Those of you complaining about gloves, think how many factory workers touched the plastic when manufacturing the gloves and I am sure the gloves are not sterilized, not to mention the dirty box that the gloves sit in!
A 2 year old, 115lb. Jared Fogle remembers watching this commercial in 1979 from his Indianapolis home in between clandestine trips to the cookie jar.
That damn U-cut! I do not miss that. Subway apparently switched to hinge cuts to compete with Blimpie and obviously began toasting to compete with Quizno's. Both strategies obviously worked. I do miss Blimpie in L.A. however.
Love that jingle. Wasn't this commercial up at better quality elsewhere on YouTube?
Note the scene of the guy putting lettuce and tomatoes on the sandwich with his bare hands. Isnt allowed today in a subway. Now they use plastic gloves.
@DUDEABIDES001 See, that's the thing. You could never trust or know if the employee washed their hands. But with cellophane gloves, it takes out the guesswork.
@swruiz QQ someone's clean washed hands touched my food! WahhH!!!!! Idiot. Germaphobes lik you are complete imbeciles, I bet you don't even wash your hands before you eat and yet you bitch about the person touching your food with their clean washed hands.
Hard to believe they ever once had commercials like this, and were probably just only in Connecticut. (rather than the super mega sub sandwich chain, they are today)
@Popteart Because back in the '70s/'80s, it didn't matter. But up until around 1994, there became issues concerning cross-contamination between the handling of the food and the cash register; so the germaphobe liberals bitched and complained to the USFDA and State Health Department and convinced them to make it mandatory for all Subways employees to wear gloves and change into a new pair after finishing the sandwich and handling the money. But, yeah, we've definitely come a long way.
Stop complaining about gloves it's not like there clean too.

@swruiz its scientifically proven that assembling food w/o latex gloves is more sanitary, as long as they wash before and asfter
