The steel cable is not a good idea. A thief with a knife would not know that he can't cut through it until he tries. I would not want someone holding a knife next to me and having trouble. My safety is more important than my equipment.
Mark just bought a Sun Sniper Steel. I was always concerned about someone cutting my camera strap, so always wrapped the strap around my hand and held the camera. Thanks for the review.
I have not used a strap other than the one regular with the camera itself but makes sense to not carry the camera on the "usual" position...thanks mark....O
Rapid sport version is not for extreme sports... that's a bit silly really. The purpose of the loop under the arm is primarily to keep the strap and camera more secure. For example, if you lean forward (very useful, most people involve leaning in their daily routine) a regular shoulder strap will swing down in front. I suppose it would, but it's not to keep it from falling off upside down. (Should you be upside down, the camera on the strap would still move quite a ways...)
I have a BlackRapid (the woman's version) and the SunSniper. I like both BUT you have to be very careful with the connector. The connector can loosen just from the camera banging against your hip. Sunsniper does have connector that allows the camera to swivel which I really like. What ever you do, DO NOT use your tripod ar plate unless you have modified the pin. I learned the hard way and the D-Ring completely went flying. Fortunately, I had crafted a "safety strap" so that camera was safe..
Black rapid is awesome. Best thing I ever bought for my camera. The sun sniper looks cool as well. That style is just so much more comfortable than the stock style straps. As far as being expensive? I guess you have to figure out how much comfort is worth. After walking around NY all day with my stock strap I would of paid 200 bucks for the black rapid!!
I've owned several different straps made by many manufacturers over the years and just recently bought the Black Rapid version. I absolutely LOVE the freedom of movement it provides while also being built like a tank. I shoot with a heavy body, grip, pro glass and have never doubted that I could let the strap do it's job and let me concentrate on mine.
Just started using the RS-7 from BlackRapid and I love it. I agree with the other comment , the RS-5 is a bit too bulky. Something to consider, BR offers a number of "Mods" that allow you to add storage components for cell phones, memory cards...
That's not really what the stops are for. They are to lock the camera in place. You really need the Joey strap that comes with the sport model for them to be fully effective though. They can be purchased separately. This is my favorite feature of all of them.
Personally, I think all the pockets in the RS -5 are a little un-needed I just carry my wallet in the front pocket of my pants and thats generally secure enough.
RS-4 is what I would recommend other then the RS-5!

If the sniper does not have the stops...is there something that you can add to not have the camera sling arouind

The steel cable will break a knife blade? I'll believe it when I see it.

Mark I keep reading that the BlackRapid RS-5 FastenR-2 keep loosening over time, have you had that issue?

Hi Mark, if we are hanging the camera with a heavy lens on these straps, will that be a problem for camera body at lens mounting place?
