no matter what, they just plain got beat.

  • Clearly you didn't see the games nor do you understand the difference between making excuses and stating facts.

And you're definitely clueless and lame if you think losing in double OT on a ref's late call that is still talked about as one of the worst calls EVER, is "just plain getting beat".

You're a clueless douche but thanks for the video of lying ass Butch.

  • You're maybe the biggest dumbass I've ever argued with, but I'll continue since you seem to want to... you first state that Miami would have crushed Ohio State, but then you pull back stating they only lost because they got "soft" after the 3rd game of the season, whatever that's an EXCUSE, definitely not a fact!!

Also, if you keep up with sports even just a LITTLE bit you would have known that the PI call has since been reviewed again and again and called one of the best calls of all time!

  • And again you constantly miss my points because your so small-minded, but miami just got plain beat because they were 12 point favorites going into the game, but were losing at halftime to Ohio State by 14, and trailed continuously until they could tie it back up with only a minute or so left. Then in both OT's they got worked, they gave up a 4th and 14 to Ohio State in the 1st OT, Dorsey got smashed in the 2nd, and miami couldn't score a TD from the 1 yard line for 4 straight plays in a row!!

  • No actually you are the pea-brain. My very first point was about OSU's DL. Did you read that or did you just skim it??

Like I said, you don't know anything about that team or that season but you have watched the OSU game a few times it seems. lol

    Good for you.

  • @msj2487 actually the call is also ranked in the top 5 for worst calls in a game.Either way the game should have never been that close...Who knows...Magahee were still in the 4th my bet the Canes would have pulled it out in the end.Hey thats how it goes.

  • Like I said, you watched one game and think you know WHY the team played the way they played.

I said they would've crushed OSU IF BUTCH HAD STAYED.

Come on dumbo, don't mush my words.

And the point was clear how much softer and lax they were compared to the 2001 edition by the 3rd game of the season. The last few games of the season, esp. the VT and Pitt games showed just how soft they were.

Playing like that against that OSU D was a recipe for disaster. When did I NOT state this?

  • Well Butch didn't stay so I don't see exactly how you can make an unsubstantiated claim like that. Most likely, the same result would have happened so get over it, but I digress.

  • As I've said, you don't know shyt about the subject other than that one game.

    Carry on...

  • Nah, if Butch had stayed we'd have smashed that Buckeye squad, even as talented as they were on defense.

Recall the way the 2002 team was getting softer and softer every game after the UF beatdown.

Cokerizing was already in full effect.

  • If he had been telling the truth and stayed, we would have had national championships in 2000, 2001, and 2002 at the very least.

  • Butch hasn't done so well at UNC. His third year and they fell flat this year. Makes you wonder who the true architect of those Miami teams were, or at the least how much Pete Garcia played a role in building that team.

  • butch is a fuckin liar who ducked out the back door for some quick cash at the last minute, plain and simple. Then he couldn't cut it as a pro coach so he had to come back to the college game.

  • i would still take butch davis back anyday.BIG IF shannon wasn't coach

  • I wish he would've stayed because the 2001 team and the 2002 team, Butch recruited all those players and once larry coker took over and all BD's recruits left...You see the after effects..a once elite program in shambles

  • LIAR!!!!!!!

  • Nice good catch, I can't believe I actually put Orange Bowl to begin with!

  • butch davis es un tremendo mentiroso........LIAR LIAR PANTS ON FIRE..........ONE LIEINGF SUMBITCH......NICK SABAN AND BUTCH DAVIS ARE LIEING SUMBITCHES

  • that would be the 2001 Sugar Bowl

    Miami: 11-1

    Florida 10-3

  • He and Nick Saban must hang out.

  • With Bobby Petrino too

  • WISH IT WERE TRUE.
