This song reminds me of a time before Christmas became synonymous with crass materialism, black fridays, cyper mondays and the rest on the modern baggage..
@Poodlepups I thought all my life the line was "and a worn out scrap of his faithful dog". As a child I had no idea what it meant, but it made me sad. I guess I just thought it was some rememberence of his dog, like maybe a toy or something. Now I know he said "strap", not "scrap" so it makes more sense now. Still rather sad.
Thank you for posting this song my brothers and sisters and I watched the movie every Christmas. This is the first Christmas without my brother and sister this song makes it a little easier. THANK YOU
What a great find! I had come across the names of Helen Hayes & Loretta Young in connection with the story, but never Bing Crosby, although his reading of The Small One was known to me. Fans of Charles Tazewell(author of the original 1946 book, The Littlest Angel) may be interested to know his Littlest Snowman can also be found here on Youtube, incorporated under the title, Christmas Fairy Tale.
@janeann00 I am now 30 and my father always played this at xmas. I always waited to hear this song but every time I did, I broke down and cried. To this day, this song still brings a few tears to the surface. A brilliant song.
@beaso24 I didn't realize I could comment back on this thing. I think that is sweet. I do love this song and listen to it all throughout the year. It brings back good memories. :))
thank you for posting this song...it is one of, if not my most favorite christmas song...i always cry whenever i hear this...happy christmas and peace to all...
Thank you so much for posting this special song that I have been searching for.
It brings back such fond memories of my childhood Christmases, when the animated version of this story was shown each year and our family all watched it together.
Blessings on the posting of this song...the true meaning of giving from the heart and the innocence of a childs heart! Being Native American these are the true gifts of love from a Child of Earth Mother up to Sky Father. The GREAT GHOST SPIRIT..Our *TRINITY*!
& totally agrees with dyslexicjim and his gf's term *arrested development*...Count ME & MINE in on the choice not to *evolve* into adults and their *issues*.
Peace & Love ALL CREATION each moment of Your Life!
I used to have a girlfriend that frequently used the term, "arrested development."
My mom loved this song - back in 1968.
In 2003 I heard this song again - for the first time in decades, and told my girlfriend - If refusing to become a corrupt adult is "arrested development," count me in....

This is the very first time I ever heard this song, and now I'm so misty-eyed! Bing Crosby HIMSELF was a wonderful find! I wish he had NEVER died!
