  • @sinister066

Hello ! I have the dvd which is " BC live at Dingwalls Eclectic . I bought it on the Amazon site 3 years ago . It was shipped from the Netherlands ..it took several weeks before i got it ! That 's why it is very precious . Tell me if you can't find it , maybe i can help you :)

  • @isabellle87 hi isabelle greetings from germany.i have the cd "eclectic"its just great.

  • @runrigm7 thanks for the greetings :) I agree with you this cd is awesome !!! Hugs from France !..

  • Long time BC-fan, just now browsing the tube. Had no idea BC did so much covers, but i must say i'm impressed, Stu could easily stand in for Neil, Bruce, Levon and most other great americana-singers. Some covers though might be a little to close to the originals, miss the signature dual guitars.

  • 2 year after my birth , allway love that song.

  • OK, Isabelle, and anyone aelse who knows, straigthen me out here. First, I love Big Country and Stuart.'s voice and his brogue. But I once heard that he thought all American music was crap. Personally I thought he didn't understand it, now here he is singing it, and he moved to Nashville. What was the real story?

  • @escrime11 2 possible answers for you I see.

    1) the song was recorded first in 1969....maybe Stuart was referring to the 1990s or some other decade?

    2) ironically, the song was written by a Canadian :)

  • Is there any cover that these guys can't do? Always liked this song as my ancestors were poor dirt farmers in Appalachia and I had a great-great grandfather who was a Confederate veteran.

  • so who are you??

  • the civil war was much complicated than people realize. their were hundreds of different factions involved and some of the allegiances were bizarre to the people who were not there,us!. people from all over the UK and Europe were involved fighting under every banner imaginable. some company's consisted of entire family's who drew their inspirations from far and wide. great song by a great underrated singer who's country folk played a part in that conflict.

  • The Famous Rebel Yell comes from the Scots highland charge, so read history, he's been their generations before, and he knows enough about it.even the confederate flag is nearly St. Andrews cross..see Runrig Loch Lomond oh brother

  • no body can sing this song because no one can feel it... this song take feeling... there really was a train from danville to richmond, richmond really was destroyed and it really was a hard life for our grand parents.... so we need a singer that can feel it... not much talent is needed but feeling is what is required.

  • Astonishing - I never realised the gang covered this classic - what a wonderful tribute to Stuart and I'll now have to seek out the entire session [well done and ta isabellle87].

  • i like this version, i think BC always bring something else in when they cover..always liked the song. .never heard a bad cover of it. .

  • One of my all time favourite songs sung by my all time favourite singer. Thank you

  • I used to have one of those old record players that looked like a suitcase, i never dreamed that BC would choose to cover the night they drove old dixie down i'm f---ing speechless !!!!!

  • i've always thought their only hits is "in a big country" until i saw & heard all there shows. their OOHHH-SOOOMMEEE.. wish stuart still here to entertain us more... hats off 4 u stuart...

  • i love this song !!! gets in your head and you and up humming it all day. Great band...they never got their due while stuart was alive, maybe now with vids like this they will.

  • Best version ever!

  • how cool is that !! This band never ceases to amaze me. Great stuff !! Keep the home fires burning Big Country's a-turnin'

  • Possibly the Band - Woodstock era - giving away my age here;-)

  • Was this a Woody Guthrie, or Arlo Guthrie original, I know it was covered by Joan Baez & Bob Dillon. Like this version though - Stuart's voice definately does it justice!

  • Robbie Robertson, but you probably know now

  • This is fantastic--thanks so much, Isabelle!

Cheers.

  • This song really cheers me up!

    Thanks for posting Isabelle! =D

  • "Virgil Caine is my name and I drove on the Danville train

Til Stonewall's cavalery came and tore up the tracks again...."

This song was written by written by Robbie Robertson. And "Stonewall" is the confederate general Jackson...

Merci Isa (même si j'ai un moment hésité à te la piquer!).

And now SLING IT ! Please... Or I do it !

  • The original lyrics are "Stoneman's" cavalry, not Sherman or Stonewall.

  • BC says Sherman,

Joan Baez says : 'til so much cavalry came and tore up the tracks again

  • Yep, but they are wrong. The original is "Stoneman". He was the Union Cav officer harrassing the trains going into Richmond.

    BC does a great job!!
