horseback riding is a sport,many say its not but it is..i mean we put our LIFE on the line to do what we love and for onther sports,well, your probly looking forward to a cut hand or something then you shake it off and say "no biggie"...we do the same when we fall BUT when we get hurt BAD.....it may be the end of horseback riding for them or worse yet, just about anything.

oh and btw i love this video i rode for 2 1/2 yrs and unfortunately i had to stop because of the economy but i still love horses and i HATE when people tell me it's just a hobby not a sport soo thanks :)
Riding also takes an amazing amount of muscle. Sure...many people can stay on the horse at the w/t/c or even gallop...does that mean they are truely "riding"? No. They are bouncing around on the horse's back causing the horse pain, and the rider to be at more of a risk to fall. To actually "ride" you must use the muscles in your body to properly ride and keep from flailing around on the horse's back.

I know this kid at school who wouldn't shut up about how riding was soooo easy, so I took him to my old riding stable. He jumped on an Arab stallion, lying to my old teacher that he could jump. And when she told him to show her his stuff, he kicked Rocky. NEVER kick Rocky. In moments, he was off at a canter and flew off. He was okay, but cried. He CRIED! I galloped before by accident and didn't even let out a whimper! And he thought HE was tough with all his football junk! What a baby!

hey don't feel bad, my friend was tryin to mount the horse, she had a mounting block and everything and a saddle, she had her foot in the stirrup, but she ended up going over the horse, then she rode my friends horse bareback, and he went under the rope, so she got pushed off.
ive had a concussion this year from falling off a horse, i know how hard it is, i just want to say, thank you to all of the other equeatrians who put their life on the line when they climb into that saddle, and horse back riding is a sport, a team sport, two hearts, two minds, and two bodies working and winning, and sometimes falling, together, and when ur partner is gone, u mourn, horses, and people, in perfect harmony, its a sport. a thrilling, and sometimes tragic sport, but a sport.

I agree with u. It is a sport, but people should tread the horses still fair and as an animal... not like a soccer ball. If it's broken i buy a new one, and if i don't want it anymore i'll just stop taking care of it....those animals just don't deserve to be treaded like that...

OMG i totally agree. i just started english lessons on monday after getting used to western. it is so painfull. my muscles hurt. but i love ellie. i got to ride her bareback today. i luv it, but i almost fell of while dismounting, i know im pittiful!
Look I ride horses and when anyone says it`s not a sport I punch em and tell them to go to youtube and waicht this even teachers dut I usually get in trouple but what ever it`s for horses I`d do any thing.
this video made me cry so much, i was jumping a horse in a small show, and we went to a jump that i thought we would clear, we did but when she landed she twisted her front right leg and broke it, she was my favorite horse, if it wasnt for her i would not be riding today, i did my first canter on her, my first jump on her. I will always love and remember her. i love the vid too.

Another thing I also tell people is that scientists have proved that in the wild a horse would go around something before jumping it, so it's like without us if you put them in an open arena with jumps they would just go around them!!
Yeah but horses have been domesticated for years, and they have been bred to jump. It is in their blood now. That is why we have so many breeds. Because people breed qualities into certain breeds.
ok... well how many horses do you know that would free jump without anyone encouraging them or standing there with a lunge whip, or without anything next to the jumps so they can go around them?
I do. Of course they have to be taught what to do but after a few sessions they know what to do and will happily jump by themselves. I personally know three horses that will jump like that.

Rider's and horses work TOGETHER in harmony. It is a loving sport, and passion. I've had many people make fun of me because "I don't do a sport" I ride, Horse style. You would think that would be enough for people, but no, it has to football, softball, soccer... Horse Riding IS a sport. Good Luck Equestrians!

What people don't know is that the horses at trail riding places have been taught not to have a brain of their own. they just follow the horse in front.

you can't call that ignorance when you won't clarify it, dumbshit. and yes, plenty of people have died playing Soccer: Mikos Feher, Marc-Vivien Foe, Samuel Okwaraji, Marcio dos Santos, and Antonio Puerta, to name a few. As far as American football goes, Chris Stewart died his senior year of high school, on the field, Ryan Owens, another HS player, died at practice his Junior season, Vince Bernardo died his freshman year at Ship. U in Pennsylvania. And there are a lot more where to go with it.
yeah but how many of them died when playing the sport? I mean I remember hearing about one of those football guys and he didn't die because he was hit by another player or anything. This is so true!! We, at least I, keep doing this because we love horses en we love this sport!! I know it can be very risky but if I fall down together with my horse, I immediatly think: O my god! is my horse ok?? instead of thinking about myself in first place.. I think this explains quite well that I really love the horses and the sport!! I really have respect for those like Mrs. Michaels-Beerbaum or mr. Skelton who jumps a awesome six bar combination!!
Thanks! So do I. I always wonder where my horse has run off to before I worry about myself. Apart from one time I blacked out so I wasn't worrying about anything lol. Nick Skelton is amazing. He had a very nasty accident a while ago and he was told he would never walk again, let alone ride. Now look at him! Competing in the Olympics again. I think that shows true dedication and detrmination!

I was cantering him in a field with two other people and the person in front of me had a jacket tied round their waist. We were going quite fast and so it just flew off and landed right in front of my pony. He of course wasn't expecting a jacket to come flying at him and spooked quite violently. I was just thrown over is shoulder and all I remember was lying on the floor watching him rear. I thought he was about to come down on my and I just went. I wasn't injured though, amazingly.

