Nannynicky..? For your information. "A momentary lapse of reason" was NOT made without Richard Wright. c",) Read on the cover of your lp or cd. But you're right. It's a good album.
pink floyd did not die with rick. rick was a big part of the group but we all know that a momentary lapse of reason was made without rick and it sounds great. pink floyd goes on as long as dave remains and gives us some great tunes to enjoy. but i will say with a sad heart that rick was what got my attension long before i really new pink floyd. his cords on shine on took me when i was only about 6. and then the organ work on the post waters stuff melted my young heart. still does to this day.
pink floyd were the 'sum of the parts'...... each player had a distinct playing style!!!! rick's keyboard style went on to influence a generation of players, he could rip sh*t up on a hammond or lull you, his piano playing was exquisite and cool........ all the members of the floyd had something magnificent to contribute, hence why so many people are obsessive about them!!!!
Well considering your obvious prejudice regarding these "Levels" of creativity and worth concerning the members of Pink Floyd I also do not wish to discuss the matter with you any further.
Saw a posting where after Rick passed on, Carin could take the chair. He said he did his job, Rick did his and no one can just go do his job, Rick owned his space. True or false I agree
There is no such thing as a ONE person, being Pink Floyd... It should be obvious to everyone knowing the music and essence of PF, that Pink Floyd WAS, Syd (the early years), David, Roger, Richard and Nick. They ALL contributet in creating Pink Floyd... Evey one of them, WAS Pink Floyd... even Nick, who may not have had as much influence as the rest of the them, did however contribute aswell... The vibe and essence in the music, came from all of them with no exception.. The coolest guys ever <3
@angie4josh .. I know he was one of the founders, however he didn't have as much influence on composing the music as the other guys had .. In the early years the driving forces was Waters, Syd and Rick and in '68 David replaced Syd .. Like I said ( a year ago lol ) every single member were Pink Floyd .. but you cannot say that if Nick hadn't been, "there would be no band at all" .. He didn't have THAT much importance ..
@nishemi Well excuse you. Do you even realize he is one of the best time keepers aside from Buddy Rich and Steve Gadd? His sound is as distinct as the rest of the band for alot of reasons for example, reverse crashes, tape splicing drum fills not to mention his unique use of gongs and other various percussive instruments.
Nick Mason was a fucking visionary and had just as much influence on the direction of the band as Syd Roger Richard and David.
@angie4josh .. I don't know why you insist on this pointing out Nicks talents, I think it's obvious to anyone who have ever listened to their music. I'm very much aware of this bands almost "otherworldly" talent, from all members, but even among these guys, there are "levels" for each one, so to speak. I have listened to PF from the beginning first with Syd and later with David. PF's music / lyrics has been the "frame" around my youth. I do NOT wish to discuss Pink Floyd with you ..
No he didn't. All of them together made it what it was... if they hadn't stumbled upon each other there's a very real possibility they'd be retiring from entirely different careers right about now.
Rick - not only could take me into a completely different state of mind - he was a fox. I will never again be able to see the real Pink Floyd and that breaks my heart. I hope the man had as much beauty in his life as he gave the rest of us. Rick Rocked! And gave me peace at the same time. A true artist lives on.............
the members past and present of floyd, all human. but floyd is greater then it's individual members. floyd survives 4ever. thanx to da hard work of rick, dave, nick, roge and many more who have helped along the way like thier old maneger who died a few years back, micheal kemen and more, floyd lives beyond it's creaters. something i pass 2 my twins and hope they pass 2 their kids. real music. real songs.
Rest in Peace... you made my world a better place with your music. Thanks for being on this planet and creating such passion and joy! You will be missed and loved always!
*If* it happened, and to be honest I don't think it will, then I suspect Jon Carin would play Rick's parts. He was used by Roger Waters on his In The Flesh tour, and by the remaining Floyd on their Momentary Lapse and Division Bell tours, as well as Gilmour's latest tour. He is a proficient pianist/ keyboard player.
Jon Carin, he never was drawn into all the quibbles when Roger left. He sat quietly beside the Master for all those years, and became a highly competent pianoist. But I don't know that he has the complexity, depth, and raw creative soul that Rick has/had. I know I'm not alone in missing his genius.
THERE RESTS IN PEACE DARLING WRIGHT You were one of the musicians mas influential and you were entering the history of the world music and thank you for having given me the privilege of listening to yourself when you were in life, in this precious(beautiful) band PINK FLOYD THANK YOU!!!!!!! atte Rodrigo Omar
This and Cat Cruise have always been my favorite tracks from Mediterranean C. I'm not ashamedto say that, to this day, the soulfull energy that eminates from just the sax and keys in the last few bars here continue to send chills up my spine and bring tears to my eys.
Rick, you were one of my biggest musical influences back in the late 60s - early 70s.
A loss beyond words! Gilmour and Waters should have been more supportive.... especially after Syd's problems. Under appreciated... Thanks for the treasures!
i always dreaded a day like this would come.my thoughts go out to ricks family and friends and especially pink floyd, david gilmour, roger waters, and nick mason. rick was an inspiration to many. His voice was so pure, so blending and beautiful that he is surely going to be missed. thankyou you rick for every mind blowing feeling that i ever had, listening to your majestic playng! we love you rick, enjoy heaven my man! thumbs way up high for you! see you on the dark side of the moon!
What disappointing news this is. At least, Rick had the opportunity to perform with Floyd one last time at Live 8. He was the soul of the band. Without him, Floyd might never had existed. He will surely be missed.
