people will always comparing no matter how big the differences are.. its a habit.. however, u were right at one point.. what u should find is ur own identity.. as long as its there people can notice this one is from pixar and the other one is from dreamworks (as an example)..

and i assume u want to rename the robot as Mike or Hussein then? if this is the type of identity that they want to show then y not? simple n cute..

My 2cents :

1. Try to breakaway/detach as much as you can from the previous works/endeavors in terms of character design/expression. I have not seen how these character will be animated but try something different. People will start comparing once it get too similar.

2. Try not to stereotyped those character name simply by using their features (BoBot for Robot) avoid being to cliche.