I am a horse lover and I totally agree and everything. But the thing where you said people don't get killed in football, is wrong, there was a local kid last year that died playing football, he got hit really badly. So If I were you I'd say Tennis or something else. But other than that great video!

i hate it when people say it is not a sport, my whole family basically think i am a disgrace because i ride, your right people dont get killed from football, not like you do in horse riding, i had my best friend almost killed she is in a wheelchair for the rest of her life, just from jumping 3foot people dont get it. . .

omg i HATE wen people say that its not a sport and u dont work hard and all u do is sit there and the horse does all the work!! it gets me so mad!! i am a rider and my friend does cheerleading and shes like riding isnt as hard as cheerleading and im thinking all u do is cheer and it distracts the team!! U DONT JUST SIT THERE!! id like to see the ppl who think its easy to get on a horse and do everything in that video!!

this video made me cry so much, i was jumping a horse in a small show, and we went to a jump that i thought we would clear, we did but when she landed she twisted her front right leg and broke it, she was my favorite horse, if it wasnt for her i would not be riding today, i did my first canter on her, my first jump on her. I will always love and remember her. i love the vid too.

Another thing I also tell people is that scientists have proved that in the wild a horse would go around something before jumping it, so it's like without us if you put them in an open arena with jumps they would just go around them!!

Yeah but horses have been domesticated for years, and they have been bred to jump. It is in their blood now. That is why we have so many breeds. Because people breed qualities into certain breeds.

I do. Of course they have to be taught what to do but after a few sessions they know what to do and will happily jump by themselves. I personally know three horses that will jump like that.

i ride, but i have to disagree with peope dont get killed in football.
anything is possiable.
what happens if they break their neck in some place it can kill you, or get some massive head injury, just cause they wear protective equipment doesn't mean that they cant get hurt really bad, or even killed.
We ride, it is a sport to some, to others its not.
im sure there is a sport out there that everyone thinks shouldn't be one.

We all know that stuff like this happens. I have nothing agaisnt any other horse activity accept horse racing. Thats where all the horses get injurerd, so they die. I agree with this video, but honestly, I think it was over dramatic. I am REALLY not trying to be mean.. This is super sad, people die, horses die, injurys... = ( OMG !! Racing is the worst

this video is amzing the best one i have seen by far. us equestrians proove everyday that horseback riding is a real sport!!!! We risk getting killed everytime we tack up and ride. So all those ppl who dont think its a sport you can go have a near death experience on a 1000 pound animal then see how it feels!!!!!

Rider's and horses work TOGETHER in harmony. It is a loving sport, and passion. I've had many people make fun of me because "I don't do a sport" I ride, Horse style. You would think that would be enough for people, but no, it has to football, softball, soccer... Horse Riding IS a sport. Good Luck Equestrians!

What people don't know is that the horses at trail riding places have been taught not to have a brain of their own. they just follow the horse in front.

In a UK report by JR Silver for both UK and US statistics regarding spinal injuries while riding, he found that:
1. Horseback riding "is a dangerous recreation" where 1/3 of the accidents result in head injuries.
2. In 10 States in the US there were over 200 DEATHS per year.
3. Riding horses is 20 times more dangerous than riding a motorcycle based on the hours riding.
4. You are 20 times more likely to be injured if you are jumping vs. leisurely riding.

Here's some of the shocking numbers:
1. There were over 102,000 non-fatal horse injuries between 2001-2003 in the US.

you can't call that ignorance when you won't clarify it, dumbshit. and yes, plenty of people have died playing Soccer: Mikos Feher, Marc-Vivien Foe, Samuel Okwaraji, Marcio dos Santos, and Antonio Puerta, to name a few. As far as American football goes, Chris Stewart died his senior year of high school, on the field, Ryan Owens, another HS player, died at practice his Junior season, Vince Bernardo died his freshman year at Ship. U in Pennsylvania. And there are a lot more where to go with it.

yeah but how many of them died when playing the sport? I mean I remember hearing about one of those football guys and he didn't die because he was hit by another player or anything. And besides, getting tackled by another person feels a hell of a lot better than getting kicked, rolled onto, stepped on, ect. by an animal that normally weighs 1,100 - 1,500 pounds

This is so true!! We, at least I, keep doing this because we love horses en we love this sport!! I know it can be very risky but if I fall down together with my horse, I immediatly think: O my god! is my horse ok?? instead of thinking about myself in first place.. I think this explains quite well that I really love the horses and the sport!! I really have respect for those like Mrs. Michaels-Beerbaum or mr. Skelton who jumps a awesome six bar combination!!

Thanks! So do I. I always wonder where my horse has run off to before I worry about myself. Apart from one time I blacked out so I wasn't worrying about anything lol. Nick Skelton is amazing. He had a very nasty accident a while ago and he was told he would never walk again, let alone ride. Now look at him! Competing in the Olympics again. I think that shows true dedication and detrmination!

I was cantering him in a field with two other people and the person in front of me had a jacket tied round their waist. We were going quite fast and so it just flew off and landed right in front of my pony. He of course wasn't expecting a jacket to come flying at him and spooked quite violently. I was just thrown over is shoulder and all I remember was lying on the floor watching him rear. I thought he was about to come down on my and I just went. I wasn't injured though, amazingly.
